Oh, and these are seriously some of the nicest bathrooms anywhere - you'll actually want to sit and stay (no squat and pray here!). It's nice enough that I could actually see a wedding reception here, and I'm sure guests would oooh and ahhh.

The staff was all amazing, very friendly and communicative! Hazel our bartender, was wonderful and made tasty beverages all evening! I selected 4 appetizers, from a list of many, they were all great! (*they even worked with me to offer some Vegan options for my friends who are, so they had tasty apps as well!) I added the Photo Booth which was a great addition, we all had so much fun all night with it! There recommendation on DJ's were wonderful, I worked with Danny & so should you! The vibes were perfect all night! My point of contact was mainly Brittany to help plan my event, who was so wonderful! She was communicative & timely, when responding! They allowed me come in a few times to see the space & visualize which I appreciated so much! I definitely had a vision and the space and their staff helped me bring it to life! I would definitely recommend using this space for a birthday party/holiday celbration!!! I hope to have reasons in the future to be back and work with them all again!

Planning a wedding is stressful. Planning a wedding during a pandemic is almost impossible…read more When our 2020 wedding had to be postponed a year due to Covid-19, we were left with ALL of the feelings. We very easily could have been defeated by the situation, but the staff at Opal 28 always made us feel supported and positive that our event would be amazing! Even though people were working remotely and, I'm sure, dealing with their own stresses, there was never a lapse in time for communication and answers to any and all of my questions that came up over that year. Often times, my questions were met with so many thoughtful options and possibilities that it was clear the Opal 28 staff was a trusted team with a ton of experience! On the big day, the staff took all of the decorating and arranging into their own capable hands and off of mine and the venue looked even better than we imagined! I love the flow of the space, giving guests different areas to visit in both indoors and out. The food was impeccable and I should mention that in the time between booking the venue and having our wedding, we had gone totally vegan and wanted a plant-based menu. The chef came up with an entire list of possibilities and everyone was blown away that it was a totally vegan menu. Having the available apartments upstairs was also a huge help as we were able to add one for the night to use as a staging and changing area and place to store extra needed items. I can never thank the staff of Opal 28 enough for their care and professionalism and ability to keep everything positive and calm in the face of so many unknowns. I highly recommend this venue for any and all festivities and look forward to visiting again!

FIVE GREAT BIG STARS for this wonderful neighborhood experience in the Jade District of Portland. I…read moreknow, I know... Jade District is a fancy name for an area that sometimes gets a bad rap. A lot of unsavory things happen on 82nd Avenue, but it truly is improving in recent years. And it's one of the best areas in Portland to get a wide variety of foods and goods from an array of cultures worldwide. Some of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants, Asian bakeries, and gift shops are in this area. The Jade District Market brings together all of the best vendors, restaurants and entertainers in the area, representing an inpressive number of Asian cultures. Located at the Southeast Portland Community College Campus, there was abundant parking in several lots, as well as direct access to the bus line. This event really was a family affair! There were so many vendors selling everything you could think of, as well as community services handing out goodies to the folks in the neighborhood. I bought a bundle of lucky bamboo, some chrysanthemum tea, and some cute locally made pottery. We decided to have Filipino food, prepared by a sweet grandmotherly figure fanning smoke from the grill with bundled banana leaves. The line moved quickly, and I thoroughly enjoyed my Pancit bihon and Lumpia. The entertainment schedule is action-packed, featuring local bands, student choral groups, dancers and more! I loved every minute of the market, and can't wait to visit next year as well! A great big thank you to the sponsors and community members who make this event happen... you are very much appreciated.

The space is minimal and industrial which is what we liked. The plants provided by the venue bring the space to life so well. Honestly, you need minimal decorations for it to be wedding ready. Having the outdoor space for cocktail hour, food trucks, beer pong, etc. was incredible. We had about 175 guests, so we really enjoyed the flow and space for our guests to get fresh air if needed. The Castaway team was helpful, responsive, and so great to work with! Highly recommend for weddings, events, etc. Thank you Castaway team!

We arrived as early as was recommended and found parking to be easy and affordable in the adjacent lot. There is also street parking. There are restaurants in the vicinity too, so make a night of it! We were in attendance on a fairly warm evening but the AC in the building kept up and kept temperatures comfortable. The bathrooms are downstairs, but the building has ramps and an elevator to accommodate wheelchair and mobility needs. When choosing a seat section online, I wasn't sure what to expect. Fortunately, there wasn't a bad seat in the house. The seats to the side are only a bit to the side. There are maybe 12 rows in the whole place, so even in the back, you can see and hear well. There were snacks and drinks available for purchase, and also a place to fill water bottles if you brought your own. The church pews aren't the most comfortable to sit on, but they are cushioned and manageable. We really enjoyed the experience at the Old Church and would not hesitate to go back or recommend it to anyone.
