A friend had recommended this bakery and looking through her page her work looked good so i contacted her and asked her to make cake pops for a friends birthday. I sent her the inspo pic and let her know thats what i wanted. She said she was able to do it and charged me $55 for a dozen of cakepops, which was on the pricier side from all the other bakers I asked but looking at the quality of work on her page I didn't mind because I wanted to give my friend a cute "instagramable" treat for their birthday. What I got was just atrocious.. first the color of the coating was this ugly turquoise color and some of them the coating was done super uneven and messy. Then she completely ignored the sprinkle detail, and to top it off she puts an orange candle on it that just clashed horribly with the blue color. It was so poorly made It would have been embarrassing to bring that to someone so I had to take the L and throw them out and still spend more time and money to rush to the grocery store to buy something else. When I contacted her she said she'd give me a full refund if I returned the cake pops to her and when I told her I threw it out she caught an attitude and asked why I would want a refund if I threw them away. When I told her I threw it out because it was so poorly made and unusable for a gift. She offered a partial refund and when i told her I wouldn't accept that I wanted the full refund she just left me on read. Just super disappointing all around and a waste of money. I was referred by a good friend and wanted to like the cookies I ordered but had to get them redone because they were not good. When I picked up the cookies we're still warm so the frosting smudged. The communication was nice at first but I had to send photos and let her know I wasn't happy. The order seemed rushed and very amateur to be honest. I appreciate her making them again but afterwards I didn't even get a "hope you come back or hope you liked the second batch" I had a family member pick up and even he said they weren't that nice. The inspo cake is what i sent as a referral picture and was told they could make it. The cake I received when I first picked it up was disappointing and sloppy. I told her I was not happy with it and she was nice enough to fix it up. She said that she only uses edible pictures, I don't understand why this was not made clear when I was ordering the cake that clearly had fondant. I wanted fondant, not paper that was peeling off the cake. The piping was a mess, I'm not sure what was going on with the corner. The paper banner looked super cheap. Overall it was poorly made and more stressful because I had to figure out a way to come back and pick it up while setting up for a party. The second time it looked better but even then the letters were sloppy and the fondant numbers were slipping off before we even cut it. So disappointing. Edit- she did not "discuss" the edible paper vs fondant issue with me when I was ordering this cake. I sent her a picture, she gave me quote and I paid her asap. This is a family run business. Wendy bakes out of her home and has little Bake sales on her porch. The house is quirky, with funny weird decorations on the outside- nothing that you would imagine a bakery to be. And you don't go inside the house. Our regular cake shop wasn't available so we took a chance with this shop as we needed a cake made within a week. Communication was nearly non existent. The cake was poorly frozen and left a pool of goo at the bottom of the delivery box. I understand home bakers may not have walk in fridges for storing cakes but look at the picture it's a mess. Really disappointed with how my cake turned out for my daughter's birthday. It was a neon glow party theme so I wanted it black with bright neon colors. The fondant was more like a dark brown, and nothing neon about it and you can clearly see mistakes and cracks on the cake (you can see some on the top in this picture) Instead of it being all covered in fondant, the details were printed on edible paper. I didn't get any message that this change was made. I was setting up for my party and didn't even get to check out the cake when it arrived. That was my fault. I was so embarrassed putting this on my dessert table (pictured below) and having my 100 guests see it. It was so much smaller than anticipated as well. I had no other cake option at that point, so we had to roll with it. When I messaged Wendy the next day, she said she cut her hand and had to get rid of all of the fondant apparently. I wished there was communication prior to this so I could be prepared and grab a cake from costco or the supermarket instead of being shocked that it was nothing like my inspiration picture (on the left). She ended up giving me back my money but I sent her back half (still $65!) for giving me a cake even though we didn't even eat it. She never responded or thanked me for that. I still think $65 was too generous for what I received and the stress and embarrassment I dealt with. Didn't try the cookies so maybe she's better at that. Had my baby shower 10/28/23 and I sat with this for a bit as it was a busy weekend but ended up reaching out to Wendy 10/31/23 personally through text as she felt at liberty herself to text me day off asking "latest you can pick up time." Based off the text she stated she was running late, had it not been a baby shower and I not placed the order more than a month in advanced I could have possibly understood why she was running late. However, I reached out to her through out the week before event to confirm the time frame I needed dessert by, being as it is a baby shower I would consider she would understand the event time frame I needed by was early 12pm and as I was communicating with an advanced order + verbal confirmation it should have been ready. Sadly, it was my first baby shower and I had my brother pick up and didn't think of asking him to check order first, sugar cookies upon arrival I wanted to try one and I opened one. The entire cookie icing came off with plastic wrap, all cookies where rubbing off smudged and not dry. We saved a couple for next day, which you can see in a pic of the pumpkin is still all crinkled even next day. The $50 cupcake boo inspo theme I added to the order came with white frosting only, nothing in relation to theme or what I sent her. , ($50 for plain white cupcakes I felt i could have picked up at Safeway after all.) "BOO" cake pops looked messy to me. The only thing dry was the cake and an order of blue cake pops. She's around on Facebook groups and her worked looked neat, seeing as to her having an entire website for orders it did seem very professional and promising. Absolutely disappointed in her no contact or response to my message in relation to this. She could have communicated this she clearly knew what I would be receiving as a heads up or some kind of concern. This review is being made because sort of messed up our wedding. It look like Wendy was a really good Baker and she was on one of the Los Angeles morning shows. That's where I saw her. When it comes to a cake for a wedding you have to start kind of early to make sure you get it done in time for your wedding reception. I contacted her 6 months earlier at the beginning of 2023 and she quoted me a price we talked about everything we were going to need to do. I sent her a picture of the cake I wanted an email she said great she could do it. I told her that the wedding was August 4th. She said contact me when it gets closer and we will go ahead with it. I contacted her 2 months before the wedding. Finally she contacted me back we did a three-way call with me my fiance and her. We talked about everything we were going to do and she said she would send out a invoice so we could go ahead and book it. She never contacted us back never sent an invoice never did anything. We called her on many different days and at different times of the day and left many messages. Finally we happened to get a hold of her. She said she had so many kids and she was so busy and crazy. She said she was going to send out an invoice that same day. Never got an invoice never heard back from her. We called her multiple more times and she never answered the phone. As time was going by it was getting so close to our wedding that we had to go with another Bakery. Actually one that had an actual shop in a plaza where you could go in. They gave us slices of cakes to try and we were able to make our choices. We put a deposit down that same day and away we went. We sent them a picture of the cake we wanted made. When we got to the shop they already had a printout of the picture of the cake we wanted and they made notes all over the picture of what we wanted and how we wanted it to be. Much more professional. Wendy seems to be a one woman show working out of her house in Lake Balboa. She should have just told us if she couldn't do our cake. She let us to believe she could do it and was sending out an invoice but it never came. Don't ever waste your time on her. If you see some good reviews from people saying hey the cookies turned out good. It seems like only the ones where she's making cookies have good reviews. All the reviews of her making a cake never turn out right. From other people saying they talked to her got a price supposed to get an invoice but got blown off and never heard back from her. To people saying that the cake didn't look like it was supposed to and they were embarrassed. I hate giving people a bad review and I clearly wanted to use her. I would have but she never got back to us ever. I hope this helps someone to not pick her. read more
