Potomac Riverboat Company, Old Town Alexandria, Virginia…read more September 2026 Living in Old Town, Alexandria for 15 years I've learned to appreciate the multiple ways of getting around the DMV. When the Anthem opened not too many years ago, I discovered the Potomac Riverboat Company and its Water Taxi. It proved to be the perfect way to get from Old Town Alexandria to the Anthem on the Wharf, where Sara Bareilles was performing in mid-September 2026. The Anthem is an outstanding venue - seating maybe 6,000 and hosting performances by the likes of the Killers, Sarah McLachlan, Dark Star Orchestra, and the Indigo Girls. And, on nights where the Anthem is hosting a performance, the Water Taxi offers a $2 discount to concert-goers using the taxi to get to the show. (Note that except for special events like baseball games, the last returning taxi from the Wharf to Old Town departs around 8 p.m., ruling out using the taxi to return after an evening concert.) The 6:30 p.m. taxi to the Wharf left right on time from a dock that is easy to spot once you know where to look . . . but if it's your first time you might want to consult with the folks in the ticket-selling kiosk across from Blackwall Hitch. Once in line an attendant scanned the QR code on my phone and I was on my way. It cost $19 for the one-way senior/military rate, less the $2 discount I got for using the code showing I would be going to the Anthem. It's a scenic and relaxing 30-minute ride, taking you past the Naval Research Facility, with its huge outdoor golfball-looking spheres sheltering its radar facilities, and Fort McNair, a United States Army post located on the tip of Buzzard Point that's also historically known as the Washington Arsenal. The taxi offers an inside cabin with ample seating, and an upper-deck that has seating and offers outstanding views of the Potomac River shorefront. There's a marine toilet that operates like those on airplanes, and a snack bar with alcohol and non-alcohol offerings. This is the kind of transit option that makes living in the DMV a real pleasure.

For our outdoor/Marquis Tent Wedding in November 2018, we used them for our Lighting, Sounds, and DJ Services. We couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. During the initial consultation, Brian was incredibly knowledgeable and answered all of the wedding related questions that we had. He was also able to give us some great advice and helpful recommendations given his previous experience working with numerous weddings. Brian was very creative and paid so much attention to detail with every aspect of our wedding. The sound during the ceremony was crisp. I can't tell you how many people came up later on, and said that they could hear absolutely everything even though it may have been difficult to see everything. We had a wedding of 300 people outdoors, so it can be difficult at times, but Brian was able to accommodate and appease everyone. For the reception, music was pumping, and Brian situated the speakers in a way that didn't take focus away from the wedding décor. He had a variety of songs that entertained and appealed to the crowd. The place was bumpin' when it was time to party!! In addition to that, Brian did our LIGHTING as well. I decided to check with my dear friend Google to see if he knew of a good wedding planner. I found 3 or 4 options and sent out an email to all, a couple responses consisted of the generic automated kick back email. I was pleasantly surprised when I listened to my first (of many) voicemails from Grace. She sounded so sweet, organized, and ready to get started. It was this initial contact that really made me feel like this company cared to make a good first impression and we set up the interview. Our first meeting with Grace was wonderful, she left us feeling confident that we could really plan and execute the wedding we wanted within our short time frame. From that day on, Grace worked diligently. She quickly gained an understanding of our likes and dislikes, which is so important when using a planner. She was able to weed out and narrow down my options without me always being there to offer input. I spoke with Grace on a daily basis, she was always updating, asking questions, or simply wishing me a good day! Grace is not only an incredible planner, she is kind, genuine, and honest. She quickly became a dear friend, a few tears were definitely shed at the end of the wedding day. She helped me put on my vail, drove our golf cart around the reception, and helped me take off my very complicated dress at the end of the night.
