It took me a long time of going back and forth on what to say in this post or if it will ever matter if I put it out there. But I know it will. I have been a long time patron of this theater. 20+ years. I've seen many owners, tons of changes, the scare that was Covid-- but one thing was always consistent besides the fresh popcorn. The staff. Many of us know who I'm talking about. The projectionist- Gracia- was there for longer then I had been a patron. She ran that place from the ground up. She even crowd funded (which I supported) purchasing the theater in 2019 before it was sold from under her. She was the bones the bread and the butter of that place. It was a labor of love and watching her adapt over the years and be so consistent was such a joy. Along with her awesome t shirts. This year there was yet another change of ownership. And I have come to learn that she was discarded like her 25 years of service meant nothing. And not only that, I was lied to that she left on her own. Which isn't the case. They also let go another staff member that has disabilities but a whole lot of heart. Sam was the light of my weekend. They worked there 12 years. My heart is heavy. This place was much more than a cinema. It was community. And now it just feels cold. I will not be returning. read more

First time going here and I really liked it. It is small, but nice seats and I took my mother-in-law to see Christmas Vacation and we had a nice time. The staff were friendly and helpful. The screen was perfect and the sound for a little theater was awesome! I will definitely be back to see some movies here! read more

One of my favorite things about this small cinema is the films they play. It's usually independent or something offbeat. They do play mainstream stuff but if you're looking for something different definitely check out what's going on here. It's a small place, has your usual movie snacks, and drinks available including beer, wine, and hard cider. It's great to see this place still in business after decades of playing great films. Happy they are there and will continue to keep going back. read more

'Shop local' includes seeing movies at Eveningstar Cinema rather than at a national or regional movie chain. Eveningstar shows independent and limited release films that the big chains avoid - you can see movies that won't be available at the big box screens. We enjoyed 'Tar,' especially happy to see a spectacular performance from Cate Blanchett. The wonderful movie experience is matched by their beverage selection: they have some fantastic local beer - Maine Beer Co. - as well as several special European brews, several red, white, and sparkling wine choices, and popcorn with REAL butter. With the remodel of the building, the parking seems a little easier - just park in the mall area or on the street if necessary. read more

Intimate cinema showing independent films that are of a unique subject matter and curated for our community. The seating is clean and includes 4 couches at the front closest to the screen. The popcorn has real butter, and they serve craft beer! The staff are friendly and very helpful. The parking for the strip mall is ample in addition to street parking. My one item on the wish list is for cleaner bathrooms. That's it--I cannot find anything else for improvement! You really feel connected in your cinema experience here. For that, 5 stars. read more

We loved this place when we went for our first time last night. There is a movie my husband had always wanted to see in the theater, but it's from the early 90s. I rented out the theater, and we got to watch it on the big screen. Great popcorn. Kind, friendly, quirky (in a great way) staff. Great ambiance, and filled with nostalgia. read more

That's Eveningstar's mission statement. And it's not just something they preach, but something they practice. As a side note, I have such a soft spot in my heart for indie movie theaters... the quirkier the better, in my opinion. And Eveningstar is always going to be one of those places I feel very, very fondly towards. Sure, one of the best dates of my life happened here (it was with a rock star and we went to see Once and then we sang Falling Slowly in the parking lot together... *swoon*), but it's more than just that. It's the intimacy of the one theater and couch seating (bringing back that sense of community). It's the commitment to exploring exceptional filmmaking (one movie shown a week). It's the smell of coffee and popcorn (and baked goods wafting down from upstairs). I really do love it here. Sure, I'd come more often if there were more movies being offered... but that's not what I want or why I come here. I come to get away and be swept up in another world. And if you're looking for that in your movie-going experience from time to time, then support your lovely local theater. read more

I love this movie theatre! Reasonably priced and it is "common practice" for them to double layer the butter on popcorn....this alone is enough to come here again and again. I love the films that come in here! Independent films are amazing here. Most recently saw The Lion. Amazing film. If you haven't tried it yet please do. You won't regret it. read more

The Gem of the Midcoast as far as movie theaters go! The price of admittance is cheap as far as movie prices go, $9 and under. Great selection of indie and popular main stream movies. The theater is an intimate, single screen house. With couches to boot! The snacks & fluids are reasonably priced. You should be able to enjoy a movie for under $10 each. And the staff is friendly and helpful! Great place for Birthday parties! read more

We could not of had a better experience. We rented out the theater for my daughters birthday. $100 was all it took. The owner had everything ready for us and was very understanding when we were running late. The set up was perfect and my daughter and her friends had a fantastic time. We will be back to rent it again for my son's birthday. read more

I love this theater and am so thankful we have something like this in the area! They play a different movie each week, all of their choices falling into what I'd consider to be high quality options (mostly independent or less widely released than what you'd find in your major cinemas). Their prices are reasonable (and it seems like you can always find a groupon deal or something similar) online. They have a few snack options (popcorn, of course) and sodas, very nice employees and a comfortable seating area (I especially love the couches). I'd highly recommend visiting if you're in the area! read more

This Cinema was a lot of fun when I was in High School and when the Base was still open. Some nights the whole parking lot would be filled right up. Sadly with the closure of the base and poor selection of new movies, this place is a ghost town. It's okay to hit once in awhile, but truly is a skeleton of what it once was. read more

A better experience than the big multi-plex. Locally owned and operated. I prefer smaller comfy venues, local flavor, and the memories of when every theater was like the Eveningstar. Suggestion: Rotating two movies would offer more variety, bring in more folks and higher revenue; we need to help preserve unique venues and experiences. This is a must visit if you are in Brunswick, ME! It is a small homey theater and has seating comprised of a combination of couches, rocking chairs, and regular theater seats. Getting in the front row in a couch is a goal when going to this theater. The tickets are much cheaper than regular theaters and the movies range from blockbusters to sundance film fest winners. I last saw Atonement at this theater with a few girlfriends and it felt like I was watching it cozied up at home, but with the big theater screen and audio. There is a full range of candy, popcorn and refreshments in case anyone was worried. read more

This is a unique theater with couches for the first row or two as opposed to traditional seats. The screen is probably the smallest I have ever experienced at a movie theater, but it is not a large theater so it does the job. I enjoyed seeing Brooklyn this weekend here. What a gem! I know people who live in Brunswick who don't even know this place exists. But I've been going for years. Independent, commercial and foreign films, great atmosphere (like watching a REALLY big screen TV in your own living room. But if you have a bad back, you might want to consider the traditional chairs instead), friendly and dedicated staff, fun food (I almost always get the hot chocolate and doctor it up with my own add-ins) and a cute furry mascot! I want to spread the word to support this great theater so we don't lose it. I have moved, but still go back to keep this important part of our community alive. This one screen theater is great for seeing limited release films. I will often come here when other theaters do not have the movies. The staff is friendly and the concession stand has the normal selections of popcorn, candy, and drinks. However the small theater desperately needs a renovation. The theater seats are very narrow with not a lot of leg room. Thankfully it's never too busy because I can't imagine having other people sit next to you. Up front there are some rundown couches that make the place seem like someone's basement and gross me out to think about their cleanliness. There was a lot of clutter in the front and it just seemed a bit run down. Also the HVAC systems kicked on during our movie and was so loud it overpowered the film and was quiet distracting. Lastly I'm not sure if it was their projector or the screen but it was unusually bright/reflective. I see over 60+ movies a year and know this is not normal. It actually gave me a migraine and was hard to look at. Overall a decent small art house theater, cheap enough if you have to see something that isn't playing elsewhere but not my first choice. read more

Love this place. It's so friendly and unique. We always get there early so we can sit down front on a couch with our feet up on a coffee table. It's as comfortable as watching Netflix at home but with the excitement of "going to the movies" The owner has a little dog that comes to the theater sometimes. The staff is friendly and chatty. Great selection of movies some main stream - some quirky indie films. The only thing that could make it better is if they let our Dachshund, Henry, in to snuggle up with us on the couch. Come to think of it, we've never asked about Henry - they just might let him in. read more

The Eveningstar Cinema is tucked into the Tontine Mall. It's fairly small, but it makes up for that in character. They have a couple of couches in the front and normal theater seats behind them. There is a piano in the theater and they show silent movies that are accompanied by that piano from time to time. I went there recently to see Atonement and they unfortunately had technical difficulties. It was fine and the transition between the reels of film were not all that great, but it's a small theater. We have worse things happen at the Lincoln Theater all the time, so I'm used to such things. This was the first time that I had even gone there when they had a technical difficulty. I love how small and intimate the theater is and that they give a discount to students who show their student ID. They usually show movies that aren't always at the larger theaters and also have special events at the theater. read more
