    Small Dig Into Dirt
    Dan M.

This was a small spot with creative paintings on the wall and a very lively atmosphere with the colors and music being played. There were a few chairs to sit at on the inside and a few tables outdoors. The menu had a number of sweets available ranging from rolled ice cream to milkshakes to donuts to brownies. There was something for everybody. I split a small s'mores and dig into dirt ice rolled ice cream ($6.50 each). The s'mores contained vanilla ice cream with graham crackers and chocolate syrup. That was then rolled into a cup and topped with homemade marshmallow whipped cream, crushed graham crackers, Hershey chocolates, and two toasted marshmallows. This was alright. There seemed to be much more topping than ice cream present. The toasted marshmallows were the highlight here as the vanilla ice cream seemed to be missing something. The dig into dirt consisted of chocolate ice cream mixed with Oreos. That was rolled and topped with whipped cream, crushed Oreos, and gummy worms. This seemed to have more ice cream present. The chocolate ice cream was creamy and went well with all the toppings. There was a nice balance of toppings to ice cream here. Will I go back? Possibly.

I waited in a very long line this past Saturday evening for a bubble waffle. Once I got to the front of the line, I was disappointed to find out they weren't making any bubble waffles that night. Since I waited all that time, I decided to try a dulce de leche soft serve ice cream in a waffle cone and a fruit tart. The dulce de leche ice cream was very good - creamy and not too sweet. Unfortunately, my waffle cone was extremely soft and could hardly keep my ice cream contained. It wasn't crunchy at all when I first got it and the bottom was leaking because the cone was too soft. There was such a long line that I didn't bother asking for a new cone, but I wish I did. As for my fruit tart, the fruit and pastry cream were delicious but I do wish the base of the tart was more of a flaky tart crust instead of a firm graham cracker-like crust but that's just a personal preference. I may have an unpopular opinion and I do think people will buy the specialties for the sake of the hype, but I think their specialty products ($6.50-9.50 for rolled ice cream and $8-14 for milkshakes) are wildly overpriced and overrated. I was watching their workers make the rolled ice cream and there's no way that you get your money's worth with that small amount of cream and toppings. You can get a larger quantity of good quality ice cream and toppings mixed in the same way for less money at a place like Cold Stone Creamery; the ice cream at Cold Stone just isn't rolled up. Overall, I think that Even More Epic has a lot of kinks to work out as a new business...but I'm sure the hype of their specialty products will help them thrive in downtown Somerville.

When you enter this place, there is certainly a wow factor. The amazing desserts and cakes in the case quickly caught our attention. I'm eager to come back here for one of those brownies. And I could see splurging for one of those cakes for a special occasion. However, our actual dessert experience was a bit a letdown. We splurged on one of their huge fancy milkshakes... a $14 milkshake!!! And it was rather disappointing. I'd say it was 10% cookies, 30% whipped cream, 10% ice cream, and 50% plain white milk. When we realized we were drinking straight milk, we threw it out with a significant amount left. Also, the wait time was extremely long for a dessert. Needs some improvement on the quality of milkshake and service time, but I'm willing to give it another shot for one of those brownies.

It was really fascinating how many flavor options they had available. The shop calls itself homemade so I assume it is, but it's impressive to offer so much. I ordered a Thai iced tea in a small size. It may have been their small but it was a large scoop in the cup. It was a welcomed surprise to end my night out, the ice cream end up being very good and tasted exactly how the namesaked drink tasted like. There was a bit of a wait to it even though there was maybe 3 people in front of me in line. I think it was a good 15 to 20 minutes of waiting before I was able to order. Almost seemed like they did one order at a time. I may have ordered ice cream in a cup but they were still doing milk shakes and other things for other people. I assume that's what took so long. They have wooden benches outside in the parking lot which is nice on a summer night to sit and enjoy a treat. Probably will come again when I stumble near it.

It's a short walk away, and they are now in Epic Cookies' old location. This new space is bigger and more front and center. A lot of people did not realize that their old location was even there on Division Street, until I took them there. They just opened this location about three days ago, so it was pretty busy when I visited today, and even Karin and her husband were in there helping out! Both very kind people! I came in for my favorite "Death by Chocolate" cupcake and was excited to try two new flavors, Coconut Guava and Lemon Raspberry. I usually check their website ahead of time to see what seasonal cupcakes they have before visiting, I saw those and rush over here. P.s. please bring back the Versailles Cupcake from Summer '25! That raspberry filling is heaven sent, and part of the reason why I came by to try the Lemon raspberry flavor! Even with the rush, the staff was just as friendly as always. I really love it here and always bring my family and friends when they are in town! I'll definitely miss the charm of the old location, but I'm excited for them in this new space and hope that it works out well for them!

Frozen Falls is my go-to froyo spot in the Basking Ridge area. As huge lover of froyo, I've scoped…read moreout my fair share of self-serve shops over the years. I gotta say, Frozen Falls ranks pretty highly among all of them and here's the reasons why... 1) So so sooo many toppings to choose from. Their selection is like nothing I've ever seen before. They literally have every last topping you could ever hope for. From fruits, to candy, to cereal, to chocolate covered almonds (say whaaaaat?!), they really do have it all. Try not to get overwhelmed because at Frozen Falls your wish really is their command. 2) Testers. In my opinion, every self serve froyo shop NEEDS to allow for people to test flavors. Frozen Falls does just that. You will have to ask an associate for tester cups (they'll do it for you), but my experience has always been that staff is super patient and willing to let you try as many flavors as you'd like. 3) Open late for when you have those 10pm froyo cravings. I absolutely love that they're open til 11pm on Fridays! 4) Clean, bright, and open floor plan. Staff kept the tables in tip top shape and the froyo dispensers were clean too. 5) Free and accessible water. These are the small details that Frozen Falls certainly hasn't overlooked. I can usually chug back a water after eating all the sweets so its nice that they keep a water dispenser right at your finger tips. 6) Pay by the weight so feel free to get as little (or as much) as you want!

They have a floatea which is a combination of ice cream and bubble tea. This is a meal all by itself, but pretty tasty if you've never had one .
