We hired Katie as our doula and unfortunately, although she was supposed to be on call for us starting at 36 weeks, when I actually went into labor (past my due date), she did not answer her phone. We tried repeatedly to contact her via text and phone for over 3 hours. At that point, she finally answered her phone and we asked her to come out to assist us. She said she would be there in about an hour but didn't show up until 2 hours later with no text or call to let us know she was running behind. She missed the entirety of our labor and the birth of our child, thoroughly defeating the purpose of having a birth doula. To her credit, she did provide a partial refund for the services she did not provide, but we felt that the refund should have been in full since she didn't provide the services we had agreed upon. I made several attempts to reach out to her regarding my dissatisfaction but she refused to respond to me. Overall, we were incredibly disappointed by this experience and we would not be able to recommend Katie to anyone. This might have been a one off goof on her part, but I would have expected her to make more an effort to fix things on the back end. After all, everyone makes mistakes, and if it had been my mistake and I was supposed to be on call and didn't hold up my end of the bargain, I would have been mortified enough to provide a full refund to my disappointed customer.

Then when they flat out ignored my test results and shamed some of my personal decisions, I decided to find a care provider that my husband and I wouldn't have to fight with during labor. And boy did I. It was night and day. Ashley was on my team, she is insanely intelligent and knowledgeable, she actually made me feel relaxed about labor, she had lots of information about everything when I needed it but ultimately supported me making my own decisions. I felt like if something went wrong during labor, I could actually trust her to put my and my baby's health first before anything else. Baby girl delivered 100% naturally, 10 lbs 4.4 oz, 22 inches long, and a giant head (92nd percentile I believe). No stitches. Quick postpartum recovery. And when baby girl's shoulder got stuck, Ashley knew exactly how to move baby and I to get her out with no injury to anyone. I was able to walk out and go home 3.5 hours after delivery... talk about non-traumatic. I know that would have been a different story if I stayed at the hospital. I'll always be so thankful for Ashley and her sweet assistant. Her birthing center is so lovely too. The drive over there puts me in a good mood because of how serene it is. The center itself is so clean and private and comfortable. It felt like heaven compared to the discomfort I felt at the hospital. Bonus that for postpartum visits I don't have to bring my newborn around a ton of people at a hospital. Thank you Ashley!!!

Not only did she educate us on what to expect, but she made us feel confident as decision makers and parents - before our girl was even here! My birth experience was intense and I cannot imagine going through it without Kaitlyn by my side. There truly isn't a better advocate for mom and baby than a doula. We learned that the hospital and staff (while they were great) just aren't as invested in you as a family. My pregnancy with my first was an overall good experience-but left me feeling a bit like a number and not a person. This pregnancy, I had so much more energy and felt much less anxious-and I owe it all to Becky's support and encouragement. "Normal" pregnancy symptoms weren't over looked and she had recommendations and cared to help me navigate every step. The way she listened and educated was really empowering and healing in and of itself. We had hour (or longer) visits and access to talk with Becky between visits in an online portal-which gave no time for concerns to fester. The way she cared for me (and my 2 year old) at each visit really surpassed expectations and I always left motivated and excited for the next visit. Being truly cared for in a medical setting is not common. All of this resulted in the easiest and quickest labor which was a huge answered prayer. She is intentional, very knowledgeable, and hilarious. Every pregnant mama needs a Becky! We were a little nervous about the cost initially-but the value and services included make Dallas Birth really a great value. So many things were included that we paid out of pocket for our first-lactation services, placenta encapsulation, birth tub, birth classes, pregnancy teas, and probably a lot more that I'm not thinking of or didn't need. And we can submit a claim to insurance after to get reimbursed. I also loved that I didn't have to research different services-Becky takes care of everything.
