I found Evan and Laurel through Yelp! I saw all the raving reviews and was extremely impressed. When I initially contacted Evan, he responded so quickly, and was very informative. I never felt pressured to sign anything, as most agents are quick to jump the gun when asking basic questions. My husband and I were first time home buyers, so the questions we had were endless. While majority of our transaction was seamless, we ran into a closing date issue. This was not Evan or Laurel's fault, but was on my lender. I quickly told Evan about our problem and he immediately jumped in. He went above and beyond the call of duty to do what he could to have our original closing date back on track. And while we weren't able to get it back on track, he offered excellent work-arounds. It all worked out in the end! When it comes to final walk throughs, Laurel is your gal! Her attention to detail is meticulous, which as a buyer, you definitely want. There were things she noticed that I would have NEVER picked up on. I met Evan in the year 2016 when I was so NEW in Houston, I had just left my current realator who was assisting me with a the purchase of my home. I left my realator because he was clueless to many of my questions and I felt he was incompetent. He got upset with me because I wanted to know so much about the areas in Houston before buying a home in any location. That led me to search for a new realator myself without any referral from any friend or colleague like my past realator was. I came across Evans review online and I took time for days to read some of those reviews and also check out his sales record and read his profile. I was amazed that he bares all those qualities. The first time I called his office to speak with him I felt that professionalism and work ethics I missed from my previous realator. I got so much information in that short while we spoke. To cut a long story short. Throughout our meeting and visits to the home I wanted to purchase he gave me so much information that I felt I didn't need that area that I was about to close on. Since I was new in the city I didn't know much and my previous realator was all about me getting a home and buying since it's was going to a cash buy and quick. I know I met Evan at the right time. Now that I know the city much than I did before I would have regretted buying that previous home. Well, fast forward, I didn't close on that home. The area wasn't what I was looking for in the long run. I told him I wasn't going to go with the home purchase and I was shocked by his answer. He actually told me that a home is a long time asset and that since I don't feel comfortable with the location I could take my time and look at other properties and make sure I feel comfortable and happy with my purchase. Then 2017 Harvey happened and I was affected. Slowed down on everything. But then in 2018 my dad wanted to build a home and I couldn't think of anyone but Him. It was a custom home in a great location that Evan helped with, from the custom plan to building he helped me beyond what a realator should do. He helped with all the picks by informing us what will always count and be a plus when it comes to resale. I saw him as a realator and also a friend. His judgements, recommendation and input became so vital to me because he is very knowledgeable in his field. Whenever something is beyond his knowledge he tells you he will find out and he gets back to me sooner than expected. He is a GREAT realator and more. He helped with the closing of our home by giving us all the informations we need as cash buyers to get the right inspectors and attorney to make sure we are well satisfied and taken care of even at closing. Prior to listing our townhome, Evan confidently assured us that we could list it for far higher than we we thought prior to going through the process. The first open house and set of showings, the weekend after the listing went up, resulted in 3 highly competitive offers, one of which we countered near our initial asking price, and Evan successfully negotiated down the financing contingency substantially. Following this, Evan helped us through virtually everything, from negotiating after the inspection report came back, to keeping us updated on everything through the bank appraisal. In fact, when the buyer was stubbornly expecting us to pay entirely for a whimsical fix (rerouting the air ducts), Evan even kicked in some of his own cash on top of what we were offering to make the deal go through. When we first met Evan Compean, he explained in great detail our options between buying and selling our house. It was evident very quickly after that first meeting that he had a great passion for his job. We were right! He and his team are driven by service over sales. Working with this company is like having 5 personal assistants throughout the entire process. You communicate with the entire team from begging to end. I was impressed to receive near-immediate responses to my email communications. One time I even received an immediate response to a late Sunday evening message. This crew doesn't wait until "business hours" to write back. If you have a pressing issue, they will be there for you. You feel their support not just by reading their name on the numerous email threads, but also in practical ways. Here is an example, Laurel spent considerable time with my wife and me, walking our property, doing a methodical inspection, looking for opportunities to find those minor upgrades that would help us rent for a higher price. My husband and I relocated to Houston on relatively short notice from NYC in July and wanted to buy a house quickly. Evan was an excellent guide in our search for a house in the Heights. We had an offer accepted on a house, and then eventually we terminated during the option period due to concerning findings in the inspection. We then moved on to the house that I'm currently sitting in as I write this review. Evan was so helpful and responsive all along the way. One of the things I liked best about Evan was his good numbers sense. The comps he prepared were thorough, and he gave very good reasoning for each. This was invaluable to us being totally new to the area. He also gave us really precise estimates of where he thought a house we were interested in should ultimately land on sale price, even counseling us to offer less than what we were willing to offer. This was so helpful since we are so new to the Houston area and didn't know the local market as well as we would have liked. We had a couple of tricky points in the negotiations, and we found Evan to be an excellent negotiator on our behalf. I purchased a home about a month ago using Evan as my realtor. I found him on Yelp and decided to give him a try. I was working with another agent previously and wanted to scout around to see if I could find someone that would help me negotiate more aggressively and that knew the inner loop market a little better than my previous agent. Evan absolutely delivered on all accounts. Yes, he was prompt at returning emails with lots of useful information for a first time home buyer. It's obvious that Evan loves what he does. Bonus points: he's also a terrific negotiator. To give a great example of the quality of agent Evan is...There was a home near Jersey Village I was VERY interested in viewing. We have been working with Evan for almost a year when we built our home. He is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and extremely responsive.
