Europea was never on our radar; certainly never a place we went looking for... just a place we stumbled upon that actually became a cure for a bunch of problems when we were unable to locate the grocery store that was supposed to be near to our condo.
We needed water to keep in our condo as we were trying to prevent Montezuma's Revenge from visiting us... as it was suggested to us many times to only drink filtered water and since this was not my first rodeo and I didn't want to suffer the wrath of being stuck on the porcelain throne for the next few days).
We also needed some snacks, breads and meat for sandwiches (after all I didn't want to starve while poolside) and some alcoholic beverages.
After giving up on locating the grocery store that a couple of staff members of our condo told us about, we cut through Quinta Algeria Shopping Mall so Marisol could check out a couple of shops (always seeking new tops, shoes and bathing suit). Then we noticed Europea (which appeared to be a liquor store).
Since beer wine and liquor was on the grocery list we decided to check out Europea and purchase what we needed; and what a pleasant surprise to see they had so much more on our grocery list... as a matter of fact, everything we needed was here.
They have an excellent selection of wine and liquor and the prices all seemed fair. As far as beer goes, we didn't fare so well there but when in Mexico we are all about the margarita so limited selection of beer was no problem. They also had bottled water (Fiji, Evian and others), which to be honest I do not like to drink... at home, I only drink Perrier or other snobby seltzer brands. And lucky me, they had Perrier.
Here is the interesting part, they have a full service deli counter. The selections of meat we're limited but what they had was excellent quality. They also had various bread/rolls and cheeses; and they had a nice assortment of spreads and items perfect for making a nice food tray (mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, peppers, caviar, crackers, et cetera).
We even ended up buying some pasta and sauce so we could cook a little late night dinner. And we even managed to purchase a couple of chocolate bars...
Since we were so impressed with the place, we returned a couple days later to buy more bread and meat. I guess since we were here earlier in the day, the deli had a bunch of pastries buy the breads which they did not have on our other visit. I don't know who makes the breads and pastries for them but everything was delicious. read more
