Pure poison. Car was nice, and no issues. First inkling was some extra charge at the airport because our reservation was still two hours in the future. No big deal, but they forced a different rental of a more expensive car for about 100 Euros more. Walking through the garage we saw dozens of the smaller car we rented. But was glad we got the huge Fiat. Bigger problem came later upon returning the car after hours and dropping off the key. Later they charged an 'admin' fee for non-existent damage to the car. Also the claim of two traffic offenses so far with 'admin' fees apart from the supposed tickets. No proof whatsoever of the camera traffic tickets, but in fairness it is possible. What's most odd is they charge 45 euros for every little thing with zero, none, no explanation until you call the American office in New Jersey and you get some real, and some fake info. Their claim of damage was 100% false, not a scratch, not a chance of any scuff mark, NOTHING. If you ever leave a car in their lot in Rome, take pictures! Keep away. I rented a small car at Roma Termini rental office just for one day to go to Pompei. First they proposed full cover insurance for additional E14 a day. I agreed to pay. After I returned the car after just one day the guy collecting the vehicle went straight to the right mirror and pulled a small piece of plastic out of it claiming it my damage, but I will not be charged, because I have the insurance. I am sure some previous customer had to do this damage or they did it themselves. I could not do this, because somebody picked the piece of plastic thorn off the mirror and inserted it to its place, so that it was barely visible. I would remember if I did it. After I returned home I checked my bank account to find that they charged extra E100 for something. I tried to contact their customer service in Italy. I was given some phone number but it was too short. I called again and got a different number, but it was unreachable too. Then I called Europcar in France. They were more helpful. They found the record of my rental and told me I was charged not for the damage, but for "damage administration fee" E100. The email address in the record was purposely overwritten with random digits, so I did not receive any receipt. So the price of rental was E50, insurance E14, but they charged me extra E100. I feel dissatisfied, robbed of E100 and they do not even pick up the phone. E100 is not worth of my time I would have to invest to chase them. We are still getting emails now about new charges, new damage, and traffic tickets (which we did not get any) that they are telling us they are charging us for now. Had a DISASTER of an experience with this company. I rented a van from them and it ended up breaking down on us. The vehicle had less than 10,000km on it. Things like that happen, so you cannot blame Europcar for this. However, the way they handled the situation was unbelievable. They had someone come and pick up the vehicle (the clutch was slipping). They did not bring a replacement vehicle and expected me to get to one of their locations 1.5 hours away for a new van. Additionally, I was without a vehicle for a day and a half, but they still charged me for a rental on those days...and it gets better. I never ever get rental insurance, but since I was on vacation I figured why not be completely worry free. They have a package called "Go Zen". They tell you that you will not have a thing to worry about....well, I find out later that the clutch is not covered in their insurance policy and they are billing me another $795 Euros. I have driven an automatic for 30 years with no issues and their clutch going out on my watch is my fault. Their team in the UK was very helpful and attempted to resolve the situation; however, the staff in Italy is impossible to work with at all. The nightmare continues.... read more

I have been extremely badly treated by Auto Europe. They are very underhanded and untrustworthy. I had decided to go on a little 3 day road trip from Rome and booked a car via their website. I was told that my reservation was confirmed and that I could pick up my car at the station on the 17th of August, (48 hours later). When I got to the office they told me that my card would not be accepted because it was a Visa Debit card NOT a Visa Credit card. The women at the desk told me that I would get a refund of 50 euros and that I would have to get the rest of my refund via their online office. When I got back from my trip, (which, by the way, I had to spend another 300 euros on another rental car!), I found that my 50 euros had NOT been refunded and that they did not intend to give me any money back. I was told by their customer service department that IF I had opened up the page with the voucher on it and read the details I would have read that I needed to have a credit card and that I could not have my money back if I didn't cancel 48 hours beforehand. I have looked at the voucher page which is written in Italian and it clearly states that I have 48 hours to cancel, I got to the office only 2 day after I had booked on line. These people are clearly DISHONEST AND DISREPUTABLE, DECEITFUL AND A DISGRACE. DO NOT USE THEM. Thoroughly disgusted. Oona Napier read more
