The pickup was great and we inspected everything together. The person inspecting did not look at the hubcaps, however, or point out any damage on them. Then, I drove the car for 48 hrs and never once parallel parked the vehicle and I did not hit anything, not even one curb m the car was in the same exact condition as when I rented it. However, the valet guy at the pickup claimed I damaged the hubcap with a tiny scratch less than one inch that you could barely even see. When I refused and explained that I didn't do that, he told me I was liable. He then told me to stand in a line that was over an hour at the counter if I wanted to contest it. This is 100% a scam as they know customers can't stand in long lines and wait when they are catching flights at the airport. Luckily, I was very early so I waited, and also got on the phone with my insurance immediately. The person at the counter was not helpful at all and told me they will be charging me for this extremely minor regular wear and tear on the vehicle that I did not damage myself. This was my first time renting with Europcar and it will 100% be my last. What should have been a $350 rental turned into over $800 because of sneaky extra charges and bogus damage fees. They slapped on a cross-border fee and a premium station surcharge even though I had already paid what was required when I booked. Then at drop-off, they claimed there were scratches on the car. Funny thing is -- when I picked it up, there was no damage report provided at all. The car was parked in a ridiculously tight garage, and they apparently expect customers to crawl around inspecting every inch, then go all the way back to the desk to argue about it. Completely unrealistic. When I contacted customer service, they were no help at all. Basically, their attitude was "too bad, you should've caught it." No accountability, no fairness, nothing. Bottom line: Europcar will nickel and dime you, tack on hidden fees, and then blame you for damage you didn't cause. Absolutely terrible experience! We booked a rental car via booking.com for one day to go from Nice to Avignon (a few hours drive, all in France). It was $250 or so, which seemed high, but... fine. Then, a day after I returned the car, my card was charged for over $1,500 (!!!) - mainly due to a 1000 euro "one way fee" they imposed because I dropped it off at a different location. They also added a "premium location fee" for pickup in Nice. At pickup, they confirmed the booking details but did not mention any additional fee. Beware: these folks are operating a petrol scam. I was handed a car with 75% fuel, handed it back with 90% fuel (i.e. gave them free fuel)... and was charged a "refill fee". I rented a car from this company via a 3rd party website, when I got there they tried to upsell me a rental car, laid out all the charges for me to upgrade and the price very clearly. I decided to stick to my original booking, which had no add ons whatsoever, but has collision cover insurance so I stuck to that. The vendor even said to me I won't bother asking you if you want insurance because I see you have it here then asked for a deposit. During the transaction he told me very clearly that this payment of £300 was simply a hold on my credit card and would be released after drop off. This charge never even appeared on my statement, however a few they later charged me £291.30 option for something called "Go Zen" which is a term I've never heard of in my life. When I disputed the charge they showed me the contract I signed, which was all in French and that they told me it was solely to confirm that I agreed to the details of the car I was renting the only words I could read were indeed those details so I stupidly trusted them. read more

Appalling. We waited two hours beyond the time we had booked in heat only to be told that they didn't have any left. And it was said as though it was our fault. All around us other people were collecting cars so we asked for a bigger car category, if there were none left in ours. Shame on you!!! We returned our car after a 12 day trip and were told the inside was too dirty and they would charge us a "cleaning fee" or I could take it to a gas station and vacumn it myself. What???. I asked "what is considered overly dirty"? They said some mud. Ok, my teenagers and I used our water bottles and leftover napkins and cleaned any visible mud out of the car. I asked if this was acceptable and the two checkin girls said yes. I even went inside to the counter and made sure they closed out my invoice! Guess what? Got home from my trip and they charged a $45 fee to my card anyway. Since when do we have to vacumn our own cars that have normal dirt after 12 days? I chose Europe car rental through Rental Cars.com iPhone app and I was able to get my car fairly quickly from a friendly agent. Europecar had competitive rates and many of the agencies do try to tack on extraneous fees. Of course you have to be vigilant and ask questions, which is tough when you've just been on an international flight. I also needed a GPS for navigation which was an additional cost of 15 euros per day. I'd recommend buying one or if you have a phone with a local SIM card and enough data then of course you won't need a GPS unit. Our Fiat took us all the way to Meribel Mottarette for an Alpine half marathon running race and back. Be prepared to spend a ton on tolls though. In France there are toll many many toll gates where as in Italy you typically pick up a ticket at one end and pay when you get off the highway or at your final destination. Apparently in Switzerland you'll pay one fee and then no tolls for one year and you are allowed to travel within the country wherever you like. The convenience and flexibility of having a car is one of the many reasons we chose to rent one. If you have time on your side and can plan ahead it is much more economical to use public transit. read more

They made sure to add charges so that we will not get our initial deposit. They are the worst. Don't even deserve 1 star. Please go for Hertz or Avis, they are far better. read more

Got charged a young driver fee despite being 25 because apparently Europcar's age cutoff is 26, unlike the rest of the world and even the other companies in the same airport. If the counter rep had been able to explain this, everything would have been fine--I would have gone with another company there and then. Instead she told me "the age is 26 *in France*" which of course is a lie, but in my ignorance it sold me. I don't think she purposely lied but she had no details or explanations, telling me I could try to resolve it with customer service later. This I did, and of course customer service is simply saying "Sorry, you signed the contract" without any explanations or apologies. Sure, I could have been better informed before choosing Europcar, but I'm feeling quite cheated by the poor communication. Would not recommend. read more

Nous avons loué une Jeep compact diesel et dans les quelques heures qui ont suivi la location nous avons remarqué qu'il fallait ajouter un produit qui s'appelle de l'Adblue. Quand je roulais il n'y avait pas d'alerte de tableau de bord, c'est à l'arrêt que mon mari l'a remarquée. Donc, en fait si ce n'avait été le fait que mon mari ait garé la voiture, moi je n'aurais rien remarqué (c'est moi qui conduisait). Si vous manquez de ce produit, le moteur s'arrête tout simplement. Donc elle n'avait pas été correctement révisée. D'abord il a fallu essayer de voir où on pouvait trouver de l'AdBlue et aussi comment le mettre dans la voiture. Parce que les conseils d'Eurocar furent de nous dire qu'on pouvait faire 2500 kilomètres et puis d'aller à une station-service. Mais comment savoir si cette alerte n'avait pas été déjà en marche avec le précédent loueur de la voiture. Il s'avèrera que le réservoir d'Adblue était pratiquement vide. D'abord il faut trouver une station-service qui a ce produit et trouver la bonne pompe. Hors si vous êtes dans le sud de la France même au mois de septembre il y a une énorme circulation, la queue à la pompe et puis comment se servir de la pompe Adblue? Comme nous n'arrivions pas à nous en servir et que j'étais sur le point de demander de l'aide, j'ai vu un employé d'Europcar qui remplissait une voiture d'essence. Je lui ai demandé s'il pouvait nous aider, et il nous a dit de le suivre jusqu'au comptoir Europcar à 5 mn d'où nous étions où il a mis 5 litres du produit! Donc la panne était imminente! Il mérite une médaille et je voudrais signaler qu'il travaille à Europcar 55, rue ou avenue de la république à Aix-en-Provence où nous étions arrivé. Je le remercie de tout mon cœur. Mais c'est un scandale que Europcar ne révise pas ses voitures! Imaginez le temps passé à essayer de résoudre le problème, le stress et le danger que cela représentait! read more

First of all we had to wait for over a hour in queue, besides the people there working very slow. After we finally completed the registration we couldn't leave the garage because their employee forgot to give us the exit-ticket which is necessary to leave the garage. We had to walk back leaving the car at the exit, finally an employee from another carrental-company gave us an exit-ticket. This is by far the worst car-rental company I have ever seen. rented from them 11 times, they have good cars and good rates BUT they insist on putting advertising on their cars usually in the back window. That is like a red flag to crooks who target tourists. When i told them they disagreed with me. We were in a high tourist area so i bought some tape and taped over the sticker. Also, got caught twice speeding by cameras, and Europcar took 46.00, twice, off my credit card as a surcharge because they had to give the police my contact information. My bad, and ten dollars i wouldnt mind but almost 100.00 for that is nothing but an opportunity to rip me off and they did. Wasnt going too fast because the fine was 30.00. We had the worst experience at Nice airport. We had to wait 3 and a half hours to actually get our reserved car. This was in an overcrowded non AC area. Many other travelers were also complaining about the absurdity of such a long wait after having booked months ago online. The car was finally located to us, and was the wrong size so we then had to wait another half hour. They added Euro 300 deposit in case there was any damage. We returned the car in perfect condition and their rep assured us we would be refunded the deposit within 3 days (did not happen) To call France to dispute this, they have an 8p a minute charge!! Finally found a free number in England and are now waiting to see if we will ever be refunded. Awful company!! read more

Be Warned - They Will Scam You For Everything Possible A car that stunk of cigarettes so badly that it made us feel sick and required us to drive with the windows open. A car so covered in dings, dents and black tyre debris marks that we just knew that we had to photograph and video it in every detail as none were shown on the Vehicle Condition documents handed to us. Upon return of the vehicle you can guess what happened; their subsequent vehicle inspectors then identified the worst of the pre-existing dings, marks and dents and we were told that we were responsible for them... When we showed them the photographic evidence taken on a mobile phone (which have time and date stamps within them) that we had taken their inspector neither apologised nor agreed that we were correct. Quite clearly this was a deliberate scam to extract our entire £300 deposit from us. Finally when we checked our bank statement we see that they slipped a £25 'Super Loss & Damage Protection' out of our deposit monies. At no time whatsoever were we sold this nor even told about this - they simply STOLE it from our account and we are now trying to get it back. Thankfully we're not having to try to get our deposit back because we were too smart for them and took photo's and video. Do yourself and indeed anyone you know considering renting a car through Europcar or Easyjet a massive favour; NEVER rent from Europcar, take photo's and video of any car you hire from anyone else on your phones and use a Credit Card for payment because these people WILL scam you any way that they can. read more
