Ambiance Kitchen + Lounge is a new Mediterranean restaurant and hookah bar in the East Village…read moresection of downtown. The interior was nicely furnished with various colors of velvet lined furniture. Light bulb fixtures of all shapes and sizes hung from the ceiling. A stage area was set in front of a large projection screen. The bar was situated in the back right corner of the room. Hookah pipes were offered if you were into vaping. I visited recently on the same evening as a FIFA World Cup match so most of the customers were present to watch the Morocco game on the giant screen. I sat at a sofa in the back with a coffee table in front of it. The one-page menu featured salads, soups, and hot/cold appetizers on the upper half. The lower half listed the saj wraps, entrees, featured items, combos, and desserts. Each entree was served with rice and pickles. There were 11 choices, and I picked the Shrimp Skewers. Six pieces of grilled shrimp seasoned with Mediterranean spices were served on top of orange-colored rice. A cup of tzatziki sauce and a cup of hot sauce were provided on the side for dipping. For a reasonable price of $22, the portion size was decent. The shrimp was cooked to the right degree, and the sauces helped moisten the rice. I did want a cup of Lentil Soup before the main dish, however I was informed that the kitchen didn't have any prepared. That was strange because such an item is ubiquitous and always available at any Middle Eastern eatery. Also of note was that if you wanted water, then there was a charge for a bottle of still or sparkling. Complimentary regular filtered tap water was not offered. Overall, I gave a four star rating for my dinner at Ambiance.

Overall it wasn't too sweet which I can't say for most desserts, I will eat one bite and be done but this one, I shared with my partner and we ate every last bite of it. Whether it's just the two of us or a group of friends, this place never disappoints. The service is some of the best you'll experience. No matter how busy they are, the staff is always attentive, friendly, and on top of everything. Recently, I believe we were assisted by the manager, and seeing him jump in to help his team while ensuring everything ran smoothly spoke volumes about his leadership. A great staff starts with great leadership, and it definitely shows here. 10/10 for service. While we don't typically come for dinner, we absolutely love their breakfast. Their Turkish-style breakfast is an experience in itself and is meant to be shared with friends and family. I've brought several people here for breakfast, and every single person has loved it. Most of our visits are for the hookah, desserts, and drinks. The desserts are all delicious in their own way--you really can't go wrong with whatever you order. My personal favorite drink, and the one I recommend to everyone, is the Sahlep. It's a warm, perfectly balanced blend of cinnamon and vanilla that pairs amazingly with hookah. Speaking of hookah, theirs is outstanding. The flavors are great, the setups are unique, and the bowls last for hours. I've spent 3-4 hours here and my hookah was still going strong. Some people may initially be surprised by the prices, but the quality, service, and overall experience absolutely justify the cost. This isn't just a place to eat or smoke hookah--it's an experience. As a loyal customer, I can honestly say this is one of my favorite places to unwind. I highly recommend giving it a try. Cheers!

Please check the machine before you sign to pay as they automatically pick an additional amount for you. Ahmet was the main server, but was training another lady. Not the best practices to pickup if you ask me. This and poor service are a couple of the reasons why I won't be coming back. Other reasons: they try to upsell you with additional items. Like hard. Examples are the dessert and this onsite professional photographers photos. There is one bathroom for each gender for the whole restaurant. There was a line for both bathrooms due to there not being enough. Food wise .... Overpriced. The dishes look good, but you can get the same or similar dish cheaper in El Cajón City and with more flavor. Combine overpriced and poor service there is no reason to come back. I will say one of the good things were the drinks. Although they don't serve alcoholic beverages they make up for it in beverage options and flavor.

Today, I mentioned to my sister-in-law that we were planning to go to this restaurant, and she suggested that I follow up to confirm the reservation since I had made it a few weeks before Mother's Day. I called to confirm, and lo and behold -- they didn't have our reservation on file. Instead of apologizing or trying to help, they were incredibly disrespectful over the phone and kept trying to blame us for their mistake. I have no idea why they couldn't just take responsibility. They even tried to gaslight me into believing I hadn't made the reservation correctly. All I did was call, give them my information, and they told me I was all set. I honestly don't know how that could be misunderstood any other way. Needless to say, we won't be spending Mother's Day there -- and after the way they handled the situation, we probably won't be returning at all.
