I live hand to mouth on a fixed income and often have to let bills fall a month behind when unexpected expenses come up and especially my power bill in winter when the costs are highest. This month EWEB totally screwed me over, when AFTER I had already posted a payment online but before they processed it, their computer flagged me with a diconnect warning and door hangar. They refused to fix it, despite my payment having been scheduled ONLINE before their computer declared me delinquent. This resulted in my being overcharge $27.91 cents that they have yet to explain the full addition of, and my being required to bring my bill fully up to date, which has left me broke from the middle of this month, hungry and in pain because I can't afford medicine. They should have fixed it and undone the computer's error but they told me point blank on the phone that they are servants of the computer, it is their master, they have no control over it and what it says is always right, and that I had to suck it up and suffer for them. Now, looking at the current bill, which printed before they processed the second payment this month and since I already was required to pay all late fees and other charges to keep my power on this month, it should leave a remainder of just over $74 that I owe, and no additional $5 late charges until after tomorrow. But they have a remainder due that is $10 higher than what I should owe with no justification for the extra $10. In addition, my late fee should be less than $5, as they sent out a notice a little over two years ago about a change to the late fee system that if I remember correctly made it something like 3% of the total bill with a minimum of $3. I think it was actually a lower percentage, but at the time I remember doing the math and on most months if I was overdue it should have brought my late fees down. I do not remember ever getting notification they were going back to a flat $5 fee. With my recent experiences with this company, it has become completely clear to me that they are the very model of a heartless corporate machine, and these overpaid fat cats are SUPPOSED to be running their whole business as a Non-profit. UPDATE: Changed from 1 to 2 stars after a little time to simmer down, but my experience over-all hasn't ever been better than 2 stars... I'd say most of the time they are 3 stars but they definitely have their 1 star moments. read more

I'll never forgive this company. While we were not home they entered our gated back yard, knocking over a secondary fence we had set up so that our cat could not get out. After not realizing the side of the house fence was knocked over our cat got out one morning and got hit by a car. I should have checked, but never knew someone had even entered our yard. The only way I knew was because our neighbor showed us what their security camera caught. They left the secondary fence up against the house, so they knew it was there. I'll never forget finding my baby on the side of the road... Do better EWeb. Get permission to enter someone's yard if there are multiple fenses up!! And if they aren't home RESCHEDULE. Our home is experiencing many more outages than in the past and each one takes longer to resolve. The new website is terrible. The navigation and layout makes no sense, it isn't optimized for mobile use, and I could not add my preferred billing method because the billing address for the payment method does not match the site address. I'm sure no one ever uses P.O. Boxes for payment addresses. *Eyeroll* Smart Meters have done NOTHING for customers, because we can't access our usage until end of the billing cycle, anyway. Eweb is a horrible organization. Probably the worst elected organization in the state. They don't have a problem turning off people's power in the middle of this pandemic, especially on children! There was a guy complaining on eweb's Facebook page a week ago saying they turned off his dad who's on oxygen!!! They lied to the county, when I had the county call them and set up a payment plan... they told the county that I wasn't due to be shut off until February 4th, and then they call me up 3 days later (Jan 22nd) and demand $100 or they're going to turn my power off. This was after they sent me a bill on December 16th stating that I owed them $255, and then somehow the bill goes up to $1,170 on January 6th... #WTF??!! I don't know who's running this organization, but they're running it mob style, strong arming their constituents into giving them dollar bills... this is not the activity that we expect out of an elected organization in our state and you have a responsibility to the most vulnerable constituents of this city. I don't know how this organization thinks that they are acting in "good faith", as an elected organization is expected to, by turning off the power on constituents during a viral pandemic?! Eweb is the worse company I have ever spoken to. They are nothing but crooks! I feel so bad for people in Eugene that have to deal with them! I spoke to a representative today trying to help my friend who just bought a home named Steven. Steven said he has been there two years. One he didn't know the basic laws of the billing, two he kept putting me on hold because he didn't know his own job, three he was sarcastic, rude, and very unprofessional. You would think they would train their reps to know how to handle basic questions without being sarcastic jerks. However since Eweb owns Eugene and there are no other electric services for these poor people they know they can treat the callers like shit. I hope with the growth of Eugene they get another company that these people can turn to. Instead of Eweb owning the monopoly. I will definitely be escalating this to the next level. Classist/regressive $5 late fees for being 10 days late. $20 shut off notices if you're over 6 weeks late. Of course, if the entire neighborhoods power goes out for an extended period and all your food spoils they won't replace that. In comparison, other local utility companies such as sanipac don't charge late fees and give you free final shut off notices as well as friendly email reminders. EWEB is "Non profit" the same way collage football is non profit. If they make people pay more than they should they get to raise their wages, so that's exactly what they do. read more

I could never reach them over the phone. Did not send me my last bill for two months, then I received a "final notice" with a 30$ penalty tacked on. Have been on hold 25 min. I had previously tried to reach out as I realized that I should have gotten a final bill, but after waiting on hold more than 15 min each time, I would give up. Still on hold today. Your POS system has an error and it still takes money out of my bank account, yet Bank of America which handles your transaction has the money which means it is out of my hands. 7th-generation Oregonian & 6-generation Portlander here. EWEB (power, water, & sewer: averaging me about $200/mo. combined) costs about 63% of my combined PGE, PWB & PBS cost in Portland (electric: @$150/mo., water: @$55/mo. & sewer: @$115/mo.). EWEB was never owned by a criminal out-of-state interest like ENRON (unlike PGE). EWEB owns power production facilities, and NONE of them run on COAL (unlike PGE). EWEB provides friendly, prompt, personable service. They accommodate requests ("could I pay my bill two weeks from now?"). Their personelle want to help you the very best they can. They are NOT the hateful respondents of the Portland Water Bureau, who can only be troubled to bill you quarterly (for sewer and water combined, $700+ at a go), and charge extra for human interaction and debit transactions. And extra for monthly billing. (I will concede, PGE is willing and able to help.) EWEB is a blessing and a gift compared to PGE in Portland (and all of the northern Willa. Vlly.), and a godsend compared to the water and sewer providers for the city of Portland. Anyone complaining simply lacks perspective and has no clue how good we have it here in our own corner of paradise. My hat's-off to the EWEB crews and tellers for wowing me time and again, to their management teams for keeping them happy, and to the executive team for encouraging a company-culture of assistance and accommodation. Also, a nod to the folks of Eugene for moulding this group into a well-functioning (if heavily-critiqued) public service. read more

The most expensive electricity cost I have ever seen in the United States. I have lived all over the country, including Los Angeles, and never have I ever had to fork over 60% of my income to heat my house during winter. They are literally starving me to death with this $530 monthly bill for only TWO PEOPLE that are at work all day. I even had my appliances inspected by a professional to make sure they were working properly because I was so appalled and shocked by how high my bill always is. It's definitely your insane prices. You guys really suck. You are thieves taking advantage of a community of students and blue collar workers that don't make a lot of money compared to high-income states like California and New York.. I can't believe that there are no reviews posted here of the #1 most-hated company in Eugene! Seems a little... suspect. Anyhow, let me be the first to say that for almost 20 years that I have been dealing with EWEB's billing office, I have never, ever, been anything but enraged and frustrated at their demeanor and tactics. They are 100% completely merciless. I'm not exaggerating. The people they hire to perform "customer care" are without mercy and show no signs that they have the capacity for empathy and even seem to delight in the misfortune of others. Turning off the heat in the dead of winter with a house full of children is a common occurrence. They are not only cruel, but they act like they are disgusted by your very presence! If you are late with your payments, the next time you move and need to restart up service, they will require you to come up with a deposit equal to twice your highest bill-- even though there is no risk on their part whatsoever! No doubt, they then use that money to invest and pocket the proceeds into their already overstuffed coffers. It's no wonder they spend a fortune in marketing. They know what they do is wrong and unethical. But instead of changing their ways, they try to convince their customers (who know better, of course) that EWEB is the exact opposite; they CARE about COMMUNITY and are here for US! I work in software design. If I designed a billing system like the one EWEB uses for a client I would expect to have a lawsuit filed against me. An if I didn't I would distance myself from a company with management incompetent enough to move forward with such an awful system. I have been double charged, overcharged, misinformed, and outright lied to about my current balance. I pay on time ever month without fail. Setting automatic payments has been one of the most difficult bill paying experiences of my life. Their complete inability to keep a single listed balance for an account is unbelievable. There is the balance on the online system, the balance on your bill, and the actual balance on your account. At any given moment these could be three different things. Guess which one the auto payment uses? Seriously, guess. Because nobody there can tell me. I am being charged extra money for their completely incompetent system. I have never missed a payment. My bill isn't even expensive. Worst billing and customer service I have ever encountered. I would rather deal with Comcast. Set up services for an apartment only to find that when I tried logging in a month later to pay my bill my account literally didn't even exist, and it wouldn't let me pay anything as a guest. Submit a contact form that says they will get back to me in two business days annnd it's been four. So I'm just sitting in an apartment panicking about my credit score plummeting and racking up late charges and I can do nothing to stop it. Fun! read more

EWEB lady came by to check the meter in my backyard a few minutes ago. I noticed her by chance as I was in the kitchen. Just to be sure she locked up, I checked the yard gate and sure enough, she had managed to figure out how our crappy gate opens and closes and she closed it the way we like it. Took her a few minutes to get it (it's harder to close from the outside than from inside the yard) and I appreciate her efforts and attention to detail in this simple matter! My dog gets a 1/5 for not noticing she was around until after she was leaving the property. read more

Horrible, rude customer service!!! My mother passed away and I am her executor. I was just trying to get the bill paid and was told not to pay it, that the bill would be sent to me from now on. The bill was finally sent to me and had late fees added, and I was called a liar when I called back because "they would never tell me not to pay.' He said that the only thing in his notes was that I was 'difficult' (even if true, that's terrible business practice). I suggested that they listen to the recording of my call and call me back. The guy who called me 'almost' apologized and said I was right. I paid the bill minus the late fees as i was told, then I got the next months bill - which I also paid. Both payments were processed. Then today I get a pink slip notice for the first bill, which was paid over a week ago. After checking I was told that I had a different account than my mom (it was the same address). Lame excuse, but parting note was that my payment crossed in the mail with the pink slip notice. Liar, liar, pants on fire. It takes one day to get mail from Eugene to Roseburg. No apology, insincere or not. These people are the worst 'customer service' representatives I have ever dealt with. They are 'difficult', inefficient and rude. read more

I was behind a Eweb truck that had small rocks and gravel last week. Two rock flew out of the truck and hit my windshield and cracked the glass. I wrote down the license plate, the time and location. I reported it to Gene W. at Eweb, he said would speak with the driver and get back to me in a few days. A week later and I heard nothing back from him so I call him back. I just heard back from someone else and was told that it was not the fault of their truck and it must have been a road hazard, I was furious. I told her that the truck was over loaded with rocks and she held to her story. Watch out people if you ever see an Eweb truck!!! If I could have gotten away from the truck in the first place, I would have. However, there was no place for me to go on the road at that time. They should be ashamed of themselves, it's the principal of the enire thing that I am made about, take responsibility for your property and the damage it causes. read more

The punishments never stopped when I got caught up with a behind bill that I had been paying off in good faith with full communication. I don't understand why you are doing this to me nor why you should be able to get away with it. I can't believe the new rate proposal for next year. The more you use, the less you pay. Is that upside down, twisted and backwards or what? The first to review this conglomerate says they pay their employees $110,000./year and do not hesitate to yank service from the poor with a house full of children in the dead of Winter. Disgusting and criminal. 100% disabled veterans do not get paid half that much. Can you imagine what they must pay the management? December 1 their having a public meeting, I'm sure that they'll get an ear full then. They should all be fired and their jobs given to American's with compassion and decency. It appears that some large consumers of electricity have already paid their bribes while the Again, mom and pop businesses get another slam by corporate fascism. I'm new to Eugene and cannot understand why the city doesn't make these profits. And the waste disposal should be owned by the city too. As it is, there are 3 waste disposal companies in Eugene resulting in a constant curbside eyesore. I am from a city that owns the water, electric, cable TV, internet, sewer and waste disposal. That city has recently built new fire stations and a huge community center. That has 3 olympic size swimming pools, multiple basketball courts, facilities for every sport imaginable, conference rooms, classes of all kinds for every age group, and it's all free to everyone in the city. It appears there are some overpaid underqualified people managing the city of Eugene. How can EWEB expect to make a profit paying those kinds of wages? And, they reduced their employees health insurance, as if they're broke. It appears that an investigation should be in order with a new huge consumer opening their doors. Suddenly the more that you use, the less you pay. A new proposal to squeeze more profits out of the citizens that are the poorest. read more
