I order from this company on 01/15, mind you I have been a loyal customer for over 10+ years. They blamed me for apparently putting the wrong address, when I entered into their system correctly. UPS couldn't deliver it, and now can't return it to the actual business. This is not my first purchase but it will be my last. My most recent purchase was on 11/28/2025. ETAE did not have a Black Friday sale yet today is 1/04/2026 and I have not received my order. I've sent multiple emails, tried to chat and never received a response. There were no shipping details for my order which was very concerning. 12/28/2025 I requested a refund through PayPal and only then was my order pushed to shipping and due to be received on 1/7/2026. The same thing happened the previous time I ordered only difference was ETAE actually had a Black Friday sale, so I decided to try again. Today's experience was one of the worst that I've ever had at a salon. I have come to this salon quite a few times and I have even referred people based on my past experiences. However, today I felt like I was in a beauty school versus salon. The girl that shampooed and blow"dried" my hair did not have a clue. When she combed out my hair with the conditioner in it, so much of my hair was pulled out because of her poor technique. The blow drying process was torturous. I was close to telling her to hand over the dryer so that I could just do it myself. My head is sore from her rough tug through my hair over and over and my hair still looks like I just waved a dryer over top of it. The stylist had to completely blowdry my hair again before styling. Extremely poor customer service and business acumen!!! I purchased a styling tool from their website and after several days when the order had not shipped, I requested a cancellation and refund of payment. They ignored my request and shipped the item, and of course it did not arrive in time for when it was needed. I shipped the unopened package back, which tracking information confirms that it was delivered on 03/06/2023. To date, this business has not responded to any of the many emails that have been sent and at this point, I view this as theft. Although I previously supported this business by purchasing the entire hair kit (shampoo, conditioner, carmel treatment, hair food, buttershine), which ultimately did not give the results that were expected (as indicated in their marketing), leaving me somewhat disappointed, I still decided to make the most recent purchase based entirely upon supporting a small black owned business. I regret that decision now and wish I had read the reviews before I immediately went to their website, before searching any of the big box stores for the styling tool that was needed. I am updating my review; because the price for a Caramel treatment is ridiculously high in the shop! Therefore, I was able to purchase these products at several hair shops independently. However, after using the products, they were too drying to my hair. I realized that tea tree oil was in one of the products; which is treated for dandruff, but drying to the hair. Although, the other natural ingredients were good, I was able to create my own recipe, and have a much better outcome. The stylists are very good with styling the hair. However, there needs to be more concern for "hair care" as well. Stylists should suggest when a trim needs to be done, or make suggestions on whether or not the hair is damaged, and what products should be used to maintain the hair, etc. read more

Well needless to say, another disappointment. Why is there no salon in Philadelphia that actually cares for your hair? I have mid back length hair that is very thick in parts. My hair is also natural, no relaxer, dyes or chemicals. The only thing I put in my hair regularly is leave in conditioner and eco-styler gel. Unfortunately, I have been to my share of salons in Philadelphia and have discovered that there is one similarity amongst all of them. None of them do any sort of hair care for African American women's hair. As for E'TAE, this place should really be ashamed of themselves. They tout haircare and natural hair jargon but perform their services like any other Philly hot mess hair salon. The only difference is: good looking and fancy salon with beverages and snacks. In the meanwhile, they tugging and ripping your hair out with every tool imaginable. The price alone is worth a whole paragraph! For double the price of the infamous, burn your hair out Dominican salons, your hair will get triple burned. Ok. So after eyeing this place and its products for quite some time now, I decided to check it out since the salon is so close to home. I made my appointment with no problem over the phone. Upon entry, I was greeted by a lady at the front desk. The decor is very modern, and very clean. I liked it. She lady at the front desk asked me was it my first time there, I replied and she handed me a clipboard for me to fill out with my personal info. After that, I was led into the salon and given a smock to wear. I was then given a quick tour, and was told where to sit. About 15 minutes into my wait, the salon manager comes to me and apologizes for the wait. She then explains to me that they were having an issue with the water heater, and they were just waiting for the water to warm back up. 15 minutes later, a total of 30 minutes later I was seated at the shampoo station. No biggie. I wasn't in a rush. I was given the carmel treatment, and moved to a different chair to let it sit. An hour and a half later, I was still sitting amongst other clients. The staff were all in the back room. The salon manager then comes out and apologizes for the wait. She explains to us that the water has gone completely cold, and it was up to us if we wanted to stay and receive services with cold water, or we could leave and come back another day. I chose the stay, because my hair was already wet, and already treated with the carmel conditioner. This was about 2.5 hours into my visit. I still was not upset, because I understand the matter was out of their hands. All the clients that chose to stay were then given a waiver to sign stating that we knew the water was cold, and opted to proceed with the services. That water was cold. Lol. But after that everything ran smoothly. I was blow dried quickly, sat under the dryer, and moved to see a stylist in a timely manner. I received the signature treatment, plus a trim. My hair was styled so quickly. If the wait wasn't as long, I would have given 5 stars. But the customer service from the salon manager was great. She gave information as she got it, and kept us in the loop. The salon covered my costs for my visit due to the inconvenience, which is amazing. I will definitely return here for future visits. The amount of heat and aggressive wash and blow dry techniques will leave you with your head throbbing. Moreover, it's a bunch a teens gossiping that were working .. not that i care about that, but i felt unengaged . The wait wasn't too bad considering i was a walk in. I spent $77. I am fully natural and I have "0" heat damage. The salon advertises themselves as "natural hair" silk press gurus, so I was excited to get a silk press and a trim. My main purpose was to get an even trim. The salon entrance and hospitality was nice and receptive. I filled out a paper that basically asked about my hair and myself. I thought this would aid the stylists in styling my hair (it did not, you'll see). The bathroom was nice. I was called over after 5 minutes to have my hair washed. The washer was nice the entire time and they seemed young. First, she applied the caramel treatment. It definitely smelled like caramel, which was a pleasant scent. They did NOT DETANGLE my hair when applying the caramel treatment. I was confused because they, again, claimed they were natural hair stylists. The caramel sat on my hair for 20 minutes without heat. The washer rinsed and applied shampoo twice. The shampoo was pleasant and did not have a strong smell, which is good. She placed the conditioner in my hair and RUBBED IT AROUND MY SCALP. UMMMM hello, where was the detangling? Like it's 2018, we detangle natural hair when we apply conditioner. Not only that, the conditioner was on my head for 5 minutes. It could not even do it's job. She then told me to sit in the chair to be blow dried. I looked at my hair in the mirror like "What in the world?!" It was dryer than the Sahara desert, like no one there knows how to treat natural hair. It gets worse, she did NOT USE A HEAT PROTECTANT. She was constantly pulling my ends and my hair, struggling with my hair. I was screaming my head debating WHY I was even putting up with it. She then put my hair in 2 loose low buns with pins and sat me under the dryer to dry for 20 minutes. AT THAT POINT, I SHOULD HAVE WALKED OUT, but I did not want to be rude and I thought they had a method to their system. The videos on Instagram look like they moisturize hair, so I was thinking something is coming. The stylist called me over and she asked what I wanted. I said an even trim and a silk press. The entire time she used a fine tooth comb to comb through my DRY NATURAL HAIR. AGAIN, THIS IS 2018, WHAT IS YA'LL DOING???? My ends were definitely tortured and ripped this day and I'm very upset. The stylist next to me was cutting someone else's hair and it looked so choppy, scaring me for what was to come for me. My stylist began to flat iron my whole head WITHOUT PRODUCT. My hair was being flat ironed WITHOUT MOISTURE. Ugh I could not believe I was even in that predicament. When I flat iron at home, I apply a heat protectant and light oil for moisture. Afterwards, She applied their pomade, FINALLY, and trimmed my hair. The trim was okay. I asked if all the bad ends were gone, she said it was still some in the back. Like huh, why leave damaged ends? I just said "Can you please take it off?" and she did just a little. Afterwards, she flat ironed my hair one more time and told me I need to take "better care of my hair." UMMM my hair is very moisturized and well taken care of in its natural state. IDK what kind of "natural hair care" ya'll have going on in there sis, but this ain't it. I have been dying to visit this salon for years. I have friends that are clients and rave about it, but since I don't live in the Philadelphia area it's never really been an option. You can order the products online, but I didn't want to do it without testing the products first. Booking my appointment was simple and easy. I called on the phone and a receptionist was able to provide me with a date and time that worked and immediately texted me the confirmation of that information when I hung up. (Keep in mind they are closed on Mondays). Leading up to the date of my appointment I got reminder texts which I think is great. I was coming from Virginia and it was my first time here so I left extra time to find the salon, which was a little tricky. The plaza is very large and the salon is actually located in the back, across from a fresh grocer. A little more description of that in their texts/website could be helpful since the gps only brings you into the middle of the plaza. However, the parking lot is great, lots of spots. I entered the salon about 12:45 and my appointment was at 1. The building is very modern, white, clean and beautiful. The receptionists were extremely friendly, checked me in, and immediately took me into the salon. They introduced me to Gina, the salon manager I believe, who helped me put on a client vest to keep my clothes clean. She offered me a beverage and snack and gave me a new client form to fill out. I love that they have a little snack bar section. I filled out my form and waited to be treated with the Carmel deep conditioning treatment ($12). While waiting another salon employee and the owner's daughter came around and informed clients that cbs 3 news station was there doing a segment/interview. Clients that were willing to possibly be caught on camera needed to sign a waiver. After that Quan a stylist wet and detangled my hair and then applied the Carmel treatment. I waited in a waiting area for about 20/30 minutes, during that time the owner came in with the news crew and were giving a tour/interview. It was quite entertaining and fun to watch. However, there are tv and wifi for your entertainment otherwise. Then Kirby washed my hair out. She asked about my scalp and applied a nutrient to help the dryness and massaged and washed my hair so well I could have cried from joy. I waited about 5 more minutes and another stylist Lauren blow dried my hair, which was a soft and smooth as butter! After, she placed me under the hooded dryer for about 20 minutes. As soon as that was done Gina came over and ushered me to the couches to wait for a stylist to finish my hair. I waited another 5 minutes and Quan called me over to her chair. She asked how I wanted it styled. I got a trim and my hair curled. She was very professional and friendly. Interacting and conversing with me throughout but not constantly. It was a nice medium and never awkward. My curls were a little tight but that was fine with me since they would drop throughout the day. In the end Gina checked me out and I was relieved and happy to hear that I could leave a tip with my card. She adds on the amount that you would like to tip to your total. Then on small envelopes you she divides that tip to give to whichever stylists and assistants you choose. My services totaled to $77, which is a little pricey but I think it's worth it considering the overall experience and timeliness. Carmel treatment was $12, trim was $10, and the styling was $55. I spent just about 2 hours there, but was never waiting for more than 5-10 minutes for someone to be working on my hair. There are also nice pamphlets around the salon that you can read which explain the prices, about the treatments, the salon, wifi, and even a number you can text while in the salon if you have a question or concern while all the stylist are busy. I also purchased the products used that day in the front store. You get a 25% discount since you received hair services that day. Overall, I'm very happy with my experience and that I went. I will be making another appointment with them in the future when I am in the Philadelphia area. read more

I went to E'tae a year ago for my yearly straightening session. I was lured there by all the good things I'd heard about their product line. When I first arrived, I was disappointed to see that all of the stylists except one had their hair tied up in scarves - EXTREMELY unprofessional AND tacky! I was taken to the back of the basement room to get my hair combed out and washed. This is probably when I should have gotten up and left. The shampoo girl asked me to comb out my own hair before she would wash it! Now, I do have a decently thick head of natural hair that could be daunting to an inexperienced shampoo girl, but there's no excuse for me being asked to perform services on myself! Apparently, I was out of my mind because I obliged her request. After I finished, the shampoo girl put my hair in sections and took me to the wash bowl. Some VERY herbal-smelling liquids were poured over my head and massaged into my scalp. Rinse. Repeat. I was then transferred in a chair to get my hair blow dried. The stylist who was going to be straightening my hair came over and started in on my head. She started out nicely, asking me how I cared for my hair, what products I used, etc. I thought this was just a friendly convo, but I was DEAD WRONG! She immediately began attacking everything I chose to do to my hair, telling me that my hair was badly damaged, and I had NO CLUE what I was doing and only experts, like her, ever have any business laying hands upon my head. See, now I was pissed because I have educated myself pretty well on hair care since I very rarely frequent salons and I knew for a FACT that my hair was nowhere near damaged! So, a rather loud war of words ensued, which resulted in me calmly getting up, ripping off my cape, and heading toward the door. I was accosted by the receptionist and another stylist before I could reach the stairs. They insisted I had to pay for the services I'd received before I left. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out what those services could have possibly been. I emphatically told them I would NOT be paying for ANYTHING, but still they insisted. I asked to speak to the owner. The stylist who had insulted my mane sprinted up the stairs (I guess so she could tell her side). She returned shortly, stating that the owner would not speak to me and requested that I leave immediately. I gladly obliged and did not look back. I beg of you ladies, DO NOT go to E'tae! Then I just asked if they have anyone available on a specified day and time. She simply said, "No we are booked". So, I will never know what the next available appointment...I just ended the call with "ok, and thank you". This is not based off the salon. The new location is in the back of Cedarbrook Plaza across from Fresh Grocer (the old Pathmark). The new shop looks amazing, it's literally the most attractive place in that mall. Pros Professional & Courtesy - Extremely professional, acknowledged me when I walked in the door, escorted me to the salon, helped me put my coat away and pocketbook in a locker (with a key/I was glad I didn't have to tote it around with me) each woman I encountered came off very genuine and respectful. Customer Service - You feel like your being catered to. Ambience - It looks upscale, elegant with a Spa feel(relaxing) Complimentary snacks & drinks (Coffee, Tea (hot or cold), Water & munchies) Rate of service - As soon as you come in your seated in the wash area, in an assembly fashion. Cons No Pinning - My stylist informed me that they no longer pin up your hair b/c it became too time consuming. I can understand that but I want my curls to last longer then the night I have them done. Since it was raining last night and I was on the bus she wrapped my hair for me Greatly appreciated! Aside from the price I like the salon, this being my 2nd time coming here I'm not really complaining. They only use E'tae products, which I LOVE but honestly its too hard to find in my neighborhood, so I always buy Shea Moisture products. My hair feels and looks amazing; but I only go to E'tae as a treat to myself it's too far to go every two weeks with my current schedule. I have been a long time customer of Salon Etae for some over a year now. Today I contacted the receptionist to make an appointment with my stylist and was surprised to hear, "well you can request her when you arrive". I said, huh what do you mean? She explained whomever is available at your appointment time is whom you will see. I am sure every stylist is great but when you are accustomed to a particular person doing your hair, as a paying customer you should have the right to pick the same person to style your hair. I am going to keep my appointment and see how this new process works. If I am unable to see one of two of the stylists I am accustomed to, I will have to locate another hair salon. My rating is a little lower here mainly because the stylist that I had did not listen to what I asked for and cut more hair than I anticipated but with the emotions of lost hair length out the rest of the review is as objective as can be. I got the caramel treatment. I found that for my hair which is the type that you should apply a relaxer to every 4 months or so, this deep conditioner was a good treatment which seemed to nourish the roots of my hair and make it even more manageable. Your stylist will also use the old school ceramic curling irons that go into the ceramic oven and I find that if you use those things, with or without a perm, you are going to come out of it straight!!!! My hair was shinier than when I wash it and condition it with my other products but not more shiny than when I use my Chi iron and product. I also found that this treatment did not seem to last more than a few days before I needed to return to get the roots all smoothed out again...seemingly faster than previously experienced in my life. I purchased the buttershine and the soy protein product that they also sell and have found them to be good on the hair. I will probably be a person who uses the Etae products but who continues to get relaxers and use Creme of nature as my shampoo without sulfates. The salon itself is well staffed, clean, and the service is speedy...an accomplishment that many other salons in the area do not have yet mastered. Kudos. SO...the biggest recommendation that I can say is that you will want to be clear with your stylist and ensure that she will do what you are asking and not have a "holier than thou attitude" or the disposition that she will do whatever SHE feels you need because YOU do not know your own head! Good products especially if you do not process your hair in any way. It is addictive as you will find that you need to return weekly to maintain the coiuffe. But then, isn't E'tae just Eat -E backwards? A recommendation to all of us to increase out vitamin E intake as it helps the hair lots!!! read more

I haven't had a relaxer in 5 years and I wish I would have known about this place throughout my transition. I couldn't had asked for a better experience and my hair feels and looks awesome. I had my hair washed, conditioned and flat ironed by Quan. Long story short, my hair is beautiful, but if you want to read on please continue :) I went on an "off" day during inclement weather so I wouldn't have a long wait. My experience was perfect! I've been a customer of E'TAE now for almost a year. The salon is absolutely beautiful and the products work wonders on my natural hair! I drive over an hour to have the 'E'TAE' experience and my first few visits were great. The last couple of times when I went I was extremely disappointed.... I decided to call Customer Service and tell them about my experience and they were very apologetic and helpful. My personal opinion is as with many places they start off with excellent service but as time goes by, things start getting comfortable and unfortunately some aspects of a great Salon Experience get mediocre.... The things I have the most problems with is: 1. It would be nice to have the same person who puts the Carmel in would also wash and blow dry your hair instead of two people. You then have another person 'the stylist' which now makes three different people in your hair. 2. It absolutely makes me wanna scream when they are pulling your hair after putting the conditioner in! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, teach these girls to part and section your hair and start detangling from the ends upward instead of holding a section of hair and pulling through it! (That's what all the videos show.... )The same goes with the blow dryer! I'm at the point now of just telling the person who shampoos to just give me the comb and I'll do it myself. I really wanna love and keep supporting this place because I love the products so maybe the girls just need better training??? They all seem to be very nice young ladies and are polite but I don't wanna keep driving over an hour to get here to have my hair mistreated.... They are out of control to dismiss all negative reviews and are 100% in denial about how dangerous this product could be for some. My hair came out in huge patches all over my head. And now that I shared this on their FB page they have blocked me. I was told by plenty they block anyone that gives them a negative review. I ordered a whole set from them, which included the shampoo, conditioner, pre-conditioning treatment, and a moisturizer. The honey pre-conditioner or whatever it is was completely awful. It left a bunch of gook in my hair that not even the shampoo could take out. The whole bundle cost me like 70+ dollars and I wish I never brought it. I've ordered their products online about 6 times as I really liked them, I haven't purchased anything in a while because I stopped straightening my hair. I decided to try their newest product for hair growth, I placed my order and waited for delivery. About a week later I received notice my order was delivered. I got home and looked for it and was unable to find it. I checked the delivery info from the USPS and it said "delivery to garage", my first thought was that's not possible, but I looked anyway. My building is secure and you can not access it without a key, so it's almost impossible to get in, and why would the Post Office deliver something in the "garage" when they have a key to my mailbox??? It makes not sense. I contacted E'tae via their Customer Service Chat and explained the situation hoping to get my product redelivered. I asked did they put my unit number on the package, trying to figure out why it would be delivered to the garage, they told me yes my unit number was on the package. Their website clearly states "they are responsible for packages lost with the correct address"... CLEARLY!! I've been chasing them for three weeks trying to get my product or my money refunded. The $40.00 that I paid for this product is not the issue, as someone who has supported your business you would think a returning customer would be a priority. But I'm super petty! I don't like getting screwed over and that's what they're doing, I paid in good faith and I want my money back, not because I need it but because they choose not to do the right thing. So not only will they be paying me my $40 they're be coughing up court cost as well. So, think twice ladies before you purchase from this company, there is no customer loyalty here. I'm all about supporting Black owned businesses but this one will never get another dime from me. Peace! read more

This 2 stars are giving not because of the establishment, it was clean, bright & a gorgeous place all together. The employees are pretty much attentive to your needs. But.........THIS IS WHY.........I set in (KIRBY's) chair and she asked "eew" what do you have a perm(is this place not for natural hair) I then stated no"not for years" She proceeds to press my hair and I'm feeling heat- real heat as she then pokes me in my ear w a hair clip (never apologizing) I'm now fighting to control myself as she asked to trim (what was I thinking) chick already seemed off. Yes I say. Well after getting burned, poked and to go home and find I have a hair CUT n not a trim. TO SAY THE LEAST MY HAIR HAS BEEN IN A SCARF SINCE I HAVE PAID $77 to be butchered! NO curl NO bounce No shine! My hair was laying on my shoulders. Oh I did speak with the manager( GLORIA) whom was to return my call end of business day-NOTHING! WARNING Don't get "TRIMMED"! Due to the pandemic I had to order my shampoo and conditioner. I ordered and paid for my products on April 24th 2020. I have yet to receive my product it is May 28th. A shipping label was created on May 23rd, but still has not been shipped. Meaning Etae hasn't even taken the product to the post office. Keep in mind i live less than 10 minutes away from the store. I have emailed several times and only got one response saying it will be shipped. I understand it is a pandemic, but this is just bad business. I am very frustrated and disappointed . At this point I want a refund. Honestly ,I don't think they would even care how I felt. This could have been dropped off on my porch. If someone has any other way I can get in contact with Etae, please let me know. read more

Had an appointment at 11am on a Thursday. As someone not from the area, it wasn't easy to find since my GPS took me into the middle of Cedarbrooke plaza near Walmart. However, the salon is essentially behind the main plaza (across from the fresh grocer). I was 17 mins late but they weren't rude about it when I came in. I filled out my client form since I was a first timer. At one point during my visit the salon was extremely busy, every single chair was full. Based on how many clip boards were out, I could tell most of the people there were also first timers. I got in the shampoo chair at 11:30. Assistant Chrissy rinsed and detangled my hair and put the Carmel treatment in. I was out of the chair at 11:50. Back in the shampoo chair at 12:25. Nichelle washed and blow dried my hair. Under hooded dryer at 12:55. I'm guessing the dryer was on a timer because it turned off exactly after 10 mins at 1:05. I sat there until 1:30 and the manager Gina came around and told me to go sit on the couch until someone was available to style my hair. Around 1:35, the stylist Kirby told me to come sit in her chair. She hooked me up! I was nervous because she blow dried my hair more before starting. She pressed my hair with the flat iron with one pass, blow dried it quickly to straighten it a little more and then trimmed it. Then she styled my hair with curls. I love it! I do wish they used a little holding spray (I came on a very windy day). The total cost was $77, not including tip, so I will say this salon is on the pricey side. The manager Gina checked me out. Also as an FYI , you can tip on your card and the person checking you out writes down how you want to distribute the tip. Although pricey, it was very worth it. I would've given 5 stars if I wasn't so pricey. I think I left the salon around 2:40pm. I haven't had my hair flat ironed for over 8 months so I was really nervous about my visit. However, I was extremely pleased with the results. I visited the salon about 2 weeks ago, however as a victim of heat damage in the past, I waited until I washed my hair to make sure it curled back up before I wrote this review. read more

The place is very nice inside!!! They should definitely work on the customer service though. The young woman that did my hair was so busy talking to some other woman instead of engaging with me. Whenever I would ask anything I wouldn't get much of a response. They need to get some older women working in there. But my hair came out ok. I went back in March. The products are good, but I was really frustrated with the way that the first stylist blow-dried my hair. She didn't divide it into sections and she was literally stabbing at it with the comb attachment, and roughly dragging it through. This is how you cause breakage. I don't know if all of the stylists do that, but that does not seem like safe natural-hair care. She also kept asking me to check whether my roots were dry... I've never had a stylist ask me that before - A) Shouldn't you be able to tell, and B) isn't that your job? Natural hair is fragile and I didn't spend all this time growing it out so that some third party can mess it up. Ultimately, my hair looked decent when it was finished, but there is no doubt in my mind that her styling technique contributed to thinning ends. In conclusion, I wasn't impressed and I will never go back. I'm not opposed to buying the deep treatment online or at a beauty supply store. read more

I have yet to experience the salon but i LOVE their products. I first saw them on IG and decided to purchase last thanks giving and let me tell you i have not been disappointed. My hair is softer and more manageable after using the full system. The peoducts are worth the cost and they have sales 2-3 times a year. I recently visited this salon to get my hair straightened and trimmed (I am a black female who wears her hair in its natural state). So to get to the point: I would definitely go back here. It's a small salon, there was one person washing hair and the owner was the only one styling hair. Even then, they move quickly. I was in and out within 3 hours, which is astounding to me because my hair is longish and THICK...plus, I hadn't gotten it straightened/trimmed in about a year and a half so there was a lot of work to be done. I was expecting to be there for at least 5 hours, especially since I went in on a Friday. She does sell her products in the salon and also uses them on her clients. I got the caramel treatment and my hair was ridiculously SOFT and SHINY. It stayed that way for days after and I got so many compliments on my hair. It was $12 for the treatment, which is a little pricey when you consider the fact that you could just purchase a bottle of the stuff and get way more for the price. Once I'm done using up the many hair products I have littering my bathroom, I'll definitely go back to buy the caramel treatment. The last time I got my hair straightened, I suffered from some damage because the woman who did my hair not only used a flat iron, but also used a pressing comb. I was adamant about not having a pressing comb touch my hair again and was relieved when I found out that this salon (well, at least the owner) only uses a flat iron. The true test came when I finally washed my hair and all of my little curls and coils came right back to life. I have to add that I've been reluctant about letting random people cut my hair. I had been trying to grow my hair out for years and it always stayed the same length....so I was worried that getting a trim here would turn into a hair cut. I was expecting to have to get about 1 to 1.5 inches cut off and was ready to get the hell up out of there if she tried to cut more. But luckily she is not one of those scissor-happy stylists, she only cut about an inch...and MAN do my ends look and feel so much better. I found the receptionist, wash girl, and owner to be pleasant and polite. Yeah the salon isn't exactly high-end and could use a little interior decorating but it is comfy. Price-wise, I paid close to $100 for a caramel treatment, blow-dry, straightening, and trim. Without the caramel treatment and trim, I would have been in the mid 60's so yes adding on services can be pricey but without the extra stuff, she is reasonably priced. I don't straighten my hair very often (maybe twice a year) but the next time I'm in the mood for straight hair, I will only go back here. read more

This review is regarding their line of products. That Carmel Treatment is the truth! I'm currently transitioning and haven't had a relaxer since January 2016. The shampoo really clarifies your strands, and the conditioner makes it feel like butter. The Butter Shine is great for providing moisture. Just don't use too much or it'll leave your hair feeling greasy and weighed down. If your transitioning or fully natural and looking to straighten your hair every so often, use the entire line. If you're looking for some natural products without straightening, they will still leave your hair looking and feeling healthy. read more

For all you African-American's with natural hair out there. Salon E'tae has this amazing product called Caramel. It is an all-natural treatment made from honey, olive oil and banana, among other things. This stuff infuses you hair with moisture and it helps your hair stay straighter longer or just have softer, frizz-free curls. Girls with perms can also use it to extend the length between their touch ups. I know I sound like an infomercial right now, but this product is that amazing. Just try it. This review is for the "Carmel" deep conditioner, and for E'tae's customer service. (I've never visited the salon). I'd been an avid user of E'tae's original hair care line since high school, and was BEYOND devastated to learn they'd discontinued it for a newer product line. E'tae's carmel conditioner was the SOLE reason I could manage my hair (and IMO, the most important product of the original line). I gave the new line a try, and I'm sorry to say that it just didn't cut it. My hair has been a dry, frizzy, uncooperative mess ever since. Imagine my pleasant surprise when I discovered E'tae had reinstated their Carmel conditioner! I practically bolted to the phone to order in bulk! The woman who took my order was courteous, informative, and extremely professional. I needed the carmel for my birthday hair appointment, but couldn't afford the express shipping. I don't know what miracle that woman worked, but my carmel is here in time for my appointment, AND she saved me money on express shipping! I'd give her a thousand stars for that! Buy the carmel! I haven't been to a hair salon since I did my big chop and have been the only person caring for my hair. I desperately needed a a trim and decided to go to etae, specifically for Caramel treatment. For you naturals I have type 4c hair and it was great for my texture! I was happy with the outcome of my hair. I was really only going to get the Caramel treatment and a trim but I ended up getting a curl too-- which I was happy the stylist convinced me to do it. The atmosphere was relaxed as I went during the week at an early time. The staff was cordial and the shampoo girl did a great job with with treating,shampooing, conditioning and blow drying my hair. The stylist was cordial as well. I enjoyed speaking with her about the condition of my hair and my hair history. I had been very apprehensive to go to a salon because of my not so great experiences of heat damage and bad styling. However, I got through this experience unscathed. The drawbacks are not having a pamphlet to view prices and the prices are steep comparing other similar salons. This is significant factor when choosing a salon. Overall, I was happy to have gotten my hair done. read more
