This is a great place to eat! It is situated along the seafront promenade in Chipiona near the…read morelighthouse and just a little bit above sea level at high tide. It has tables both inside and outside. The view is really beautiful on a nice day but be careful that if you take an outside table near the sea wall around high tide you could get splashed if the waves are bigger than normal. At low tide the algae covered rocks are exposed and produce a wonderful sea fragrance. This is situated right next to one of the "corrales de pesca" (fishing traps) which are basically stone walls with small chink holes for the water to pass through that protrude a way into the sea and have a height that is a bit lower than sea level at high tide. When the tide is high they fill with water at which point fish, squid, octopus, etc. get into them. When the tide goes down the animals are trapped and the locals catch what is there. At night you can see them with lanterns working their way though the rocks bagging the catch. These date from the days of the Romans. The restaurant specializes in seafood and what they offer is excellent. There is always fresh catch to select from: doradas, lubinas, corvinas, etc. A favorite of ours is pez moro which is a dark skinned rock fish that I have only ever encountered at Las Canteras. The meat is very white and delicate with a wonderful flavor. There is also a great selection of fried fish and other sea food such as acedias, pijotas, salmonetes, puntillitas, calamares, etc. If you want to try something different you might try the ortiguillas which are sea anemones. These are deep fried in batter which makes them very crunchy on the outside but very oyster-like on the inside but with a strong sea flavor. You will probably either love them or hate them. I love therm. My wife hates them. Another great dish they offer is tomates a la plancha (grilled tomatoes). Don't be fooled! This is not "just tomatoes". The tomatoes are sliced and grilled with olive oil and spices along with wild asparagus and oyster mushrooms. It is absolutely delicious and unexpectedly filling. The staff are very friendly as long as they are not too pressed with a very large number of customers. The place gets mobbed during the summer and they have a very hard time keeping up. We know a few of the waiters by name after having come here over the years and have very pleasant relationships with them. I highly recommend this restaurant.

No Paella here. La Escollera is strictly seafood from what I saw. Because of Escollera's popularity with tourists AND locals alike, it gets busy so have a few things in mind: (1) give your name+last name to the host inside (2) if you can grab a high-top outside, go for it and get a Starter bite while you wait, (3) someone will yell out your last name, then (4) you're in. Attention from all the servers is definitely here and each offered individual tid-bit on what we ordered. Dozen oysters (or "12 pieces") were meaty and juicy with the right amount of oyster liquor. What's more, I know the oysters hubs and I have been getting on the East Coast in the States are good- but these here in Spain's Southern Coast are mind-blowing. Horseradish and mignonette? They're obsolete in these parts. You will get Tabasco as an alternate (for hubs) and some individually-packaged red wine. It did just fine. Prawns were good but the Sardines were excellent with a slightly crunchy-garlicky exterior. The oysters took it a bit over from what we've experienced during our stay. But come to think of it, comparing the quality and straight-from-the-sea catch to the East Coast, they were worth the €54. Skip the juicy-flavored sangria and go for a red or white instead. In essence, it's all about the seafood here.

Best seafood I've ever had!!…read more We arrived mid afternoon and the place was crowded. We put our name on the list but ended up just getting a bar table outside (which has service anyway). We ordered a lot of small plates and everything was fresh, perfectly cooked, and well seasoned. While we usually prefer sautéed seafood, the fried squid was exceptional. Don't miss out on this spot! Right by the water, beautiful view.
