JT is incredibly kind and well-intentioned, but the therapy felt one-dimensional. Sessions largely focused on validating feelings without providing structure, tools, challenge, or actionable guidance - all of which I repeatedly asked for. Given that this therapy was priced at the higher end of what we've seen, we expected a much deeper level of engagement and clinical depth. I consistently expressed that I did not feel understood, and that concern never felt meaningfully explored. The turning point came when JT continued asking the same questions and implied that I wasn't going deep enough. When I asked him to take a different approach and ask more thoughtful probing questions, he responded by asking me what I thought he should ask instead. That felt backwards. If he is the trained professional, I don't believe it should be my responsibility to determine how we get deeper in session. He also seemed dismissive of modalities like the Gottman Method and Nonviolent Communication, as well as the self-work I was doing independently. Despite repeatedly asking for homework or guidance between sessions, none was provided. We were looking for stronger direction and more skill-based, structured work, which is why we chose to move on. We're very happy with our new therapist, who also practices EFT but brings a broader, more versatile approach rather than relying on a singular method.

The work we did together truly changed my life and continues to change my life. Before we worked together I struggled with constant anxiety and depression with major depressive episodes. We built such a strong foundation that, even though my life has continued to throw major challenges at me, instead of falling back into anxiety and depression, I now systematically work through my challenges, finding, refining, and expanding my own inner strength each time. It's always a gift to have her support when things are hard, but it's so much more powerful to know I can be mentally strong and healthy through all of life's challenges without having to rely on any one person or thing.

As cliché as it sounds, I can honestly say that working with Lindsay changed my life. Who am I…read morekidding? With the tools and insight she provided over our 18 months working together, she's continuing to change my life. I sought out counseling services when life felt unbearably bleak, difficult, and dark. I came in, grasping for control and hoping for a quick fix, which in hindsight is utterly laughable. His office is in a building that reminds me of an old school, and it's centrally located and easy to access from the N or R trains. The waiting area is just two chairs outside of Dr. Kennedy's office and another Doctor's office, but the doors are surprisingly sound-proof. I was afraid that people sitting in the waiting room would be able to hear my loud speaking voice, but I realized while sitting there myself, I couldn't hear a thing. It's a decent sized-room with a sofa, in a professional setting and he always has a full box of tissues on the side table. He also has a good online service for you to communicate with him, book/see/cancel appointments and even text message alerts for upcoming appointments, which I appreciate as a busy individual. I'm not completely done with my treatment, but I know that with Dr. Kennedy as my Doctor, I'll be fine. In such a short amount of time, he's helped me tremendously and overall seems like such a genuine person. The doctor/patient relationship quickly feels as comfortable as a friendship. He remembers all of my family/friends' names that I mention during treatment and uses them himself, which makes it feel so much more personal. I definitely recommend Dr. Kennedy. You can't go wrong with him and if you're looking for someone who cares and someone you can really open up to and share everything with, he's the doctor for you.
