The place is really good. Pricey, but worth a try. Great tapas, for sure. The Mexican ice cream seems to be homemade for their sauce and has seeds. I thought it was ok, but I'm notninto Mexican hot chocolate. Just wanted to try the ice cream to see what it would be. The corn was good, and you get a hefty serving for the chips and salsa. Good vibe in the winter to hang out with some friends for sure! Staff was super friendly. They were pretty busy still on a Sunday, so just know they are always busy. The estella kitchen is not open for the public, so you enter into the hotel bar and order there. They do have outdoor seating. But I don't think it's open during the winter. Summertime would he nice. Parking is small, so be ready to park on the street. There seems to be plenty of street parking. Just be careful at night as always.
Love Estella! Their tacos are divine and their cocktails are crafted well with interesting flavors and twists. I love the vibe of the bar. It's a beautiful space adorned with luscious plants and beautiful design touches. Service is great even when they are busy. If you go in the summer, they have the best patio out back with comfy seating!
The street tacos here are just perfect. You walk up and order what you want and they bring it to you as you sit out under the pergola. Everything here is tasty and the salsas are great. A very friendly staff makes the experience so fun. I love the ambiance. You get a great view of the Reno city scape but you feel like you're in a very special serene spot. Just great all around!
We sought out Estella for a date night dinner recently, but overall were left a little confused and unimpressed by the whole experience. It started out a sunny day, but the wind picked up and cooled the temp down. WAY down. We headed to what we *thought* was Estella, but found an empty building beside an empty courtyard. To be fair, the outdoor courtyard is GORGEOUS! Probable one of the prettiest oudoor spaces for dining we've come across in the past few years. But...those cold temps meant everything was moved inside, said a sassy pink-haired server. What she meant was, *moved inside The Jesse*, a edge-of-Midtown uppity bar that was packed and BLARING bad live music. We were lucky to grab a 2-top open, but the place is cramped. We were practically rubbing elbows with the people next to us, and narrowly dodged sitting next to a mom with 2 littles...wha?!?! In a loud bar? M'kay, mom, maybe not the greatest choice for kids' dinner? I know this is Midtown hipster norm, but you don't get service here. You have to place your order at the bar, *leave your card with the bartender like you've opened a tab!* and take a number. "Open seating" is code for "you are your own server". The move indoors meant the mediocre music volume was 3x as loud as it needed to be, so good luck conversing with the person across from you. You'd think they'd adjust the volume for the acoustics of the room, but you'd be wrong. The menu is OK but borders on pretentious. Small tacos for $6/ea up to $12/taco! and Vegas prices on drinks, $15/ea. At the end of your meal, you have to go collect your check and pay at the bar. And a tip? You bet they're asking! For what, I'm not sure! No one bothers to check in and see if you want anything else! This place is definitely not our vibe, and at almost $90 for chips & salsa, some tiny tacos & 2 drinks, we'd likely go just about anywhere else next time for tacos. Midtown has just become an overpriced cash-grab IMO. Vegas prices with SF environment! For that price, it would be nice to actually get some level of service and not have to avoid stepping over homeless to get into the place and wondering if your car gets broken into. Oh, and the "hotel" above The Jesse has rates of just the fabulously low price $189/ni for 2ppl midweek for TINY old rooms!!! This place is MADNESS!!!
Loved their carnitas taco, the steak and the fish. Pass on the mushroom taco. They also have a private parking lot, but you gotta park on the street if it's full.
Came to Estella on a tuesday. We were a little confused on where to go to order food as there really isn't any signs pointing you in any direction. The patio area is super cute though! However, if its not nice enough to sit outside there is little room for seating elsewhere and i can see how it could get cramped inside the Jesse. When we found the building in the back to order from staff was friendly. We ordered chips and guac, elote, 2 carnita tacos, a fish of the day (red snapper), and a smoked oyster mushroom taco. First thing we noticed was how small the guac container was compared to the amount of chips served. Also the tacos themselves were quite small and the size of the tortilla seemed too small for the amount of filling on it. Everything tasted good though I will say some of the items felt like they were a little overpowered some of the flavors with spice(i do not handle spicy too well). So a warning/notice on items that have an extra kick on the menu would have been nice. Overall, the margaritas were very good and the food was okay. But I'd probably just come back for drinks & small bites vs. a full meal due to the size of items and price. We had left still a little hungry after spending $70 for 2 people.
This food was incredible!!! And since it is winter time you order via The Jesse which truly elevated the experience!!! The lobster and mushroom mushrooms were delicious and a HUGE portion, and the bean tostada was even better- with a hint of a spicy kick. The salsa sampler was also incredible - the table favorite was the yellow corn salsa.
Came here for the second time. The food was tasty. Love the mushroom taco, al pastor taco and the fish taco. They ran out of some beef and shrimp when we ordered (Sunday evening), otherwise I could have told you more about those flavors. The taco shells were thick and fulfilling. The elote was flavorful. The chips were okay. The sauce was lacking flavor. The taco here is on the expensive side. The price you see on the menu is for one taco so keep that in mind. The service here is more like self-service. You order food and drinks at the bar and servers don't really check on you after they deliver your order. There is water that you can grab and take to your table. Our friend was waiting for her ice cream order for the entire night and we checked with the bartender twice. Eventually we got the ice cream. Probably because we had a bigger group, they messed up my order but gave me one extra taco that I didn't order for free. This place is a hotel and restaurant combo. The bar and patio are both cute. In summer time, it would be nice to sit outside.
Love this place for tacos and cocktails! It's attached to the Jesse hotel - we sat inside the Jesse this time Kuz it was a bit windy but usually the patio is the perfect happy hour spot!! Did a girls night here and loved it - we had the elote which was so yum see pic! Tacos were pretty good I think we should have ordered more tho I got hungry 2 hours later but maybe Kuz the cricket we ate made me lose my appetite at the time All the tacos had great sauce and great taste, u have to try this place it's a great place to take ppl who r visiting Reno!
Where else in Reno can I get an Elk Chorizo taco?! For me Estella's really unique menu stood out and made for a fun experience right off the bat. I had the smoked oyster mushroom taco and the elk chorizo taco. The mushroom taco had a great depth of flavor, and was somehow light and filling at the same time. The elk chorizo had a great kick and unique flavor, but definitely kind of overtook my palate, so I was glad I ate it second and could appreciate the delicate flavors of the mushroom taco. Plus, handmade tortillas are always a win! The elotes were a great appetizer to share, and the smoke in the Oaxacan Old Fashioned was such a fun surprise! A killer outdoor patio really set the vibe too--it was our first visit but definitely won't be the last!
Located at the Jesse hotel, this place has a fun outdoor vibe. There are also a few tables inside, next to the Jesse bar. I went with the dealer's choice cocktail and the bartender was on point. Their food was on point. The ingredients were so fresh! We tried the Shrimp, al pastor, mushroom and lobster tacos. There was a mix up with the order but they were great about it and got it figured out. We ended up with 2 extra lobster tacos! My fave was the shrimp tostada. The crunch shell paired very well with the juice limey shrimp. The homemade bean dip was good as well. Would come back to try their brunch.
Haven't been to Estella in a while so thought we would check it out again! The patio is huge which we loved and is seat yourself. We tried fish taco of the day, chips and salsa, elote, and an Al pastor taco. I definitely appreciated the hand made tortillas! Everything was good but 4 stars for the size of the taco was pretty small and the corn was slightly dry. Overall a good food and service from both Estella and the Jesse! .......the fish taco did say "chipotle crema" but it was spicy AF
Tacos and drinks were amazing! We ate in the bar which is technically The Jesse Bar. Employees were really nice and helpful.

FOOD: - Chicken taco: 8/10 would get again, yummy salsa - Smoked mushroom taco: 100/10 MUST TRY life changing taco that makes the $6 per taco price worth it - Veggie enchilada: 7/10 would get again.. unfortunately it didn't have any oyster mushrooms inside even though it was listed that it did in the menu - Chicken enchilada: 8/10 would get again AMBIANCE: 10/10 Estella is connected to an inside bar called The Jesse where you can order fun cocktails. It could be really cute for dates and nighttime vibes. It was a really beautiful day so we decided to eat outside where they have plenty of seats and tables too. Went to Estella yesterday and I would say it's pretty good. The only thing I didn't like was the chips and salsa with guacamole. The chips were stale, salsa was ok, and guacamole was pretty flavorless. I love chips and salsa and these ones just weren't good. Everything else was pretty good, the elote was too spicy in my opinion and I like spicy food. Enchilada was great, and definitely cute vibes in the restaurant. I would go back but might not be my first choice. read more

We came here a little after 3pm. We initially could not find the entrance and decided to go into The Jesse which is also a place we wanted to check out. We discovered the only direct entrance to this place from The Jesse or the shared parking lot on 4th street to the shared outdoor seating area. We came from The Jesse after having a drink there. We walked in and saw the menu right away with the kitchen area right in front of us. It was not busy and we were the only customers. They have about 10 to 12 indoor seats. It is a very small area with what appears to be just counter seating and no tables. We reviewed the menu, placed our orders and had a seat. My wife grabbed two small bowls of each of their salsas for our tortilla chips that we ordered. My wife ordered two of the shrimp tacos and I ordered two of the short rib tacos. The tortilla chips arrived first and we were both very impressed with the salsas. The green is a little hotter but the red was my favorite. It was a little smokey and tasted amazing. We enjoyed both of them. We watched as the chef's quickly prepared our tacos with all the yummy ingredients. They presented them to us on a shared platter and they looked beautiful and delicious. We both enjoyed them - each bite was incredible. We learned from talking with the staff that you can order and eat in The Jesse or vice versa. They do have a bar area but the offerings are different than at The Jesse. We will come back when the weather is nice and sit outside on the patio - check it out! read more

Wow! What a delicious and unique experience. I'm usually very picky, but I made a point to not modify any of my orders. And I am so happy! I highly recommend coming here! Order a 50/50. A delicious and refreshing cocktail! My favorite dishes were the pumpkin tacos and the salad. Delicious and flavorful. I've been obsessing about the pumpkin taco for weeks now. It sounds strange but is anything but! These meals are made of whole ingredients and you can taste and see how fresh and healthy they are. You can eat in Estella, the court yard, or even bring your food into The Jesse. Parking is located in The Jesse parking lot. Along side the building. read more

It has been pretty difficult to get these tacos lately. I've only been able to try them once and have tried multiple times to come back but they are only open for dinner and there's only outdoor seating so that doesn't really work when it's not summer. I also like tacos at every time of the day, I definitely don't agree with their lack of hours. They also don't offer online ordering or call in orders, you HaVE to walk in between 5 and 10pm. In a conversation with a friend not too long ago, I made the statement, We do not need another taqueria in Reno/Sparks. Well, folks, I have to admit I will eat those words with a smile and a taco from Estella's in hand. That is what we need more of in our area: creative, yet authentic cuisine. Chef Will Shepp ard is taking Estella's to this level with his culinary creations of "down Home" tacos. I wanted to try Estella's out and had the chance to do so last night. We had to squeeze into the Kitchen area where there is counter space on the walls and by the kitchen area. Considering that last night was a super busy night. They had 3 dining areas that were at capacity with 2 large parties in attendance. I believe that the kitchen staff was overwhelmed with the number of diners ordering at the same time. We were with 2 friends who are vegan and they were able to order from the vegetarian tacos available with the kitchen making the adjustments to ensure their tacos were vegan. I had a shrimp tostada, very savory, the tortilla was too soft, not crispy, a quesadilla (rule 1 in Mexican cuisine, tortillas should always be served warm/hot). The street corn was a great addition, served and dressed with popular condiments (but cold). We also had a flight of salsas with some of the best salsas I have had in quite a while, but for the price and to be honest, if you like salsa, it was enough for one person. This is the first time, I have never had salsa on my plate or on the table as this is a standard condiment in all Mexican restaurants. On a not-so-busy night at Estella's, I hope that the food prep will be up to standard. Estella's is a much-needed restaurant in96f23023-6cb9-4bbb-b8c6-fffbb416a102 our area. Try it out. This is what Mexican food is all about. I cannot wait for the summer's bounty. Tacos y Mezcal... you'd think that's the whole story, but there's a lot more happening at Estella. No surprise there when you consider the people who first envisioned the concept and the passionate and talented team delivering the goods daily! This restaurant is an epic addition to our community, Chef Harrison is the kind of talent we need in our scene, Diana is a demanding FOH manager and wants every guest to leave happy, and Lo is keeping the cocktail game and mezcal mix fresh so there's something exciting on every visit. Piper Stremmel, owner of The Jesse and Estella, had dreamed of opening a concept like this for more than 10 years. Inspired by her own lodging experiences abroad, Stremmel stated that the quality of her accommodations had the greatest impact on how she experienced a destination, so she set out to create a boutique hotel that could serve as the ideal jumping off point for an "authentic Nevada experience", and naturally that hotel needed a culinary experience to go along with it. Enter Estella, a small, lively modern restaurant with Mexican flavor and flair. The kitchen and small dining room occupy the former Hub Coffee Roastery, just off the patio behind The Jesse hotel on the corner of East 4th Street and Lake Street. The kitchen is run by Chef Harrison Cooper, who comes to Estella from the James Beard award-winning San Francisco restaurant State Bird Provisions. Chef Harrison's menu delivers an "authentic Nevada experience", highlighting the seasonal bounty and utilizing ingredients from local farms and ranches. After a few visits I can tell you that you should start your visit at the towering wall of mezcals. This incredibly diverse can only enhance your overall experience here, and the staff can totally suggest a nice one for you. I love that it comes with the traditional worm salt and orange, as well as a Nevada Brining Company pickled radish! If you're not feeling too adventurous, the 50/50 or Michelada will not disappoint. The menu at Estella is tiny but mighty, with some serious flavors packed into the tacos. The tacos are good size for the $4+ price tag, and two with chips and salsa can definitely satisfy a fierce hunger. You're really paying for the artistry that goes into these though. Handmade tortillas, house made marinades, and lots of technique, add up to an elevated taco experience. I've found the vegetarian offerings are actually my favorite on the menu. The smoked mushroom taco and the seasonal veggie offering (last time was beautiful roasted carrots) are incredibly substantial and wonderfully complex. I've also loved the seasonal salad as well, though I wish that was a bit larger for the price point. So why 4 stars? As a new biz, they're figuring things out really fast. My experiences have been a bit inconsistent, but I've shared direct feedback each time and I know they absolutely take it to heart and it will end up moving Estella to a 5 star rating for me in the future. This restaurant is an epic addition to our community. I look forward to frequenting Estella solo and with friends. If you haven't gone, do yourself a favor and get there ASAP so you can be the one to tell all your friends. read more

The tacos here are most excellent. They make everything from scratch and use seasonal ingredients. Each taco is "street size" but is generously filled. The ingredients are fresh and well balanced. Each taco was phenomenal, but my personal favorite was the short rib with pumpkin a very close second. I cannot wait to go back and try more of their seasonal and regular menu tacos. We also had the chips and salsa, you get a choice or a dark red or green salsa to go with light, crispy chips. Pair any of this with one of their signature mezcal drinks and you will have a happy belly! read more

Upscale. Ameri-fied. Tacos. Tons of outdoor seating. The night we were there, almost all of it was full. Bursting at the brim with people drinking and enjoying themselves in this courtyard between the Jesse and Estella. It was a sunny day and a bit warm for our taste so we decided to just sit at the bar after ordering our food and drinks. We decided to just order up each taco they offered at the time. 6 different ones. Two vegetarian choices, Fish Taco, Al Pastor, Carne Asada, and Carnitas, Some chips and bean dip. I also ordered up the Michelada and my wife ordered a glass of red wine. We scooted over and found a spot at the counter, hoping to get a little view of the process. The view didn't reach that far into the open kitchen though. We did enjoy the light coming in from the windows and watching the people walk by and try to steal a peek inside. The openness of the space is a welcome change to many of the smaller places in town. Too many new places find themselves in cramped and dark/dank feeling spaces. The inside of Estella has all the smoothness and cool lines of any of your best high-end modern eating establishments. The food didn't take very long to come out. Just long enough for me to wash up in the gender-neutral restrooms and get back inside just as they landed They were all really good. The weakest link that night might have been Carne Asada. The most fantastic was the vegetarian with some sort of carrot in it. The chips and bean dip were great and very snackable. The drinks came a little after the food. Not sure if they were just swamped or what, but this was definitely the best Michelada I have ever had. Perfect mix of beer and tomato. Light and refreshing and not too salty. While the price point is a bit high to make this a weekly or even monthly return, we will for sure make this a "must do" when friends come into town especially if they are into mezcal. read more

If you're visiting Reno then you must come. If you live in Reno and you hadn't been to Estella Tacos Y Mezcal yet then I am disappointed and judging you at the same time. I learned about Estella after doing a little bit of research prior to my visit to Reno. It was recommended online, highly rated on Yelp, and I had a co-worker tell me to definitely try. Of course, I came on Taco Tuesday. I believe one must try a fun place that has high reviews while traveling. Especially when you're away from home you shouldn't short change yourself with what you put in your body. I knew before coming what I wanted. However, one of the three tacos (Brisket/ Carne Guisada Taco) on the menu that I wanted to try was only offered Friday& Saturday. I went to Estella thinking I wouldn't get the meat taco of my preference so I asked what to get from the staff so they mentioned the fish, pork, and chicken tacos. I made a comment about how I really wish I could get the Carne Guisadda Taco and the cashier said I was in luck. They apparently didn't sell out the previous weekend which meant I could get it. Below is the order of how I would rate them with comments. Carne Guisada Taco.... - is made of braised brisket, pickled nopales, spicy aioli, and house crispies. (Normally offered only on Friday & Saturday) - I know brisket especially since I am born and raised KC where brisket is an essential meat used for bbq. The brisket in the taco was melt in your mouth tender but still held together without being mushy. Flavor of meat and toppings were complimentary of each other ingredients inside this homey but unique staple menu item. Seasonal Vegetarian Taco... - is made of locally sourced ingredients from Northern Nevada Farms. The seasonal vegetarian taco offered when I visited in mid-September '22 was the 3 Sisters Taco which had Summer Squash, Pinto Beans, and a Tequila Corn Salsa - I love indulging in food where there's no guilt but there is abundance amount of flavor, sinful blend of healthy ingredients, and no need to doctor your food with extras (I.e. salsa, guacamole, lime, Tajin, hot sauce, or jalapeños).Estella's seasonal vegetarian taco was perfect since it was technically hot like summer with the hint of fall in the air. All the ingredients (listed above) made each bite moan with excitement for the next bite then disappointed for the last bite. Smoked Oyster Mushroom Taco - ... is made locally sourced oyster mushrooms, oxacan green mole, cojita house crispies, and herbs. - I'm not gonna hide the fact, I'm a fungus lover of the mushroom. The Smoked Oyster Mushroom taco may be on the bottom of my list of tacos from Estella. However, there wasn't a need to doctor up / enhance the flavors with hot sauce, cilantro, lime, jalapeños, or etc. I'm not ashamed to ask for condiments when I feel that flavor is missing. I know this next part is not necessary but I'd like to describe the tortilla. Each taco was served on a corn tortilla, the size of a small dinner plate. I'd assume that the tortillas were either made in-house or locally since they tasted fresh. Each tortilla was able to hold all the toppings with its ability to soak flavor from the food without making it soggy. No one truly enjoys a soggy bottom especially when it comes to food that's supposed to be held with your hands. When I try places and go somewhere new, it's usually one and done scenario even if it's really good. However, I am quite confident the next time I make a visit to Reno and I'll be grabbing a bite from Estella Tacos. It's one of the few places in my list of must eats and the only place that worth a repeat trip for me in Reno. read more
Pretty cool spot, good food and tasty drinks. Had the shrimp tostatos, which were awesome, loved the crunchy shell. The fish taco and carnitas taco were also good and filling. Loved everything about this place. Only downside is that the tacos had a thick and bit greasy corn shell that was difficult to pick up so I actually ate them with a fork. I prefer flour tortilla instead, but that's not a deal breaker, it's more of a personal preference read more
I really like Estella! Like REALLY like it. My first visit I sat at the indoor counter and watched the chef prepare my tacos. My second visit I sat outside in the beautiful courtyard and enjoyed my meal. Some important things to know about this restaurant: 1) it's located behind the Jesse hotel so you won't see it from the street 2) it's tiny inside but there's plenty of beautiful shady outdoor seating 3) the menu is very limited but creative 4) you order at the counter, fast casual style and 5) the cocktails are incredible! As for the food, the chef is from the Bay Area and he makes amazing food. The corn tortilla shells are all fresh pressed and cooked to order, the meats are amazing, the veggie tacos are excellent, and the salsas are super fresh. As far as tacos go, this place is unique and delicious! Tacos are about $4 each but two to three is plenty for a meal! read more

We rented an outdoor area of this fine establishment for my daughters UNR graduation. The staff and Sarah, the coordinator, went above and beyond making sure the food, service and communication was top notch! The outdoor area was perfect on a mid May's spring evening. Seating was very accommodating, relaxing and the food and drink were exceptional. Great place to go! Enjoy! read more

Estella is open again! This small spot makes it very easy to order and take a number to get your food and drinks delivered right to your table. The outdoor seating is very cute, plants everywhere and comfortable seating. When it got colder, they brought out blankets, which I appreciated. All of the staff was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. They have a Happy Hour from 4-6 I believe, where margaritas are $7. I will say this place is not super cheap - a single taco costs ~6-7$ and if you're a big eater this will add up. The guacamole is full of lime flavor & delicious, but also not the biggest portion (although it comes with salsas as well). However, everything is made fresh and very delicious. The tortillas are freshly made and are some of the best I've had! The fish was flaky and warm, definitely my favorite! If you're looking for a nice Happy Hour or a cute dinner, definitely check this place out! read more

Cute place but located in a very ghetto area. This use to be the Lincoln lounge. They've renovated the inside and made it upscale. I had ordered the mushroom chorizo and a seasonal vegetarian taco; however, they failed to tell me that they ran out of mushrooms and so gave me two seasonal vegetarian tacos Instead. They were still good though. Customer service could have been better - when we walked in, we felt ignored and no one checked in on us during our dine. read more

Best. Tortilla. Ever! Honestly, I don't think I ever had such a soft and fluffy corn tortilla. Ever! These are street tacos size but they are definitely filling. I had 3 tacos and those filled me up. We also order a salsa flight and that was fun. According to the server, they rotate out the salsa for the flight so you never know what you're going to get. All of the 3 that we got, the heat level were all different. My favorite was the mango salsa. I do have to add that we were kinda disappointed when we found out the tacos we wanted to try, the fish and the seasonal vegetarian, were out. The guacamole was also out...So we will definitely have to go back to try those next time. Service was a bit slow but it was a pretty busy Thursday evening at around 6 pm. They were going as quick as they could once we ordered. Oh, I highly recommend sitting outside on a good Reno weather day, when it's not too windy. It was so nice to be outside with people again. Oh my goodness! Love this place, along with the Jessie next door. We were only at that Jessie since Estella location is closed until Spring, but the tacos were amazing! One of the best Mexican locations in Reno. Simple menu with great flavors, unique cocktails, and an awesome location. Previous visitors when it was Lincoln lounge will see that not much has changed in the patio, and the interior has been renovated to be much nicer. This is one of the best unknown (or was unknown) spots in Reno. read more

This is our favorite patio in downtown, and the tacos are just scrumptious. If you're looking for a super authentic taco, this probably isn't your spot -- they are definitely a more American-ized version of a taco. But still so delish! The price point isn't outrageous, though more than you'd pay for regular tacos elsewhere. I would say the presentation of the food/drinks and ambiance make the value right on point. The drinks are tasty, but a bit complicated as some are order from the exterior bar and some are from the indoor bar (in the hotel). Not as issue, as they take care of it, but just a bit confusing. This spot definitely doesn't feel like a hotel bar/restaurant. A must when in the record street area! read more
Finger licking good tacos! $5.50 is pricey for one taco but for the homemade tortillas and juicy meats, it makes it worth it. This location was previously Lincoln lounge and I've always loved the patio area, great ambiance. We came here on a Saturday night with some family. There isn't a ton of parking in the area but thankfully, Estella and the Jesse share a parking lot. This was our first time here, you don't need to wait to be seated and a waiter doesn't come to you when you find a seat, you have to order inside then they bring the food to you. My bf and I ordered 2 micheladas, elote and 3 tacos to share, it was pretty filling. The tacos are street taco size, but they are not stingy with the meat. Highly recommend ordering the elote, the creama they use is soooo good. Overall, delicious food, good company, clean and relaxing space. We would definitely go again! read more

Very pleasantly surprised. The neighborhood is pretty sketch but this place has a beautiful space to enjoy your brunch. The food came out extraordinarily fast, which was a nice treat. All of it was delish, myself and my two friends all enjoyed our dishes. The red salsa was amazing as well. read more
