He saved my partner in crime from having to be hospitalized for weeks in a hospital when the Covid 19 was rampant. He checked on him weekly and gave him hope that this too shall pass. His recovery due to pneumonia and sepsis took months and Dr. Newman was there every step of the way. As for me, I have been a patient for decades. When other asthma doctors did not know what to do except pile on the Cortisone which had dozens of unwanted side effects, Dr. Newman was willing to investigate multiple treatments. He does not use on size fits all. Each patient is treated like an individual. He does not stop until he gives everything he has got. He learns all the new medications as they come out and tries them out to see which one is the right fit for you. An avid scuba diver, Dr. Newman treats divers all over the world. He has also treated Olympians who needed relief to compete in swimming and other sports. Dr. Newman is associated with Stanford and has been on staff for years. I cannot say enough good things about this Doctor. He is the epitome of what an excellent Doctor should be and often today are not.

On the day of the appointment, I was initially seen by a PA, Siobhan Finn. I assumed she was simply taking notes before I spoke with Dr. Yu, but instead, she proceeded to take over the entire visit. During our discussion, she even told me I didn't need a medication that Dr. Yu had previously prescribed. The call ended, leaving me confused and frustrated. At no point was I informed that Dr. Yu would not be seeing me, and ultimately, I didn't receive the medication I had scheduled the appointment for. A few weeks later, I attempted to contact Dr. Yu through the Sutter Health Message Center. Instead of hearing from her directly, I received a response from someone named Dominique. I explained the situation and asked if I could speak with Dr. Yu without being unexpectedly replaced again. Dominique informed me that I could--but only if I paid an additional charge for a separate visit. This is incredibly poor customer service on multiple levels. I never had the opportunity to speak with the doctor I had scheduled my appointment with. I was never notified that she would not be available. And, I did not receive the medication I originally sought care for. To make matters worse, when I checked the "Appointments and Visits" section in the Sutter Health online portal, I noticed a record of a telephone visit with Siobhan Finn from this past week, late February--yet I never had such a call. I'm willing to give Dr. Yu the benefit of the doubt, but it is highly unprofessional not to inform patients when a doctor will be unavailable. Trust is a fundamental aspect of patient care, and failing to communicate this--whether personally or through an unreliable front desk--is unacceptable.

He treated me as a human being, not just another chart to get through. His expertise is extensive, but what sets him apart is that he goes beyond his specialty to truly understand the whole picture. He went back through years of my lab work and questioned why a very alarming result from three years ago had been overlooked. No one else had taken the time to connect those dots. When the specialists I needed were booking three to four months out, he personally reached out to advocate for me. His wonderful assistant kept me updated and made sure I wasn't left in the dark. For the first time, I felt truly seen, heard, and cared for. I only wish more doctors practiced medicine the way Dr. Marfatia does.

He ordered no tests to refine his diagnosis and prescribed unnecessary, inappropriate antiobiotics. Finally I quit going to that listless man and went to Dr. Marfatia. I just called up CMG and asked for a pulmonologist. The luck of the draw was with me--he turned out to be great. He asked me a million questions (the other doctor never bothered) and ordered a bunch of tests. I know this can inflate your bill, but in my case it turned out to be worthwhile, because Dr. Marfatia finally diagnosed me properly: I have adult-onset asthma. Now I can get the proper treatment for my condition. I recommend this doctor.

My main issue is that this office has always felt like a money-grab. The office often recommended additional tests and appointments that did not seem necessary. Although I understand the value of Ni-Ox and lung function assessments, the repeated testing rarely resulted in meaningful adjustments to my treatment plan. Appointments frequently ended with vague feedback rather than clear next steps for improvement. During one visit, I had a reaction to the shots, which was a stressful situation. The staff appeared uncertain about how to respond, and Dr. Zhang invited a medical assistant to observe my hives without asking for my consent. This was uncomfortable and dehumanizing. Additionally, I received the bill for this appointment and they charged me for a lung function test I did not take. I contacted the billing department who said they would call me back. I never received a call back despite following up. I check today to see they have revised their billing statement to deduct that charge. Very shady business that prioritizes money over patient care. I am now seeing a new allergist who looked at my tests and said that allergists should not be administering shots to people with numbers as bad as mine were.

I paid about $1300 for this. I arrived in the evening around 9PM and stayed until the next morning around 7AM. They attached about 30 leads to my body and monitored my sleep. They offer a prescription Ambien if you have difficulty falling asleep. They have a comfortable room and bed to stay overnight. The results came back within a week and it was shown that I had a mild sleep apnea. Dr. Shetty is very to the point yet courteous. He explained my options and I decided to go with a ResMed Airsense 11 CPAP. It arrived via Apria (a CPAP supply company) and after about six weeks, I became much more comfortable sleeping with it on and after a year, I have grown very comfortable with it and really can't imagine sleeping without it. I feel like my sleep is way more complete and I feel less tired during the day. With that minor change, I feel like I was able to make other improvements in my life like working out again, eating better, and losing weight. I do wish Dr. Shetty's office had a better office admin team. Talking to them sounds like you're talking to someone through a tin can and they don't have a strong web presence to coordinate scheduling of follow-up appointments.
