My husband and I had our honeymoon here and can't wait to visit again! This was our first time on Saint John, although we've visited several other Virgin Islands and Caribbean islands, and we can't imagine going anywhere else. We felt like family from the moment we arrived and met Savannah. The location is close/walkable to town but very quiet. Breakfast every morning was fresh, everything was clean, and Tim was always a text away for any questions or suggestions. There was an "island issue" hiccup where we didn't have water for half a day, but a case of water (and a bottle of wine) delivered to our room made us forget about any inconvenience. I'm so glad we chose to stay here while celebrating our 30th anniversary for a week. We stayed in room Jumbie and it was perfect! The view was amazing from this room! The view from the pool/breakfast area was amazing also. The location is just outside of town, there was a relaxing feel about the whole place. Being on the deck for sunset, glass of wine and music from the bay were perfect. We did walk up from the Bay Area and it was a hike, be ready. Going down was much easier of course. There is a trial you can hike to Honeymoon Beach. This beach was probably our top for just chilling out and enjoying the ocean. There were lounge chairs here, a bar to buy drinks, large area for shade, (if you need that) ;). We ended up renting a Jeep so we could go explore all the different beaches/areas of the island. Maho beach, great snorkeling, you will see a turtle. Even if not snorkeling you will see a turtle. Fun area here for food/drink, and lots of different rentals. The resort provides beach chairs for you to use, a cooler and you can rent the snorkel gear. I encourage you to take advantage of all that. They also provide ice. We didn't discover that until we had been there for a couple of days. Everyone working on the resort was so friendly, including the owner. When we go back to Saint John we will be staying here again! How can you not love this little piece of paradise? Estate Lindolm has a stellar view of Cruz Bay and almost feels as though it is a private villa shared among friends. There are lush gardens, meandering paths, fresh flowers set out along those paths daily, and a serene pool. The staff is super friendly and very helpful - you will get great insider tips from them and learn so much about the island and island life. Your stay at Estate Lindholm includes breakfast, which is lovely. You may also rent out snorkle gear. The walk to town isn't far, but the hill on the back is killer (so maybe drive or hail a taxi). Rooms (at least ours) have great views and balconies. It was everything we could have asked for. Parking can be tight, so be sure you are confident in your skills if you hire a car and choose to park on site. read more

After staying for a few days on the Far East end of the island at an Airbnb (and a flat tire in our rental which almost left us stranded), we were ready to get closer to civilization for our last night on St John. Estate Lindholm was the first place that popped up on my search and I booked it without much research. We do not regret the decision one bit! The grounds are beautiful, the room was very comfy and had a beautiful view, and it felt private even though you have neighbors. I can't even begin to describe how accommodating the staff were and how awesome the extras were! They have an honor system open bar, a pool with a view, beach chairs, coolers & scuba gear you can take to the beach, and the room had live hibiscus flowers thoughtfully placed. The location makes for a quick drive downtown, an easy cab ride or a walk if you don't mind climbing the hill. I will definitely stay here on my next visit! read more

This place is a gem...stay in the cottage. The stone walls from the original original sugar plantation surround you with history and beauty. Stunning setting above Cruz Bay - close enough to walk to town and several beaches. The owner Brion is truly happy to have guests and spends every morning at breakfast out on the terrace visiting with everyone. Got in the pool several times a day to cool off. Breakfast spread is healthy, varied and fresh. Love the honor bar too! I would give ten stars if they were available! read more

International travels, long flights, distant lands... forget all that. Just stop looking online for international tropical paradises and do you a favor, get to St. John. More specifically get to St John and call Brian for one of the best rooms on the island at Estate Lindholm. We went here for our honeymoon and frankly can't wait to come back. From the amazing views, tropical atmosphere, wonderful people and convenient location you simply can't go wrong staying here. In the morning you'll take a stroll down to the beautiful pool area for fresh bagels (flown in from New York yes really) and a wonderful fresh continental breakfast. What could beat that except the wonderful owner and staff joining you for a lovely chat! I've never been to a place where I felt so welcome. Brian and the crew will give you the inside track on how to party like a St John local. His restaurant suggestions were the best (La Tappa). This post just doesn't do the experience justice. This review is long overdue. I stayed at Estate Lindholm with a number of friends over a long weekend early in 2015. I happened to find it because its rates were decent and it looked clean and close enough to everywhere I needed to be. Brian, the owner made a point of personally greeting me and my friends when we arrived. We were retrieved from Cruz Bay by one of the Estate employees who made the first recommendations on places to go and things to see. From start to finish, this place was home. The room was clean, fresh, airy, HUGE, and had a FABULOUS view of the bay. Perched on top of a high hill, this place truly does have a monopoly on views. Sunsets were so romantic, the pool area was delicious - literally, with a fully stocked bar (honor system - cheap prices). They provide sunscreen and mosquito repellant to those travelers, like me, who forget essentials and such. Towels for the beach are at guests' disposal. You just pick one up by the pool and drop it off upon your return from many of the fabulous beaches down the road from the hotel. If you know much about StJ USVI, you know that very few hotels are anywhere near the actual beaches. This protects the beaches and keeps them open to tourists who may not want to be relegated to one or fewer private hotel beaches. As a US VI, the local ethos is one of protection and preservation. Private anything is rarer than landmarks and protected lands. I just loved it. I loved the people, too. At Estate Lindholm, Brian personally drove me to the port when I was scheduled to leave. After having a lovely conversation with him, I assumed I'd walk out with my bags and catch a trolly, but he wouldn't have it and he graciously helped me to the ferry. Bottom line, if you don't want to stay in the noisy bay and you want a more refined experience of St. John, stay at EL. If you want to be closer to many of the finest StJ beaches, stay at EL. If you want to stay literally onsite - across a sidewalk from Asolare, my favorite fine restaurant on the island, stay at Estate Lindholm. I can think of no detractions. read more

Wow!!! My fiancé and I stayed here in December 2018 and we had the most amazing trip. Estate Lindholm is extremely beautiful and well kept. Our rooms were clean and comfortable, staff was so friendly and helpful for anything we needed, the included breakfast was delicious, and they even had free beach chairs and snorkel rentals! The location was perfectly secluded, yet close enough to the town to walk 10 minutes down the hill (although the walk back is more strenuous), and extremely convenient for what we needed. I can't say enough nice things about this place, we are so excited to come back and stay again. We stayed in the Jumbie room- gorgeous views (and we loved the Estate cat, Boots!). read more

A truly special place: my boyfriend and I visited St John for the first time this summer, and enjoyed every bit of our stay here. After a last minute switch from our initial plan to stay on St Croix, we found Estate Lindholm through reviews and decided to book the Kiddel suite (gorgeous sunset views!) The service was seamless right from Trista picking us up at the dock to giving us an entire rundown of the island. Location is perfect right up the hill and a short (5 min) walk downhill. Catching a cab to go uphill at night was easy with all the Westin taxis driving around. The breakfast is a nice touch everyday, and the pool has a lovely view of the harbor and the other islands. We also met the owner of the property who took some time to chat with us. Had a wonderful stay here and will definitely return! read more

So you're trying to decide if you want to stay at the Estate Lindholm. Easy answer, absolutely. There are some thing to consider however. Keep in mind that this is a bed and breakfast type place and not a hotel. What this means in this case is that while it is a fantastic place to find quiet and relaxation without the usual bustle and noise of a hotel the "drawback" is that it also does not have all the amenities you might take for granted in a similarly priced hotel. It should be obvious there is no room service but keep in mind there is not even a vending machine. This is something you can obviously work around using a local market but just understand what you are getting and what you are not in this gem up on the hill. I'm sure by this point you have read many stories about Gordon and Brion and there wonderful customer service. All very much true so I'll leave it at that with the exception of adding a personal thank you to both. They pick you up at the dock upon arrival, get you back there when it's time to leave, and are willing to help you with whatever you need in between. Side note, if you are considering which ferry to take to St John and read about both Charlotte Amailie and Red Hook just take the Red Hook. We planned on taking Charlotte and to this day never did see that thing anywhere. So now some details to consider. Why are you going to St John? Are you looking for a quiet vacation on the beaches or some time in the bars and food? Well you're in luck because from here you can have both. The bars are all a short (5 minute) walk down the hill to town from the estate and yes, you can walk up the hill but you probably won't want to. We (two 40 somethings in average shape) did on numerous occasions and while it is certainly doable in that heat you will break a pretty good sweat and who needs that on vacation. Hail one of the always running cabs going up the hill and you'll be out 7 or 8 bucks but not only do you save the sweat but to be honest the hill is a bit dangerous walking up in the dark as there are curves, no lights, and no sidewalk. We made it at least ten times but that was only because it became a personal battle, do as I say here not as I did. The estate does leave a small flashlight in your room by the door, bring it if you choose to ignore my cab advice. Next issue I had while planning. Rent a car or not. Well again this is dependent on your plans. If you intend to really explore the island you can rent a car and will be okay as the estate has parking but understand you won't be driving this car down into Cruz Bay as there is very, very limited parking from what I observed. A consideration would be to rent a car for just a day or two from one of several available rental places in town. A cab can get you to most of the many beaches and I suggest you get to as many as you can but if you just want one beautiful beach you can make the 15 minute walk down the trail to Honeymoon Beach from the estate which was one of the very best anyway. There are a couple others within walking distance as well but with the amenities (chairs, beer, snacks, etc) this one has basically all you'll need, including on occasion, donkeys on the beach. Oh yeah, watch out for the couple foot wide stingray that swims up and down the water line on a regular basis. Make sure you plan ahead if you want a car for a day or two as they can get a bit scarce. I read many reviews before selecting the estate and the only negative I could find was some people felt the breakfast fell short from what they expected. Let me address this quickly. No, you will not have a menu with a bunch of different choices for your breakfast, again, this is not a hotel. You will have some really good french toast, fresh fruit, juice, and coffee on a wonderful open air patio overlooking the bay. This is a simple and convenient way to get a little food in you and check in with the hosts or fellow visitors in regard to any plans for the day before setting out on your adventure for the day. For us this was perfect (and the french toast was REALLY good) but if you want that fancier breakfast with a bloody or mimosa at some point there are several choices for that just down that hill you're on. I also read some reviews discussing the small pool. This is a small estate, the pool is plenty big and out of six days I think we had company down there once. Additionally the honor bar is down there to keep you from getting thirsty while you sit in the water looking out over the bay. There is so much more I could add as advice after having experienced this wonderful place for a week but learning was half the fun so go ahead, pull the trigger and visit the Estate Lindholm, you will not be disappointed and while you're there make sure you say hi to Leo who works on the grounds, great guy and if you're lucky he just might bring you a fresh mango. read more

We don't have enough words to explain the beauty and perfection of not only the island, but the location and rooms of Estate Lindholm. Everything was lovely! When you get into "town", the estate is right up the street and easy to get to. While you can walk up the hill (which is steep), you can always grab a cab at any minute if you are not up for the hike. Everyone is very friendly and relaxed. The laid back feel of the town and everyone at Estate Lindholm makes it a true vacation. We left feeling energized and full of life again. Brandon and Brian were true hosts. They made us feel comfortable, answered questions, and picked us up from the ferry when we arrived. They greeted us each morning and made us feel like the only guests there. Made us feel like family. The views from the room were breathtaking and the grounds were beautiful. They have this place cleaned up after the hurricane and it all feels perfect. I would go back over and over again. I am so glad that we chose to stay here. Gordon who runs the hotel helped to make our trip. He picked us up from the ferry and made us feel at home from day one without the phoniness you sense from most hotel staff. While the pool is small, we had it to ourselves almost the entire week! Breakfast is continental, but there is a variety of fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, pastries and hard boiled eggs. Drinks are to be had by the honor system and there is free wifi; this is highly appreciated. My only suggestions: where is the banana bread? And please have the toilet paper with the paper coming from under the roll, not over. read more

Open for business after Irma and Maria! We stayed in the plantation cottage, which had a spacious room with thick stone walls. The AC kept us cool at night with tree frogs chirping in the near distance. The pool overlooks Cruz Bay and is a peaceful sunset vantage point, with occasional visits from hummingbirds and geckos. There is an honor bar for sodas and juice just adjacent to the pool, the same location as breakfast. Enjoy an open air continental breakfast before hitting up the beaches. The walking trail to Salomon and Honeymoon beaches is just over the crest of the hill, and the hotel provides coolers, beach towels, and chairs. I recommend renting a Jeep for your trip, but we were able to walk in and out of town for dinner every evening. The trek may be too steep for some, however. What a great place. Loved everything about it. One thing to mention that demonstrates outstanding customer service - we got a ride to the ferry from Gordon's weekend assistant (wish I could remember her name). My boyfriend realized that he didn't have his cell phone a few minutes before we departed. We were about ready to get off the ferry to go retrieve his phone and while I was calling the resort and we were getting off, we saw that the sweet girl was on the dock looking in the ferry trying to find us to return the phone. We had a great stay at Estate Lindholm. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful, especially Suzanne the manager and Brian the owner. We were made to feel very welcome and comfortable from day one. It was also quiet since it's an adult only hotel. The included breakfasts were quite good and they also supplied folding chairs and coolers for guests to bring to the beach. Suzanne actually called me a week prior to our check-in date to discuss our itinerary, which was great since she made me aware of the ferry schedule from St. Thomas. We absolutely love Estate Lindholm. The grounds are magnificent and magical. It looks like you are deep in a lush forest with the most beautiful views. This is our second year and we will go again and again. The personal service is wonderful with Gordon and staff picking us up from the ferry and dropping us off to return home. Each morning Gordon or Brian or one of the staff would ask if we needed recommendations for the day of beaches, snorkeling or anything else. Slept in a beautiful hardwood bed (seemed bigger than an ordinary king - maybe a USVI size?), awoke to an incredible view, and loved the continental breakfast. It's more than a typical offering -- included hardboiled eggs and lots of fruit options plus great coffee. The operator Brian, and his lady love Ariana, are just about as nice as they come.
