I want my visits to the dental office to be boring, as well as the invoices from said visits. Dr. Bianco's practice at Dental Health Associates was recommended by someone who knew him as an acquaintance and had a good opinion of him. I have been to Dental Health Associates's office at least 10 times on a semiannual basis and I like being able to count on the same routine - a cleaning by the hygienist, an examination by the dentist, and x-rays every other time. Each experience has put me at ease because everyone is friendly and informal in an unscripted way. The hygienists have always honored my request for the dental scaler that operates under water pressure and then finished up and touched up with the manual instruments in addition to flossing and polishing. This feels way better to me. (I actually look forward to going to my appointments because hygienists clean your teeth in a way that the patient can't on their own.) The doctor has a lot of experience, is very easy to talk to, and, echoing what others have said, is conservative in his approach. The front office staff is quick to answer your questions and to process things. Also, the office has a pleasant physical environment - from the dental stations themselves to the waiting room. Located on S.E. 122nd Ave. south of the big Midland library and near all the auto dealerships on "Ron Tonkin Blvd.," dental practices being located here (and quite a few are) makes sense because it makes them accessible from Portland, east Portland, and East County ... and from up at the river (the Columbia River) down to North Clackamas County. There is an amply sized parking lot behind the office as well. I don't give health practitioners 5 stars (as good as it gets) because there are too many variables as well as procedures you may not have required or experienced and can't vouch for. So, for health practitioners, I view it as a maximum of 4 out of 4 stars situation and, in Yelp parlance, that means I'm a fan. Of the various driveways next to one story dental office buildings on S.E. 122nd Ave., I have found that the driveway at Dr. Bianco's Dental Health Associates has proven to be a good driveway to turn into for my dental needs.

So when I walked into this appointment knowing I would likely need full-mouth extractions, I was terrified. From the moment I sat down, I knew this office was different from any dental office I had ever visited. The staff's kindness and compassion immediately stood out. Patrick, the dental assistant helping with my care, was an absolute ray of sunshine. He treated me like we had been friends for years. I hadn't eaten that morning, and my blood pressure was a little concerning. Without hesitation, Patrick offered me part of his own lunch to help. Beyond that, he was one of the funniest and most genuine people I have ever met. When you're as fearful as I am, having someone who can make you laugh and feel comfortable makes all the difference. My 7-year-old daughter was with my wife and me during the visit. When she heard I was going to have surgery to remove all of my teeth, she became upset and started crying. Patrick immediately comforted her with a hug and helped calm her fears. The rest of the staff went above and beyond as well, taking her to the front desk, letting her pick out a toy, and keeping her company while I underwent my procedure. Dr. Nguyen was equally amazing. Throughout the entire procedure, she continually checked on me to make sure I was comfortable and not in pain. The team even covered me with a weighted blanket to help me feel more secure and relaxed. Every step of the way, Dr. Nguyen and her staff did everything possible to make sure I was comfortable, cared for, and supported. For someone with severe dental anxiety, this experience could not have been more positive. The compassion, professionalism, and genuine kindness shown by everyone in this office were unlike anything I have ever experienced in a dental setting. If you're nervous about going to the dentist, this is the place to go. They don't just care for your teeth--they care for you as a person.

I decided to take a deep breath & try them anyway. I am SO glad I did. It all started before I even got there - Alyssa (front desk/receptionist) was so communicative about my insurance benefits & offered options to make it possible to get the services I needed. Upon arrival I was greeted by & got X-rays from such a sweet, hilarious & very knowledgeable tech named Hallie. They constantly asked about comfort & gave options for how to be cared for. I was extra nervous to meet Dr.Knight, based on previously mentioned reviews... to my delight he was awesome. He communicated clearly, was kind, told some pretty funny/dry Dad jokes that put me at ease. He was present & answered all of my questions. On to my cleaning with Erik - who's done this for 10 yrs & it showed through their patience, communication & tenderness during the whole experience. Dr. Barnum spent at least 30 minutes with me--going over my history, chatting about my concerns, and making sure I knew all of the ins and outs of making decisions in regards to my dental health. I have never had a dentist be so very thorough! Turned out I needed a dental procedure that he didn't feel 100% comfortable performing, so he referred me to the specialist he felt would best be suited to my needs. I thought this was so impressive! He isn't worried about getting more money out of anyone--he just wants what is best for you, the patient. Compassionate Care is a very fitting name for this dental office!
