I have driven four times this week between Markham and Mississauga. With below-freezing…read moretemperatures, I decided to fill up my gas tank, as it was below the half-full mark. I was driving northbound on Kipling Avenue. Stopped at Rexdale Boulevard, I did a search for a gas station and got this Pioneer gas station. It was north of Rexdale. I needed to do a left turn. It's funny. I never noticed this gas station until today. I'd see the KFC just south of it. That's it. I'm normally on this street to visit Giant Tiger, Dollarama, or Dollar Tree, or all three! There was one other customer at this gas station when I arrived. The lighting was excellent and welcoming at 6 pm. This gas station is special in that there are gas pumps for regular vehicles. If you're a truck or larger, there are gas pumps around the corner from the convenience store. Nice! At the gas pump, I entered my phone number associated with my Journie points account. I then tapped my credit card and started to fuel. Easy peasy! You do need to prepay for gas here. If you need assistance, you can go into the convenience store and prepay. The only downside was that I was standing in a couple of puddles. Thank goodness my sneakers didn't have any cracks or holes in them! It was straightforward to fuel my car. I got a receipt and all was done. I didn't need anything from the convenience store. There was a man at the checkout area when I looked at the store as I fuelled. I learned that I have been passing by this gas station for years without acknowledging its existence. It was nice to finally stop by and check it out. (469)

That said, pumps are quickly activated and I can be on my way in short order at all times if I pay at the pumps. Four grades of fuel are available and diesel! My rating is 3.5 stars…read more I used to work in an office building across from this Petro-Canada station. Roughly five years ago, we moved to our current location, which is on the opposite side of the airport. It takes me longer to get to a gas station these days, should I need to. I like this location. If you have a rental car and are about to head off to the airport, I recommend filling up at this gas station. It's easier and convenient to fill up and head off than using the other station across the street. This station gets busy in the morning, as it is next to the airport valet parking lot. However, I never have an issue finding a pump to fill up my car. Gas prices are still on the high side these days, but it's not as outrageous as it was a month ago. Don't forget to use your Petro Rewards card to earn points towards various purchases, such as bottled water or a gas discount. (222)

Each location has an LCBO right across the street but I think the LCBO across the street (Lloyd Manor) is not as busy as the one at B Mall. I usually pay at the pump but I had to go inside to get my receipt because it didn't print at the pump for me this time. That sort of ticked me off because when I went inside there was a short line. I'd rather not have to go inside and get my receipt if it were to print at the pump as it should have. If you want to go west on Eglinton back towards the highways your best bet is to drive out the Lloyd Manor side and make a left at the lights.

With the current Circle K Gasino game, I got a voucher to get $1.50 off a minimum 30 L fuel fill-up. I have probably used a similar coupon a handful of times in the past. The catch is finding a gas pump that allows you to pay inside the Circle K store. It's not as easy as it sounds. I know that the Esso station on Parliament in Cabbagetown does because I've successfully redeemed a coupon there. There's another one, but I can't recall where it was. In Markham, is there such a place? I did some exploring yesterday. I wanted to try a new Esso station that I had never frequented on Woodbine Avenue, across from Costco. I pulled up to an available pump and looked at the screen. I could only pay at the pump. I couldn't redeem my coupon. I left the gas station, not buying a thing. It was weird, empowering, and fun. I took a chance and headed over to this gas station. It's small. I have been to the Circle K in the past to get peanuts. You can maybe pack ten people in this tiny store like sardines if you had to. This gas station also has a car wash. I pulled up to an available gas pump. It was my lucky day. I could either pay at the pump or go inside to pay. I did the latter and started fuelling. I did it handsfree while I cleaned my windshields with the squeegee a few feet away. This gas station is clean and nicely maintained. I headed inside. I was one of two customers. The man behind the counter was cheerful. I redeemed my coupon. I scanned it, but he needed to double-check the coupon and whether I had hit at least 30 L of gas. Everything checked out. I got my discount. Yay! I had my PC Optimum barcode on my phone scanned. I then paid with a credit card. Done! He wished me a great day. I reciprocated and walked out with my receipt. It was my first time fuelling my car at this station. I am more of a Petro-Canada customer. However, when you do see me at an Esso, I likely have a coupon and I'm attempting to use it. (127)

However the Petro Canada is a much better stop in most respects (lighting, service, store & washrooms). The bathroom is bigger, cleaner and better ventilated than those of many restaurants & coffee shops in the are never mind other gas stations. Also I have never once encountered a grumpy, unprofessional or shiftless attendant at this location which can't be said for many gas stations. There are other stations in the Richmond Hill area which compete with price on & off - the corners of Bayview/MajorMac and Bayview/16th have been "hot" in recent weeks, the Shell at Leslie/16th used to be the cheapest but it's been inconsistent ever since that big overnight 10 cent jump earlier in the year. However it is only at these Yonge & Weldrick pumps that you can always count on the markdown. Why not 5 stars? Like most stations the last 10 years, the Air Pump is not maintained. And just last week during the -11c night the windshield cleaning stations froze solid because they failed to replace the diluted mix with 100% winter fluid. I consider most gas stations worthy of only 2 stars, NONE of them meet my expectations for an industry with a license to print money. But this is place has the fewest peeves and combined with saving $3-$4 per tank on Top Tier gas, it's definitely one of the best.

Tip: Collect Journie points towards discounts and free goods…read more This Pioneer gas station used to be Husky. It will take a while for all Husky gas stations to convert to Pioneer ones. I have always liked fuelling my car here. This gas station is located on the northwest corner of Highway 7 and North Rivermede Road. It's across the street for a McDonald's restaurant that I like. Both are on the quieter side of the intersection. The southern part is where Centre Street starts. On Friday, I was heading to Mississauga. The low fuel indicator on my dashboard lit up. I remembered this gas station on my route. I had 24 km left before my gas tank would run empty. When you're driving westbound on Highway 7, you can either turn right at North Rivermede Road and do a left u-turn, followed by a right turn to get to this Pioneer. Alternatively, you can drive past the intersection and hang a right. I did the former. This station is always clean. I was at pump 7, which also has diesel. I entered my phone number associated with my Journie points. I then tapped my credit card and began fuelling my car. I let it automatically do it as I planned the next phase of installing my Sirium XM antenna. To make a long story much shorter, the car dealership gave my car a complimentary wash after servicing. The rollers took out my antenna. I got a replacement. Before I left home, I mounted my antenna to the back part of my car's roof and fed the cable under the weather seal of my trunk. I connected it to my satellite receiver to test the audio and reception. It was great! After I was done filling up my car's gas tank with fuel, I drove over to the parking area just behind the convenience store and seated the antenna cable under the weather seal, and then fed the cable behind the backseat. I then connected the antenna to my receiver again. I still need to finish running the cable under the carpet. The cable is 23 feet long and there's a LOT of slack. At least the cable isn't dangling down by back windshield! I'd guess that there are roughly six parking spots. I liked that I could work on running this cable and no one cared. It was nice. I have yet to visit the convenience store. I haven't had a need to go, but I should check it out someday. This visit got me 300 Aeroplan miles. I convert my Journie rewards to Aeroplan miles automatically. I now have 7 cents off per litre the next time I fuel at any Pioneer. Yay! I like saving on gas. Pioneer with its Journie points has a decent program going on, especially these days. There are some weekends that Journie does ten cents off each litre of gas that you pump into your vehicle. It's great. It feels like you're getting away with murder. It was great stopping by to attend to my car running on almost empty and my working on my antenna side project. (179)
