Simply...Loved it!
I signed up for the winter introductory rowing course to get my toes wet. My expectations were greatly exceeded when I quickly realized how technical rowing is. From the catch, to the drive, to the release, to the recovery; each part has a specific set of movement requirements that optimizes the stroke.
In addition to learning about rowing, there was a focus on health and fitness; incorporating stretching, weights, and core work.
To make any experience enjoyable, it's important that the people behind the teaching are passionate. I was very fortunate that Michelle, my instructor, truly exudes a passion for the sport. As a newbie it can be a bit overwhelming but she was super patient, very helpful and immensely constructive with her critiques of your performance.
As a bonus of taking any new course, I really loved meeting new people and hearing how they came to find the sport.
Lastly, it was great being able to row in the rowing tanks, it truly was a great simulator for how it will feel on the water in the spring when the lakes and rivers thaw.
I think anyone that is looking for something fun, challenging, and exciting would love this sport. read more
