Years of visits to orthopedic specialists at Lahey Clinic did not. But Nick Bennett, The. Shoulder Dude., worked ingeniously to address years of shoulder imbalance and increasing pain.  Each session would begin with, "I did more research and we're going to work on this....". He introduced me to brachial hanging which has made a huge difference in mobility and my sanity.  He continues to scrutinize every shoulder movement to ensure quality reps and assess the next weak link to remediate. He's relentless and committed.  And he motivates, reminding me my lower body is strong with dead lifts (110 not terrible for 66 year old female newbie) when I'm feeling frustrated with arms.  Extra credit for his excellent musical taste.   He is the guy.

They also let people walk around barefoot from the locker room through the cardio area to the pool upstairs. On the carpet. Barefoot. This can't be in compliance with health regulations. It's just disgusting. (The staff is quite nice and I like the equipment; I don't like the low ceiling. I'm there because it's very affordable and low-key, with a pleasant overall atmosphere. The carpet thing is really bad and I'd like a similar place with a locker room that doesn't gross me out.)

The owner, Alison, and the rest of the staff at Signature Fitness have made it possible for me to not only GO to the gym; but actually ENJOY it! Because this gym operates on a daily schedule packed with classes, you avoid the awful "walking into a packed, open gym and having no idea where to begin" experience. You go to a class and are lead through the exercises with a knowledgeable, friendly instructor. They make each class personal for you and offer modifications. Each class is different, too, so it never gets monotonous. There are class times from the wee hours of the morning to after the kids are in bed, so it's easy to work around any type of schedule. I especially love the Bootcamp and yoga classes. The facility is very clean and is fully stocked with professional equipment to suit all your fitness needs. They also have open gym times and a kid-friendly waiting room with a TV so I can bring my child when I need to. I can't say enough positive things about this gym. It's really the best around. My 4 stars are not saying it's in the…read moresame league as a Boston Sports Club or high-end luxury gym, but for its price point, Best Fitness is fantastic. Plenty of cardio and weights equipment, all functioning well, with plenty of duplication so you're not waiting for a machine, and a clean facility with music at the right level. The "extras" like towel service, soap and shampoo, and things like pools and saunas aren't included, but it's a "value" gym, and for my $30 monthly fee, I feel like I'm getting a great value. As for ending the membership, they are up front on sign-up that there's a two-year commitment or you pay an additional fee, so I wouldn't expect that to be waived. Finally, a shout-out to Kim at the front desk on weekday mornings, who greets each member by name and exudes positive energy to start the day. She always finds ways to spruce up the club between check-ins and is a great ambassador.

I've been a member at Westford since 2017, and have visited several other facilities over these last 8 years. The Westford Orange Theory used to be excellent. But the last couple of years Westford's coaching and office staff have really gone down the tubes. They are very unprofessional. There is presently only one coach there who is even moderately competent and engaged. I've complained about my heart rate monitor algorithm multiple times over the last year and never get taken seriously, let alone get my issue addressed. If there was another OT convenient for me, I would definitely switch. As it is, I've scaled back my membership and working out at home more since unfortunately the rest Orange Theory experience isn't available in Westford any more
