My wife called to make an appointment to get a massage, as she was in pain and needed a massage as soon as possible. She was advised that the 2 ladies doing massages were not in the spa when she called. My wife provided a call back number. My wife was advised that one of the gals would call her to make an appointment (the day she called or the next) for a massage. No call from either gal. No call from the lady taking the message. The short: Came in for a massage left a happy customer The long: Had a pinched nerve or a tweaked muscle in my back that I had been unable to get fixed using the normal methods so I started looking around for a massage. I ran across Essentials and saw it had good reviews and specifically for the massages so I called to make an appointment. they managed to squeeze me in that day in a few hours time. I arrived a little before my appointment since I knew there would be paperwork. I was soon in a room explaining my problem and then quickly on the table. Erin used a few techniques on me that I had not had before and although she didn't do so much of the traditional muscle rubbing massaging in the end I felt good. Not only did I leave relaxed but after a little while of relaxing once I got home my back eased up on me and I was all fixed up. Not very happy considering all the reviews. I got a gel mani here 2 days ago. While the staff is nice, I don't have much positive to say after that. I'll start with my main complaint: My nails have already chipped, NOT worth $30+tip! One nail on each hand. If this was a regular manicure, I'd say it's fine, but this is Gel which can usually last almost 3 weeks on my nails without chipping & i've had them done at a variety of places Here are the rest of my complaints. 1. The color selection is extremely limited. 2. The manicurist considers shellac the same as gel, which it is not. 3. Not well ventilated! 4. the supplies seem dated and don't seem to be to code (at least compared to other places). 5. my gel mani took 1hr 45 minutes. I recently received a gift card for a massage with Katey at Essentials Day spa. Prior to this I wasn't aware that this spa was in Lodi. I initially had a hard time finding it, but in driving around the parking lot I realized the spa is located upstairs and can be a little challenging to see if from street level. The salon and spa are very nice and all the staff are friendly and welcoming. Katey does an amazing job at massages and her room is beautifully decorated and is a restful, peaceful setting. I have gotten about 7 massages here from Erin. She is absolutely amazing. I've lived in Lodi for about 5 years and have tried numerous people for massages, but after finding Erin I only go to her. She always works on my target areas, has strong hands, and is incredibly nice. She is always willing to give me pointers for massaging at home to relieve pain (ex: cramping or chronic lower back pain). She's even photocopied books for me on information on essential oils for pain relief. I recommend her to EVERYONE! She is reasonably priced and runs a lot of specials. Five stars for Marcie! Best cut and quality color in town! You won't find quality like this anywhere else and the price is absolutely reasonable. I am so appreciative of how accommodating Marcie is to schedule me later in the day/evening after I get off work. When I know she has been working hard on her feet all day, you'd never be able to tell by her smile, energy level and positive, fun attitude - as if I was her first customer of the day. I have never received as many complements on my hair that I have after Marcie has done blonde balayage. Erin is professional, attentive to those problem areas and I always leave with less pain than I went in with. I have recommended Erin to others and no one was disappointed in her professionalism. I have tried several massage therapist in Stockton and have found that several of them were always late, forgot appointments, and moved constantly (you know who you are). I'd like to preface this review by saying that I really love this salon! I've had my nails and hair done here, and the ladies have always been very kind and gracious. I'm giving Essentials a 5-star rating simply because I always had a great manicure, and the stylists are just amazing. That being said, if you are diabetic or have sensitive legs, please please please be mindful when getting a pedicure. I am diabetic, so I used to get monthly pedicures to keep my feet pretty and healthy; however, I had one experience that has set me back financially, and have still not recovered from. I received a pedicure last June, and the manicurist scrubbed a spot on my leg raw with the body scrub. I contracted a strand of staph infection, which quickly turned into a larger infection that slowly spread from the initial spot. I ended up being treated at a wound center for 6 months, and had to have minor surgery to cut out the infected skin. This left a 3" diameter hole in my left leg, which went all the way down to muscle. I received excellent treatment; however, was laid up for 6 whole months, and in constant pain. I was hooked up to a wound vacuum to assist in the healing process, and had 4 skin grafts before I was finally released from weekly treatments. I can no longer afford the luxury of mani/pedi's, and continue to be 'in the red' on a month to month basis simply due to the 4 separate medical bills I receive each month. Here are a few things I'd like to pass on: 1. Always let your manicurist know if you have diabetes or sensitive skin (I did, but this happened anyway...it's still better to be proactive than not!) 2. Body scrub may feel good, but it CAN damage your skin! 3. (I'm adding this in because I'd like to spread the word in case ppl don't know) Never shave your legs right before a pedicure. It's bad! I always apologized for my hairy legs, but they see it so often, it's not a shock, so don't be embarrassed! =) 4. Make sure they sanitize the tub. If you're not sure, then ASK! Remember...they're working for YOU, so it's okay to ask questions! =) So, do I recommend this place? Absolutely! Just be very careful when having your tootsies done. read more
