We were first approached by the gentleman who seemed annoyed we asked for regular polish pedicures and not gel. He told us he doesn't guarantee they won't be smudged. We then were seated. It was Completely unsanitary. They do not use any liners in the tubs. There were nail clippings from previous people on the floors. The tools they were going to use were not cleaned. We ended up leaving without the service being completed. Also, fyi they also charge $4 extra for credit or debit card use. In response to the owners comment- This location is blocks from the Mayo Clinic. One would think that ensuring a safe and clean environment for there customers would be top of mind for a business near a facility who works with majority of sick patients. However, Rick clearly does not think so. read more

Hello, my friend and I went here to get our nails done as a pick me up about 2 weeks ago. We both got acrylic nails, 1) it cost $200, we both got pretty simple nail designs so it should NOT have costed that much! And 2) both of our nails started breaking off less than a week later, neither of us have jobs that would have broken the nails. I have had at least 2 nails break off while reading a book and have had to glue them back on! If I wanted to have to glue nails on I would have gotten press ons! Yes they are grown out a little now but when just the one broke off I wasn't so upset bc it's the holidays and I didn't want to complain but now that a second one has broken off I'm quite upset, acrylic nails should not break as easily as these did! Again all I have been doing is reading a book and they broke!! UPDATE another just broke while putting on my shoes! read more

Jenny and her husband Rick are the absolute best. As a perfectionist, it's hard to find someone who pays as much attention to detail as I would like to a manicure, but (as other reviews have mentioned) Jenny is very talented and detail oriented. I've never been more impressed with a gel manicure, compared to other places I've been to in town and other places I've lived. Rick has done my pedicures before and he's a very kind soul, easy to talk to, makes you feel at home, and does a great job. Highly recommend for those who care about quality, and don't mind a no frills type of vibe. Many of my colleagues come here as well and I think it's one of Rochester's hidden gems. read more

Absolutely the best place to get a pedicure and nails done! The salon was nice, updated and a clean environment. The staff was very friendly and easy to talk with. I don't get in often to have a mani/pedi but loved every moment of my appointment. I had them just do polish on my nails (no gel) and they took great care of my nails! My MIL had hers dipped and loves how they came out. Said the process was simple and easy and the coats of clear polish were put on nice and evenly so there are no flat spots or other blemishes. My daughter and myself went here yesterday but never again. My technician had 3 of us customers going, answering the phone all the time. My daughter did not want her cuticles trimmed but they still did it and cut her finger. A guy told her "Don't worry about it that it happens all the time". And they had the guts to charge her five dollars. She had the powder dipped and ended with more powder on her skin then her nails. They are more worry about bringing in the money and not the customer. We'll never go back here again! Let them cut someone else's fingers since it happens all the time read more

I went in with the strongest and best nails I've ever had. I do not have acrylic or gel, just my natural nails. I wanted to have my cuticles cleaned up and my nails shaped. I had polish on when I went in. The nail tech removed the polish by grinding it off my nails. This process not only removed the polish but also a layer of my nails. I was grateful that she warned me that it would get very hot as she did it because it was uncomfortable. My nails have been sore since this was done over a week ago. All my nails have had to be cut down as they are totally weak and flimsy now. Basically I paid $30 to have them ruin my nails. read more

Visited Essential Nails & Spa for the first time. I needed a full set of acrylics and had a picture of what I wanted them to look like. A gentleman helped me choose the appropriate color to achieve the look and then Jennifer did my nails. Since it was my first time with her, she wanted to make sure she got the shape and color perfect. I've been going to essential nails for about a year now and it's just a hit or miss on the results of my nails. This last time was probably the most disappointing. It took about an hour and a half to do my gel manicure and that wasn't included having to remove an old set. I am one to speak up on how I want my nails to look but by the end of my appointment I was just over the whole experience. I told my nail stylist that I wanted square rounded but gave me square nails with pointed sides and when I critiqued it the stylist just cut my nails shorter. There was nail polish on the side of my nails on the skin the stylist kept wiping the sides with a brush with alcohol to clean it but then wiped the sides of my nails. I critiqued some of the bad nails for the stylist to fix and repaint the side of the nails again but only did three of them. The coats the stylist were putting on were so thin, which I know they are suppose to be, but to the point where there are 6 layers of color on my nails and you can see in the image he kept skipping my pinky as it's fiery red instead of the maroon color I chose. I'm embarrassed of my nails as my co workers keep bringing up how must of forgotten to paint my pinky nail and are shocked when I say I had them professionally done. I got my nails done this time for my graduate degree walking ceremony to treat myself for a big event in my life and not too thrilled with the results. read more
