Was going here for a few massages and it was ok but far from good. I tried going to the same person but she was never could be consistent. Every time I went she would take 5-10 minutes to come back in the room and would end the session at least 5 minutes early. The manager was also very rude when it came to customer service. As an ICU nurse I was well overdue for a massage, but after returning from a week long trip to Japan my body needed a release. I was fortunate get an appointment the day I called due to a cancellation. I scheduled a deep tissue 60min massage and my masseuse, Nicole, was phenomenal! I treated my boyfriend to a couples massage here for his birthday and we had a good experience. We get massages often and like to try new places and we felt the atmosphere here was professional, the ambiance was nice and the massages were good. Pros: comfortable and warm massage tables, clean restroom, relaxing atmosphere. Cons: They seemed to schedule multiple massages at the same time which meant multiple massages were ending at the same time as well. This created a backup at the counter to check in and cash out. Also, this is the only massage I've ever had where the background music had words. Normally the music is some sort of soothing nature noise or relaxing instrumental, which I prefer. Lastly, both of the massage therapist's movements felt a bit rushed rather than having a steady flow from one movement to the next. read more

Well the massage I had here in the past was lovely but god forbid you need to cancel or reschedule at a time that is deemed "too late" now I'm being charged $30.00 for running late. Thank you for being so understanding of an 8 month pregnant mother having a hard morning. I hope you sense the sarcasm. Very disappointed, that's quite a large fee to reschedule. No I won't return for this fact alone. Also the woman on the other end of the phone thank you for your attitude and telling me how I should have called yesterday (on Mother's Day) to let you know. Because I wasn't preoccupied with anything else on the holiday. Clearly I was totally aware YESTERDAY I'd be running late TODAY. Phone staff is 100% lacking understanding. Why would I pay for a massage and a half. Take my money but I will not use your services again. If my client needs to reschedule or is running late I don't charge them, you know what I do, adjust, improvise, reschedule, what it takes to keep good business. To make this more upsetting (for me) is that my appointment was originally scheduled for a totally different day and Essential Massage called me asking to reschedule, which I happily obliged. Loooove this place. So many massage places are kinda sketchy, but Essential is very clean and professional. Super relaxing vibe there. Every masseuse I've had so far has been excellent. They ask you a lot of questions in the beginning to gage comfort levels and find out exactly what you want. For example, I don't like it when the person who's giving me the massage is super chatty. I'm there to relax and want to shut my eyes and not worry about making small talk without being made to feel that I'm a jerk. Yelp took me there on a recent vizzy to the D and consummate with being on "vacation" it triggered the desire to be pampered. Now, EMT is not your typical "spa". It might as well be a doctor, insurance or legal office. It's non-descript. No shimmering rock fountains, no monk chanting, no lady magazine overflow. It's really bare bones. But that means you can leave your c-notes at home, because a one-hour escape was $60. And it was a joyous thing. Ellen knew how to do me right. She consulted with me on my needs and then used her expertise to get the job done. Which is precisely what I expect out of any "artist". You know what you're doing, I trust you, but thanks for listening to my woes so you can chart my course to ecstasy without fumbling around. I was drooling, mouth-breathing and eyes-sealed-shut. It was divine, and the place was packed, a constant churning of clientèle seeking an hour of escape from it all. If I still lived in Michigan this would most assuredly be my go-to place. Not a lot of frills (which is to be expected for the price). My masseuse gave me the perfect amount of pressure. I get intense muscle spasms and soreness so I need someone who can maintain deep pressure for an hour and she definitely met my expectation. I don't like it when I feel like I'm being best up, but even worse is when I can't feel any pressure at all. She worked out the kinks in my shoulder blades perfectly. Not too hard, but not too soft. One of my favorite things, is that they aren't overly chatty. I know some people like to chat while they get massaged, I personally don't. I like to relax, and holly just let me be. I've been to Essential Massage three times now. The first two times I had amazing experiences with Courtney. Her massages are some of the best I've had. I especially love her deep tissue work. Today I made a last minute appointment and was scheduled with Mara. I was open to a new experience, but I was very disappointed. Both her technique and pressure felt a bit off. The best way I can describe her massage is "mechanical". At times it felt like she was just going through the motions. Perhaps she was tired? I was skeptical about the massage that my husband committed my time to. Lisa greeted me and we went off; on our way to massage therapy. After discussing my current ailments with Lisa we talked about cause and effect and remedies for my current pain. She was a pro. The next 90 minutes was intense. The actual massage room was perfect--small, dimly-lit, relaxing soundtrack in the background--not overly luxurious, but exactly what you would expect. The massages were both great, exactly what we asked for in the consultation. Last, but certainly not least, the price was VERY reasonable. I found my new favorite massage therapist - Lauren! She gave me one of the best massages I've ever had. I asked for quite a bit of pressure and she delivered. She worked out all of my upper body knots and I walked out of there blissed out. When I arrived I was sore and stiff from bad posture and standing all day at work. She really took the time to work out every tense area, which was very impressive because most massage therapists I've seen in the past don't do that, they spend a few minutes here and there and that's it. But Lauren expertly applied pressure when I needed it most and really made sure she got the knots out. I can't wait for the next appointment! First of all, they were able to fun me in with 45 minutes with one of their deep tissue experts, and I instantly started feeling relaxed as I walked in the doors. The receptionist was not only helpful, but is the sweetest epitome of professional and graceful customer service. The atmosphere just simply demands relaxation, tranquility, and rest. My therapist took my word at me saying I needed deep tissue with lots of pressure- they told me when to say "too much", which I didn't need to, but I didn't need to tell them to increase the pressure either. All of my (severe, mind you-I was a mess!) problem areas were targeted without me having to direct-I just laid there and relaxed.
