On top of that, I was charged more on my card than what I was told. Fifteen percent does not equal twenty percent, and that kind of discrepancy is unacceptable. To make matters worse, the towels used during the service had a noticeable mildew smell, especially the one placed on my face, which completely took away from what should have been a relaxing experience. Overall, between the lack of transparency, pressure around tipping, being overcharged, and poor hygiene standards, this was not a professional or comfortable environment. Opted for a 1 hour foot massage in the communal room. They do have a door separating the waiting room and the communal massage room. Sometimes they "forget" to close the door and every time someone calls, the clients can hear it as they set the ring tone on MAX. *omg* The foot massage starts off with a warm foot bath while the therapist does a head, arm, neck, and shoulder massage fully clothed. The foot massage portion is done with the therapist wearing re-used disposable nitrile gloves. Sometimes the pressure is good. It's more of a relaxing foot massage. The back massage is usually decent, again, fully clothed and in a communal room. $45 for a 1 hour foot massage in a communal room + tips.

In an area as expensive as San Jose, every single dollar matters. Between rent, groceries, school supplies, and childcare, there is almost nothing left over at the end of the month for personal care. I work long, exhausting hours, and after weeks of running on fumes, my body was aching. I saved up what little disposable income I had to treat myself to a basic foot massage just to decompress and recharge so I could keep showing up for my kids. ​The service itself was mediocre and indifferent at best, but I was willing to let that slide. Got the combo massage (30 min foot, 30 minute body) which was $50 + $5 additional charge for credit card payment. It was more like 10 minutes on the feet and 50 minutes on the rest of the body. This massage was half clothed. My masseuse had me remove my top and wear a spa wrap garment, covering my upper body but open on the back. The shared massage room had four beds total with curtains that could separate the individual spaces to make them more private. The environment was dimly lit with soothing melodies playing in the background. The pressure during my treatment was good, on the strong side as requested, with the use of hot stones, heated pads, and ashiatsu. I was surprised to find they do back walking in the shared room, but I don't mind a variety of techniques being used as long as it's effective. I honestly don't need all the extras (like burning stones and fancy coverings), just a simple massage focused on loosening my knots. And my masseuse did that for the most part, though she was more successful when using her elbows and forearms. Staff was friendly here too, even with limited communication.
