Visited this office as part of Delta Dental Kaiser capitation plan after waiting 3 months for an appointment. I knew this plan was worthless but decided to investigate personally. Requested exam, cleaning, x-rays. Despite being paid for in advance by my plan for all these services, what I did receive was a fake, incomplete exam, no x-rays and no cleaning along with a bill/treatment plan for uncovered services in the many hundreds of dollars. As a trained professional in the dental field I can confidently advise to look elsewhere for proper dental care and realize that capitation plans for dentistry, as a rule, are worthless. read more

The receptionist was so rude she lost my business before it even started. It is quite clear that Essential Dental doesn't want any new clients. The receptionist made that abundantly clear refusing to cooperate with me in setting up an appointment. She said I was not on the roster so I changed my dental provider to Essential Dental and had Delta Dental confirm this by sending her a fax. She claimed not to have received it and said my change would not be in effect until Oct. 1. Delta Dental said my change to Essential Dental is effective Sept. 1. Regardless of DD!'s policy, the receptionist for Essential Dental said she can't schedule me until Oct. 1 for an appointment in Nov. or Dec. I told her I need a three crowns replaced and she said that's not an emergency. So tired of poor customer service at dentists who accept HMOs. I think it's time to switch to a PPO. read more

This review is for Essential Dental located at 55 Mission Circle in Santa Rosa. I would be cautious about obtaining service with this provider. Front desk associates were rude and lazy. I was 10 min early for my appt, I had to initiate contact with the associate as she was busy reading her computer monitor (I wonder if she would have said anything if I just stood there.mmm). She then asked me if I had records from my prior dentist, I told her they were emailed to the address that she provided to me 2 months prior. She then checked her email and confirmed receipt (I guess because I didn't send her an email notification telling her what to do, that was clearly my fault. Interesting!!). I opted to wait in the hall before getting called in. After 25 minutes waiting in the hall, which was literally 7 steps from the front counter, I peeked in and asked if they were almost ready. The front associate said, it would be best if I waited inside because she's so busy that she can't walk the 7 steps to let me know when they are ready because she has to answer the phone. Keep in mind there are 2 associates working the counter. I guess it's hard to coordinate with one other employee for coverage purposes. WOW! So I sat down and it was literally 1 minute later that another associate called me back. I wonder how long they would have let me wait in the hall if I never checked back with them. Again, interesting or lazy...you decide.mmmm The associate conducting the intake and the dentist seemed nice enough. The teeth cleaning experience was very painful. I stopped the dentist once and indicated my discomfort, he proceeded and I stopped him again and indicated we were done. He apologized, I don't think he meant to inflict pain, I feel like there may have been a technique used that was different than I had EVER had before. Keep in mind, I'm in my 50's and have encounter a few dentists to know there was something different about this cleaning experience. The front staff was awful and need training in professionalism, customer service, and courtesy. The dentist was kind, but clearly his technique for cleaning was abrasive. For the areas he was able to clean, my gums were sore for 2 days. This is not normal. So be cautious, hope this help, and I've already found another dentist that was referred by a friend. read more

Our experience from 3 visits over the past few months for myself and my kids has been outstanding. We got in on Saturdays and the office is clean and the people are very friendly. They were especially good with my daughter who is a very nervous 8-year old when it comes to dentists. We've been seeing dentist Peter Chung who is very professional and has great chair-side manner. Ruby, the hygenist is likewise excellent. How good has our experience been? After her filling today my daughter decided she wants to be a dentist. Had this dental office assigned to me by my DHMO (Aetna). I didn't think too much about my dentist until I woke up one morning and had horrible jaw pain. I called left a message in the morning and they called me back even before their office opened. Without ever having been there before, they had an appointment for me at noon that day. The doctor saw me, prescribed medication and referred me to an oral surgeon. Pretty awesome right? Well the oral surgeon they referred me to turned out not to have an appointment for 3 weeks (at "Smilecare" or some such place, and after going inside of there I am glad I ultimately didn't have to visit). After going back to Essential Dental to have pain medicine refilled, they worked out a different oral surgeon who could do the surgery two weeks sooner through no prompting on my part. The office staff was prompt, very courteous, and always genuinely concerned with how I was feeling, and went the extra mile even when they didn't have to ... and all of this on a $10/month Aetna dental plan. They seem to take most (or maybe all) the same low-end DHMO plans that chain dental offices do, but their service is unimaginably better. You're cheating yourself if you stick with one of those other places instead of here. If you don't believe me, just walk inside and take a look yourself. Even if I had top-notch dental insurance, after the level of service I have gotten here so far, I would come back here without any hesitation. read more

I want to share how happy I am to have found this dentist. After a horrible experience at another office, I kept looking and found Essential Dental and Dr. Chen. I've now had four visits and I've been very happy with everyone there. Jennifer and Giselle at the front desk are professional and courteous. Dental assistant Jessica is always very considerate of my comfort. Fahim, assistant and lab tech, thoroughly educated me on how to take care of my teeth, and was very conscientious about making my temporary crowns fit perfectly. Dr. Chen is exceptionally patient, caring and professional. She explains everything she's going to do and why. She guided me through breathing exercises and took her time to make it as painless as possible. I had less discomfort during and after my procedures than I've ever had with any dental procedure. I needed extensive work done. But Dr. Chen was able to save one tooth the previous dentist had told me would require a root canal, which left the tooth stronger and lowered my cost. For two other teeth, there were multiple treatment options and Dr. Chen patiently discussed the pros and cons and costs of each, answered all my many questions, went over photos and x-rays and sketched out pictures to help me understand. I read Yelp reviews before I went and I mentioned to the staff some of the negative comments I found posted previously. I was told there have been several changes in staff since they were posted. Today I found an amazing dentist. I had new insurance and an emergency tooth issue. I called around to all the dentists in my area and no one would get me in because I was a new patient even though I am in pain. Essential Dental made sure that I got in as soon as possible. I can't believe that I waited 3 months for my first appt. with the insurance I have and the doctor cancelled last minute. They rescheduled me 3 months later and cancelled again. No appt. for another 3 months totaling 9 months. I've been paying elsewhere instead of using my insurance for cleanings. First time dentist (the only one there) had a personal emergency. Second time, a last minute call to let me know their xray tech wasn't there. I said that's OK, I'll still have my first appt. but they wouldn't see me without xrays. In the meantime, the dentist gets paid by the insurance company because I'm on his roster. This is very bad! read more

This place is HORRIBLE!! They have had some sort of "phone problem" that does not allow them to receive any voice mail messages. This would be understandable, but it has been over a month that they have had this problem! I have had to call up to 6 times to finally reach someone at the front desk. The dentist is nice enough, but I definitely felt like he was trying to extend appt's to get more money from the insurance. For example, my first intro appt was 1 hour long, and all he did was take x rays and teach me how to floss. We ended up canceling our future appts and finding another dentist. read more

Friday was my first visit to this office and I was very impressed. The facilities were very clean and spacious and had a mellow vibe. After retirement I choose a new dental plan that was not honored by my previous dentist. In searching for a new dentist I relied on Yelp to help guide my choice and must say I am very happy with my decision. I was able to get my initial appointment within 2 weeks of calling . The front office staff were welcoming and professional. Gissell explained the paperwork thoroughly and I had plenty of time to get through it all. I was led into the examining area by a smiling Jessica who got me all set up for the full mouth x-rays and explained all along the way what she was doing and asking how I was doing. Very considerate. I was next visited by the doctor's assistant, Fareed, who reviewed the x-rays and did a cursory exam of my teeth in order to discuss his impressions with Dr. Chen prior to her arrival. Dr.Chen was next and what an amazing individual she was. Very professional, technologically savvy ( she took HD photos of my teeth and went on to describe to me what she was seeing via the photos and the x-rays) and extremely knowledgeable. She presented a comprehensive , detailed overview of the condition of my teeth and gums. She suggested a regular cleaning for my next visit and recommended that I continue with my regular daily routine. Dr. Chen was personable and confident and kind and just downright nice. I've been going to this practice about 2 years. Overall, I've been going to dentists nearly 70 years and I'm very pleased with everything about the service I've gotten here. Obviously they had employee problems four years ago, but they don't now. The dental care from Dr. King has been great and I've gotten work done by several assistants which was good. I recently saw another senior dentist, a "Dr. A" (because he has a long, hard to pronounce last name) there and he's been good too. This office is very unorganized. I started with them in 2011 and each time I go the wait gets longer and longer. They ask if you want floride then you find out it was $25.00 that you have to pay yourself. They were suppose to contact me for the next teeth cleaning in 6 months and didn't. After a year went by I woke up and called them. They said they no longer contact their clients. So, it I made the first available appointment - which was 2 months later! The day before the appointment, I got a call cancelling the appointment because the dentist was called away to another state. The next available appointment was - yes you guessed it, 2 months away! I have Kaiser Senior Advantage - Delta Dental and there are only 2 Delta Dental offices in Santa Rosa. The other one is Western Dental with equally poor ratings. I read the reviews before going but My husband and I decided to give it a try. I found the ladies at the desk very helpful, and kind, they anwsered all of out questions with no hesitation. We set an appointment and i was so supprised when they scheduled it only four days away. When i arrived for this appointment There was no wait time, By the time the required paperwork was done they were ready to see us. My experiance here was great i have no complaints and would reccomend it to others. either the people with bad reviews were having a bad day, or they just plain cant reconize good service because they have never had that kind of job. read more

How this place stays in business is beyond me. For several days I've been trying to get ahold of them, yet no one answers the phone. On two occasions a recording said to enter my party's extension, or dial "00" if I didn't know the extension. I dialed 00 and each time was told I had made an incorrect entry. On the other occasions I got a recording saying they were either busy or closed. Finally I decided to just go there, and when I arrived they were closed. If you're going to be closed for any period of time beyond a weekend, it would be monumentally helpful to leave a simple message stating this. It took all of five minutes for me to find another dentist who not only values my business, but cared enough to see me right away. I have been a patient here for around 5 years. When I first arrived at their office my teeth were in a sad state. Years of drug use and neglect left me with missing teeth, cracked teeth, and abscess'. Dr. A explained to me my treatment plan in terms I could understand and worked slowly and methodically to complete it. At one point a crown he'd installed didn't live up to his standards so he ordered me a new one at his expense. The ladies in the front, Jennifer and Giselle, were always kind and full of energy. They helped me with a payment plan and pointed me in a few directions for dental insurance help. Ultimately they saved me thousands of dollars over the 2 other dentists I had seen and got quotes from. Over the course of past 5 years I've received root planning, 2 bridges, an extraction, and numerous crowns including one on my front tooth. I now have a smile that gets me compliments and I'm grateful they helped me get my confidence back. My entire family now goes here and I would recommend them to anyone and everyone. read more

We recently switched to this dental office because at my old dental office the dental assistant was literally eating a tuna sandwich as she was handing the dentist the tools to work on a cavity I had... No joke... I asked what was going on and she said she was just hungry.... So I left there and switched to Essential Dental and I am so glad I did. They have always got me in right away, helped me navigate the best way to pay for treatments (I needed two root canals...), and once the dentist worked through his lunch hour to help me. They have been very friendly and I highly recommend them... Plus they don't eat tuna sandwiches while working on your mouth... A win win. read more

Dr. A and the front desk staff are amazing! My father is not a fan of the dentist to say the least and DR A and his team went above and beyond to make him not only feel comfortable but his extractions and procedure went so smoothly because they worked with our crazy schedule changing.
