Much better quality than the tourist trap that is The Fantastic World of the Portuguese Sardine. That store has amazing packaging though, but we've heard that it's not worth it.

I wouldn't say it's cheap, but not bad. Service was decent as most places were really busy. We came here a couple of times while in Lisbon, we tried the croquettes, potatoes and the gelato. We were just walking past and wanted a snack those were perfect. Second time I tried the lemon chickpea soup. Soup was excellent and broth was very flavorful. Took us ages to find a seat! But finally we did. Potatoes were crunchy outside and soft inside, I tried a couple of different croquettes, ham and cheese and a green curry. Both were excellent. The gelato I had was pastel de nata and lemon cookie. Again very good and super creamy and you can taste the pastel de nata and there was bits of the crust in the ice cream. Yum. Cool place with every type of cuisine you can imagine. Just can be very busy.

It was difficult to only pick a few entrées, to try, but I think our favorite was the seafood. It was crowded and a little difficult to maneuver with a stroller when we arrived around 3 PM. The tables are set up for sharing and we were lucky to share ours with a wonderful family finding out we had connections to the same state in the US.

One of my favorite things to do when traveling abroad is to wander the aisles of grocery stores on the prowl for good deals, amusing products, and wild Australian dogs. The aisles of Pingo did not disappoint! Star Wars obsessed? Check out the Jabba the Hutt fish in the seafood section! Fan of the Two-Buck Chuck? Pingo has a full wall of wines under $5. Kermit is your spirit animal? Muppet eye special in aisle 3! Take note that items from the deli and pastry section must be paid for at that counter. There is also a check-out line reserved only for pharmacy items. Pingo also houses the entry to the "secret" Castelo Elevador, which will lift you most the way up to St. George Castle. Overall this chain grocery store is a fantastic pit stop to load up on refreshments, basic needs, and cheap pastries. Next time some obnoxious woman complains, "I've lost my fiancé, the poor baby," put on your worst Australian accent and let her know he's at the Pingo Dingo!
