My review is based on the visit of Coffee Now @Kaleido. Kaleido is a new event space at 16th Ave /…read moreLeslie Ave in Richmond Hill. There is a coffee bar inside the premise. Coffee Now is having their pop up shop at Kaleido to offer specialty coffee every weekend (Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 5pm). Coffee Now is well-known for organizing specialty coffee events, workshops and training. They roast their own coffee beans and I have visited their pop-up shop in North York. Of course I am thrilled to know their pop up shop is closer in my neighborhood. During their soft-opening, I have tried their signature Koji Latte which is very interesting which bring out the "sake" like flavour yet without alcohol. I, of course, tried their pour over coffee. Owner, Day is a well trained barista to make very good pour over coffee. I could taste multi-layers of taste notes in different temperatures which is the beauty of specialty coffee. They also have collaboration with a local patisserie maker, Once Patisserie to offer some desserts to pair with the coffee. Purin, Japanese pudding which is hard to find in Toronto. Brûlée basque cheesecake tastes very light that fits Asian's taste bud. During their soft opening, the service was friendly although they may not have cover for their hot drink for take out, but I got my drink and food with reasonable wait time. I will definitely go back as it is very close to me. The space is very comfortable to spend time to enjoy coffee on my own or as a group.

I wrote a rave review but it seems to have disappeared or replaced by something irrelevant. Let me…read morejust say that I have been to the Dance Art studio in Richmond Hill many times and it has always been very enjoyable. The lady in charge, Cristina Amalia Dina, can teach any dance, either American or international style; and she is assisted by another lady who also knows her stuff. The guests can request particular dances (e.g. fox trot, west coast swing) and the music will be provided. I remember one occasion when we practiced five different dances in the space of one hour. When I leave Dance Art I always feel happier. But don't take it from me! Try Dance Art for yourself and you won't be disappointed. P.S. Age is no barrier. I first took dance lessons when I was 81; now I am 90 and looking forward to more dancing after the pandemic.

If that wasn't enough, the CD skipped and 3 out of 4 songs couldn't be played/danced too - to say it was embarrassing with high level VERY important guests there is an understatement. The dancers themselves were ok. I was furious and they only gave us back half the money. I honestly would have given them the full amount to stay home. Yes, it was that bad.

Honestly it was a great hotel and we will definitely be coming back. Our room was clean and updated. The breakfast was hot with some variety. It was nice to see the hotel busy with lots of guests and each evening of our stay people hung out in the lobby. Lots of life in the hotel is a good thing! Even with a large number of guests the hotel breakfast was able to keep up with the demand. Parking lot was good. With the heavy plowed piles of snow and the fact that they shared a parking lot meant not as many parking spaces as needed so may need to search for a bit but we still always found one. Other than that no complaints. Our door to our room was funny and the shower made a noise at the start but these things are so minor. We will definitely be back.

I booked this hotel months in advance for an international birthday trip from the United States…read more What followed was six nights of compounding failures, deliberate misinformation from hotel management. 6 rooms across 6 nights: Room 405 (Apr 23-27) -- Original suite with king bed, kitchenette, and tub. Vacated mid-stay due to a plumbing emergency. Room 414 (Apr 27) -- First replacement. Significantly smaller, double queens, none of the original amenities. Room 201 (Apr 27-29) -- Second replacement. King bed but smaller, no kitchenette, no tub. Suffered a second plumbing failure on Apr 28 and sewage odor Apr 28-29. Room 204 (Apr 28) -- Temporary room provided solely so I could access a working shower. Room 212 (Apr 29) -- Staff physically unlocked this room for me to shower. When I returned, the door had been shut. Staff re-opened it -- and we discovered it was occupied. A female guest was in the process of changing. Hotel staff had twice granted me access to another paying guest's room. Room 203 (Apr 29) -- Final alternative after the Room 212 incident. Had the same sewage odor. Completely unusable. What went wrong: The lobby and pool were under active renovation my entire stay. I wasn't told until one day before arrival, despite booking months in advance. Had I known, I would have stayed elsewhere. The hotel's solution was to bus guests to a nearby Sheraton for pool access -- not acceptable. One elevator was out of service for an extended period. I have a medical condition affecting my knees. Repeatedly climbing multiple flights of stairs was a genuine physical hardship. Renovation appliances including microwaves were stored in the hallways throughout my stay -- a safety hazard and well below any brand standard. On April 27, I was forced to vacate my original suite mid-stay due to a plumbing emergency. Every replacement room offered was a downgrade. At no point was I given a room that matched what I had booked and paid for. Room 201 was placed directly above the active pool construction. On April 28 -- my birthday, the entire reason for this trip -- I was woken at 8:20 AM by loud drilling. Later that same morning, the hotel called to inform me that Room 201's shower, sink, and toilet would be out from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Nearly nine hours without basic water access. Upon returning to the room that evening, there was a sewage smell coming from the bathroom. It was still there the next morning. The Room 212 incident is the most serious failure of this entire stay. Staff directed me to and physically unlocked an occupied guest room -- not once, but twice. This is an egregious breach of guest privacy and safety that should never have been possible under any operational circumstance. When I raised the issue of my 60,000 IHG points used for my April 23-25 reservation, the property manager told me she did not have the authority to process a points refund and directed me to contact IHG corporate. I did exactly that -- and IHG corporate confirmed that she does have that authority. She had the ability to resolve this at the property level and instead chose to send me on a deliberate runaround. That is not a miscommunication. That is a manager using a false claim to avoid accountability. The hotel offered a partial refund of $147.70 against an original charge of $606.92 -- and only before the most serious incidents had even occurred. IHG denied my formal points refund request. Downtown Markham - The Origin

Every time I say that I'm heading over to or hitting downtown Markham, it still sounds weird to me…read more I will admit that it is growing on me after a few years. Like downtown Mississauga, downtown Markham is fairly new. The notion was to create condos and have locals walk to businesses. Enterprise Boulevard is a pleasure to drive along to head there. Stores, condos, and new developments continue to be built, including York University's new Markham Center Campus in Fall 2023. Currently, York U. has YSpace Markham, which supports folks who are innovators in technology, and food, and beverage sectors. Before the pandemic, I rarely hit the downtown core. I only visited Chatime, ME-VA-ME, and Cineplex VIP. During this pandemic, I have been able to discover cool new places. Copper Branch. Comebuy. Poke Guys. South St. Burger. I love how cool the Marriott hotel looks here. One of these days, I'll need to book some time here and check it out, along with its fabulous restaurant. I am a regular bubble tea customer at Comebuy and Chatime. Who knew? I have been supporting both regularly for the past 1.5 years and have established a nice rapport with staff. There is only one Comebuy in the GTA. If I'm away for a rare couple of weeks, staff are literally concerned. One made sure before Christmas 2020 to let me know what their hours of operation were, so I wouldn't be disappointed not getting any bubble tea! There is plenty of parking. There are lots that are primarily free. I have yet to be asked to pay for parking. In front of Comebuy and Poke Guys, even where street parking isn't exactly available, parking briefly to fetch takeout is okay. I have yet to see any parking police come over and I am rarely parked longer than five minutes. There is an indoor merry-go-round at the northwest corner of Birchmount and Enterprise. I admire it from afar these days. It has been closed since the pandemic, but looked magical and festive around the Christmas holidays. Back in the summer of 2017, I came here for the Markham ribfest. It moved from Warden and highway 7 over here. I had an excellent time, despite getting caught in the rain and getting soaked trying to get to my car from the venue. I do miss seeing events downtown and hope that they return when it's safe. I like it here. It's constantly growing and changing. It's nice to briefly admire the lights in the wintertime and people-watch in the summer. (263)

It will take years to complete but I like what they are doing. An area that local residents can meet up, eat, shop and play and even actually live in the immediate area. There are a mix of franchise and smaller independent businesses has set up shops here: Cineplex VIP, Milestones, Marriott, Chatime, Golf Town, Aroma Espresso, just to name a few. Good Catch, Poke Guy, Lucullus Bakery, Kiu Japanese are some of the smaller independent restaurants. The annual Markham Ribfest has moved here and for this Summer there was live performance every Saturday night. I looking forward to all the future development and hopefully I don't need to go downtown Toronto for a fun night out and instead can just hop by Downtown Markham!
