So I stumbled upon this shop when I was googling who did traditional work in the city. I needed a cover up done because I got some tattoos done in memory of my grandparents. Of course, I sent my original tattoo artist in South Carolina the wrong date. Well Andrew was able to work miracles. Was able to get everything done in a day and it turned out fantastic. Even able to get the correct dates put on also. But don't make the mistake I made. All review dates and names before getting them tattooed lol.

Miguel is amazing, I have now had him tattoo me twice. Once he fixed a tattoo on my foot, and he just recently did a couple tiaras for my best friend and me. Miguel is so professional. We came in to talk, and he was very informative and had a lot of great professional advice. The day we went in, he showed us what he drew and let us change what we wanted. He let us talk about colors when we went in and made sure that everything was exactly what we wanted. Conversational, and very efficient. So stoked on this place,unfortunately I have had some bad work done in the past but these guys (Ryan,and Miguel) are amazing. They will fix you up and do amazing at it. I took my mom for her first tattoo last week or so. Ryan made her feel totally comfortable and have her all the information she would need to prepare her for getting the tattoo and for after she has it. I am going to this place for life. As a matter of fact I am going in this week to get my newest piece drawn up!

If you're looking for an anime artist, stop right here. Kolebee is your man. He was able to squeeze my husband and his sister for a tattoo. Since we had a flight to caught the next day. He was so bad ass and just a rad person to be around with. Will most definitely be coming around for more!

Sev did my latest tattoo and I couldn't be happier! Everything in the shop is super clean. Music selection was on point. She was very careful and methodical and was constantly checking on me to make sure I was doing okay, which I was, but it is always nice to know that your tattoo artist isn't just stuck in their own head when they are working on you. Just got a tattoo from Tommy at Escondido, and he truly surpassed my expectations! I am a VERY picky person, and he took the time to give me and my 2 girlfriends the same, perfect, matching tattoos. His line work is impeccable, and has amazing attention to detail. He also has a very light hand, so no yucky scarring! Overall my experience was a 10/10! I will say again and again that Ryan is an awesome artist and guy. I am extremely happy with the work I have gotten done at ETC ( I should hope so it's gonna be on me for awhile...). I've been getting tattooed by Ryan for years now, he's a very straight forward guy and we always have interesting conversations that help me deal with getting tattooed for hours straight. I have been coming here for years and Ryan does all my work, What I love is how easy it is to work with them on what you want and they always make sure you get a great experience. Really wonderful artists in this studio and the quality is amazing, and it has a non pretentious atmosphere which I like a lot. They make you feel at home and totally comfortable throughout your session and I would highly recommend anyone to come here and get some work done. I get compliments all the time when I am out about my ink, a tiny old lady stopped me the other day and told me how beautiful it all was and how she wished she had been more brave when she was younger and grabbed my hand and squeezed it tight. Rev Ryan has done more than 20 hours on my leg in multiple sessions in addition to the many quirky and unique little pieces I have requested. I was shopping around for a tattoo artist for my first tattoo, and I walked into this place and met Miguel. He was awesome! It was clear to me that he enjoys what he does. He looked at my design and spent a good deal of time listening to what I wanted and making helpful suggestions. He took the time to sketch out a design and provided thoughtful ideas about color, shading, and spacing. I was excited to get it done. He made an appointment for me in less than a week and he did a great job on my tattoo, I'm very happy with it. I'm definitely going back for more work. Escondido Tattoo Studio is by far the best tattoo shop I've ever been to, not only are the artist professional but they're fun and make you feel comfortable. The shop is very well decorated and has a great feel to it. Ryan is an amazing artist and he provides an unforgettable experience. I personally have gotten color tattoos done here and they pop! It's been quite a few years since one of my color tattoos and it still hasn't faded. They do excellent work here, and I highly recommend this shop! Meet the Business Owner: Ryan R.

The Rev. Ryan has been a professional Tattoo artist 24+years, Tattooing in Wilmington N.C., Fort Wayne Indiana & finaly settling down in Escondido Ca. Escondido Tattoo Studio Was originaly opened in 1975 by Larry Riggs, Ryan started tattooing there in the winter of 05 and worked for L.R. & Don Bishop and eventually purchased E.T.S. in spring 2010. The Rev. Ryan is currently tattooing full time at E.T.S.’s sister shop High Standard Tattoo Studio in Jacksonville NC. The Rev. left Escondido Tattoo Studio in the capable hands of his long time friend, partner and a very capable tattooer Miguel (El Greñas) Albarran and his only apprentice and full time tattooer since 2016 Thomas (Tommy Two Tats) Alaniz. Call or text the Rev. to book an appointment for when he is in town or call the shop to schedule a tattoo appointment with Miguel or Tommy.

Even tho I was the one paying and I was there as a minors adult guardian. I was about to drop $300 on piercings at a place that values and respects its customers so well that they wouldn't even let them use the restroom. After waiting over an hour! Pathetic. Don't waste your time or money. There are over 1 million tattoo shops in San Diego that do just as good of a job, but actually treat their customers with respect. Fucking joke of a shop.

Looking back, we should have paid more attention to the red flags, but we were excited, as we'd been planning these tattoos for two years (she lives 3,000 miles away so we don't see each other much). Because we didn't have an appointment, we were assigned an artist named Jason, who wasn't even listed on the shop's website and had no portfolio available. We assumed it would be fine since our designs were so simple, my sister's was a small 4-inch tattoo on her inner wrist, and mine was a six‑word handwritten sentence on my arm. Before starting, Jason stepped outside to grab his tattoo equipment from his car. That was the first sign something was off. Before coming back inside, he took a cigarette break, and came back smelling heavily of cigarette smoke. Once we were in the room, it was obvious his hands were quite shaky. My sister went first, and her tattoo took about fifteen minutes. When he finished, he folded up a paper towel, not a sterile pad, just the same roll he'd been using to wipe ink, and placed it over her tattoo. Then he wrapped blue painter's tape around it. Not sterile, medical tape of any kind, painter tape that came straight out of his backpack. When it was my turn, he needed six attempts to place the stencil straight, and each time he repositioned it, he didn't bother wiping off the previous placement. My tattoo took under 10 minutes, and afterwards he covered it with the same paper towel and painter's tape setup. As we were leaving, I realized we hadn't signed any consent forms or waivers. When I brought it up, he brushed it off and said it wasn't necessary. For payment, he insisted on cash and pointed to an ATM, even though the website clearly states they accept credit cards. I paid with my credit card since I hadn't brought cash or debit, but he seemed irritated that I didn't use cash. When we got home and I removed the paper towel, I immediately noticed that my tattoo didn't match the handwriting sample I provided. It was supposed to be my late mother's handwriting, and the final result doesn't resemble her writing at all. I understand it wouldn't be perfect, but all he had to do was trace the stencil. Needless to say, my sister and I are both very dissatisfied with the experience. I'm sure the outcome would have been very different with another artist, but it is ultimately the shop owner's responsibility to ensure that all employees follow proper safety practices, maintain hygienic standards, and use sterile equipment.

They made us feel stupid for wanting something on our bodies that represented something important to us. As soon as we walked into Tribal Roots we were greeted and welcomed as if we were returned customers. Gabe listened to what we wanted and we told him he had free reign with his artistic interpretation. There was no judgment from anyone. The place is clean, all the artist sanitize their area before their appointments arrive, and everyone is chillaxed there. As we spent our time there we felt as if we were part of their tattoo family. The work that Gabe did was amazing. He is talented and art is unique. If you looking for tribal art, he is your guy. His care and attention are impeccable. His schedule is booked in advance, so if you want a piece of art from him will need to be patient. You will not regret it.

First of all, Ryan is the guy you want for your tattoo. I came to him with an idea, but no artwork. From three Google images that I emailed to him, he was able to create a tattoo that far exceeded my expectations. What I wanted was no simple matter, but everyone who has seen the finished product has been amazed. Seriously, people with 15 and 16 tattoos have approached me and asked me about mine. I have told everyone who asks that Ryan at ETS is the one to go to. Ryan is not only exceptionally professional, but he was also able to fit me in on short notice for the initial and follow-up work. His shop is sparkling clean and the hygiene with disposable tubes is impeccable. Do not worry about the location or the front of the shop; this is an A+ operation, all the way! The small business atmosphere means that you get more time one-on-one with the artist, instead of having to go through a go-between gopher, who can't give you any information on his own. I fully plan to come back if I ever need to add on to this tattoo. I hate to even mention this, because the art is the most important part, but the price for my work was also amazing. If you have the opportunity and a great idea for a tattoo, make sure you come to ETS and ask for Ryan. read more

Rev Ryan is amazing. I was in need for a new artist.. bad andI heard about him through one of my fellow roller derby girls who was going to him for her work. I decided to check it out and I have been going to him for about a year and a half now and couldn't be happier. Not only does he listen to what I want out of/in a tattoo but he is also an extremely talented tattoo artist. I have some of his free hand(just drawn straight out on my arm!) work also and it's just as good as the stuff we have spent hours on drawing up. I have never once gotten a duplicate picture drawn out.. I give him and idea and he just draws it. I have been to other artists in the past but none as talented or patient as Ryan. Don't let his size fool you, he is light handed with the tattoo machine, it's great. Not to mention just a cool guy. He recently purchased the shop and has totally turned it around. I am a proud "Rev Ryan Follower" and know I won't be going to anyone else for my work. I added picture to this album a of some of my work on my sleeve. I've been through a few different tattoo shops in my time since most places charge too much for too little or just don't have the talent I actually need for the work I want done. Then about a year ago I went to see Ryan at Escondido Tattoo Studio and my search ended. He's a friendly guy with good prices and a great location. Additionally his work is just phenomenal and I couldn't possibly be more happy with the color and shading work he's done for me; I'm half way through a sleeve and I constantly get comments on how incredible the coloring detail is. Keep in mind, I'm not talking one solid color that just happens to be bright, I'm talking about a seven inch tall man in a suit with dozens of different shades of red constituting the folds and design of his clothing, it's truly difficult and detailed tattooing and Ryan has done it flawlessly. I highly recommend the quality of the artwork, the customer service and the cleanliness of ETS. Collecting a few pieces over the years I have met a myriad of tattoo artists. Most I've met have had an arrogance about them - an immediate turnoff as a potential client. It's usually the same attitude you find when you patronize one of those indie music stores where the staff makes you feel like you're not hip enough to be there. This was not the case with Rev. Ryan. And, that is partially why I chose him. I've had three sessions with him to add to a shoulder cap and create a half-sleeve and every time I get compliments on his work. If you've never been tattooed or met with a tattoo artist or you have and you think you know more than the professionals Rev. Ryan will accommodate you. And plus, they're always playing great music. I have worked extensively with shop owner Ryan on getting tattoos on various parts of my body including sleeve, ribs and back. His expertise, skill, and business professionalism is stellar. He helped fix an old tattoo, and is always excited about any projects I bring him, no matter how challenging. His color work is outstanding, and his ability to customize tattoos and bring your ideas to ink are insane. The tattoos he does always come out beautiful and the color lasts through anything. My husband and I stumbled upon Escondido Tattoo shop and are so glad that we did! Between the both of us, we have gotten 12 tattoos from Ryan. He does absolutely amazing work! The best part is- he's not the typical arrogant, asshole tattoo artist. We love getting tattooed by him because we know we will get amazing results and have a good time while there. Decided on a whim to get a vaca souvenir tattoo while here from NH. John was able to fit me in on very short notice. The artistry was superb and the execution was perfection. Miguel does all my tattoos and I wouldn't want it any other way. He's great and bringing what you want to life, and executes it on the skin. It really wasn't bad getting them done and doesn't take a really long time. He has the ability to focus so you don't have to constantly worry about him talking and not tattooing.
