    Escape the Netherworld!

My first experience at an escape room and this place was highly immersive and so much fun! My family enjoyed it so much we went back a week later and played two more rooms! Highly recommend.

What a fabulous addition to the Netherworld complex. The escape rooms are ingenious, well designed and fun! Billy and Ben and their crew have done a great job bringing their haunt knowledge to the Escape room game and if you're a fan of either, you're really going to have a great time here. Unlike the haunt, these are open year around. Priced at $28 a person, it's a bit more expensive than others in the area, but the experience is far better than others I've done. Go! You really won't regret it.

We failed to kill the vampire inside the Nosferatu room on 11/5/2017. :(

I've played escape room games regularly over the last 4 years. At the time of writing this review, I've played 47 different rooms, mostly in the Atlanta area. I bring this up because I haven't been this excited about an escape room in a long time. Escape the Netherworld is definitely one of the best escape room businesses in metro Atlanta and it's currently my favorite. I can't wait to go back. Escape the Netherworld is from the same folks behind Netherworld Haunted House, Atlanta's most popular Halloween season attraction. Unlike the haunted house, Escape the Netherworld is open year-round. If you've ever been to Netherworld, you know it's a high-budget production created by people with years upon years of experience with props, makeup, special effects, etc. Netherworld has been featured in some big-budget Hollywood movies. What sets Escape the Netherworld apart from other escape games around town? The same outstanding production value from the haunted house are on full display at the escape game. The high quality, studio movie look and feel at Escape the Netherworld puts many other metro Atlanta escape game companies' rooms to shame. I was impressed with the quality of the room we did (Nosferatu) and didn't expect anything less from Netherworld. It costs $28 per person per 1-hour room. After taxes and booking fees, our group ended up paying $30.68 per person. This is roughly the standard going-rate for an escape room around town. However, several of the other businesses offer deals through marketplaces like Groupon, which significantly reduce the cost. I found no such discount or deal for Escape the Netherworld, so we had to pay full price. While I prefer not to pay full price at most escape rooms, I don't mind spending $30 at Escape the Netherworld because I think the production value is worth it. These guys do a great job. Like most escape games in the Atlanta area, Escape the Netherworld is located in a nondescript office building. This one's in Stone Mountain, about a 30-minute drive from the city. The production value is evident as soon as you step in the lobby. While most other escape room businesses' lobbies are fine, Escape the Netherworld has a huge, animated, light-up, talking statue of Zeus to greet you. Overall, the lobby is designed to look like the inside of an old haunted mansion, complete with dim lighting and eerie music and sound effects. It really helps to set the mood and tone. When we visited, there were 3 rooms: Haunted, Nosferatu, and Sasquatch. In Haunted, you're in a strange lab. In Nosferatu, you're in early 20th century England. In Sasquatch, you're in a remote cabin. Each room has a max of 8 players. If your group doesn't book all 8 slots for a room, you may have strangers join you. If you have a group of less than 8 and don't want strangers joining you, you can book a private game which costs more. Escape the Netherworld is the first escape room business I've noticed that offers a private game option. Nosferatu was awesome. Before we began the room, we were ushered into a different room where our game master introduced us to the game, explained the house rules, and took care of other housekeeping items. We each were given an envelope with a name tag, letter, and note inside. We each were assigned a name and a role as well as a special individual objective to complete. I've played other rooms with individual objectives, but it's not common. While individual objectives add a little bit extra to the game, in the grand scheme of things, I've found them mostly to be unmemorable and inconsequential to what you and your group are really trying to accomplish, which is solving the room itself. I can't talk about Nosferatu without describing things in the room, so if you don't want anything spoiled for you, don't read the spoiler section below. I won't reveal any clues, puzzles, or solutions. ***** Begin Spoilers ***** While this room wasn't as big or elaborate as other rooms I've done, the quality of the furniture, props, and other materials was very good. The 3 things I was most impressed with were: (1) The dead man lying on the ground. His face looked realistic. Super creepy. I loved it. (2) The corpse. Wow. It looked movie quality. (3) The look of the vampire and the special effects that happen when you kill it. Wow, again. These were some of the best props, makeup, and special effects I've seen in any escape room. There were a few jump scares, one of which elicited a legitimate scream out of me. ***** End Spoilers ***** Unlike most other escape rooms, the clue gathering and puzzle solving in Nosferatu is non-linear, so it's best if your group divides and conquers. I thought the room was appropriately sized for 8 people. As is standard for escape rooms, we got to ask our game master for up to 3 clues if we got stuck. I look forward to returning and playing Haunted, Sasquatch, and whatever other rooms Escape the Netherworld has in store!

Tiki Island was so much fun!!! Same quality you'd expect from Netherworld but way more tame than the other rooms so even a wuss like me could enjoy it. The special effects were amazing and you really get pulled into the story of the room. My husband and I escaped with :32 left (just the two of us) with a little help from game master T who is an absolute angel. She was incredibly helpful and encouraging through our game play and genuinely wanted us to succeed. Tiki Island is definitely a challenge as there are a lot of puzzles to complete. I recommend having a group of 4 seasoned players to get out in time. A new room is opening up so we will absolutely be back!

Zeus here to greet you (or smite you if you lose)

If you are a fan of escape rooms and a fan of Netherworld Haunted House, you MUST give Escape The Netherworld a try! You will not be disappointed. I'll do my best to give a thorough review without spoilers below: LOCATION: Located in an unassuming office park, you might have to do some hunting to find this place the first time. Perhaps because they are a new venue, the signs are small and not eye-catching. I'm sure that as things get going, they'll get something more visible upon approach. PARKING: Plenty! STAFF/ PEOPLE: Friendly, engaging, and seemingly enthusiastic about their games! Our Gamemaster was easy to communicate with, polite, helpful, and seemed to have almost as much fun playing Gamemaster as we did playing the room. GAME- QUALITY: If you're familiar with Netherworld Haunted House, you know that these folks have a good reputation for phenomenal production quality. This continues to be true for their escape room design. The room we booked ("HAUNTED") was chalk full of stunning visuals, props, and effects, making it one of my favorite escape room experiences. GAME- PRICE: Coming it at around $28/person, Escape the Netherworld is pricier than other escape rooms, but infinitely better, and therefore, merits the extra couple dollars. GAME- THEMING: Unlike other escape rooms in the metroplex, it is clear that story & theming were priorities for the game designers here. We walked into "HAUNTED" and were immediately transported- you will very quickly forget that you are in an office building in Stone Mountain. Every prop and puzzle fit nicely with the theme so as not to detract from the immersive storyline. After it was all over, it was difficult for me to "go back to reality". GAME- FLOW: The game flow was designed such that multiple puzzles can be worked on simultaneously, eliminating the awkward "standing around" that sometimes happens in escape rooms. Only for a couple minutes out of the hour did I feel totally useless- otherwise, it seemed everybody had a "project." It was also evident that the series of events we had to go through were well planned out. There were very few snags in the puzzles, allowing for smooth game play. It is obvious that they played these rooms themselves several times, working out the kinks, before opening it to the public. GAME- CREATIVITY: I was skeptical about signing up for yet another "mad scientist" themed room, but "HAUNTED" was truly unlike any other room I've done. As mentioned before, the production quality was top notch, but the creativity of puzzle design was also quite impressive. If you do enough escape rooms, you start to see the same puzzles over and over, but Escape the Netherworld offered a variety of puzzles I've never seen before. How refreshing to see a company try something new rather than the "same ol' same ol". FINAL THOUGHTS: Stone Mountain might not be right around the corner from you, and $30 might seem pretty steep for an hour's worth of entertainment, BUT I would encourage you to give this place a try. I cannot wait to try another room here.

We took our Atlanta Movie Tours team for a team building event and couldn't have been more thrilled with the entire event and our game master Zach, who was a hoot! The new location is massive and while we only had time to do The Haunted escape room, we can't wait to try out the other 2 and they're working on more. Highly recommended!

Walking up...we actually had a hard time finding the entrance the GPS kept dropping us off by a field

Did the Haunted By the Night Hag. There were 8 people in the room and plenty of space for everyone to work in small groups solving puzzles. We almooooost got out but it was FUN! Also went through the museum portion which was not very big but interesting if you read the exhibits and can stomach a bit of horror.

As someone who is a big scaredy-cat, I asked my friend to call to see if live actor was scary, and they assured us that it was not scary. I can say that they were true to their word! We had Tanner as our live actor / guide through the experience. He was very immersive and passionate about the role. This was my first time doing a room with a live actor, so I don't have a point of comparison. I personally didn't like the way clues were given, but others may appreciate the banter and silly actions Tanner was doing to lead us in the right direction. I thought the addition of "crisis" moments was a clever way to reward strong players. My main issue with the room was that it was linear. At no point were two groups of people working on something simultaneously. That means that if you have more than three people, some members may be standing around. There was also one puzzle that is solved solely by trial-and-error, which is poor design. For the price, I had higher expectations in production value. The best part of The Grand Zeppelin was the ending, and I do want to commend Tanner for providing us with an immersive experience!
