Food: 4.5/5 Service: 4.7/5…read moreValue: 4.7/5 Our first stop in Queenstown and it was a beautiful, sunny afternoon, making the gorgeous patio of Atlas Beer Cafe an optimal place to be. We wanted to go to fergburger, but was recommended that this place was actually better. After tasting both, I don't quite agree with that take, but Atlas was still darn good, and there were places to sit, relax, and enjoy the day, which is a way better vibe Fergburger. Pork belly: a glutinous app that is definitely only for those who like high amounts of fat. The fat section was more than typical and had a great jello-esque texture with a crispy outside, perfect for pork belly. The sauce was also nicely sweet and sticky, just adding to the whole texture of the dish. Again this dish is not for those who are just wanting to "try" pork belly. Grilled Cheeseburger: The burger was great, no doubt about it. Double patty, double cheese, caramelized onions, just a classic combo done well. If you're looking for a great burger with a great view, come here, and grab a beer to pair along with it! All that being said, the meat was just not as seasoned and the depth of flavors weren't quite there compared to Fergburger. If you were forced to go to only one of these places, I would still try Fergburger.F

It is a very small place (especially when it's rainy and you can't sit outside). We met a local that knew the owner and was just so fun to talk to. We covered everything from good places to eat, the New Zealand culture and life in general. He gave us a few ideas on what we could try to do (although even he said it is tough to find things as Queenstown offers mainly outdoor adventures). The beer and the selection was pretty good and the staff was friendly. We enjoyed all the random items all over the walls. Very nice and causal place, overlooking the river.

Main course was Venison loin. I can't say enough about how good the food was. Epic cheese platter with a Kiwi dessert red to pair for dessert. Our waiter, Sam, was everything you would want in a server. Knowledgeable, helpful, and gracious. It's a large place. We sat in leather upholstered wingback chairs -- very comfortable. My only criticism is that there isn't one in the U.S.

I ordered the French onion soup for an entree, the venison for the main plus the duck fat potatoes. Hands down the French onion soup was the most delicious thing I had all night, and probably in my two weeks in New Zealand. It was fantastic. The venison came out. Great presentation. But even with the sauces that it came with--the exception being the *two* bits of onion that came with the meal--it was very average. Not bad. It was cooked well. Rare as the chef suggested. But there was little there there. Definitely not as flavorsome as the French onion soup which set my expectations really high. Then the duck fat potatoes--are just potatoes? Like, literally chucks of potatoes (cooked well) but without any seasoning. No sauce. Nothing. Very bland potatoes. So in the end you had this really clunky meal that wasn't overwhelmingly delicious. It was just good. But this is meant to be a bit of an upscale joint for Queenstown, so it misses the mark. The exception to all of this mediocrity was the service. The service was impeccable. I should note there was a bit of time between the starter & the main but that's probably more of a back of the house issue. They do know how to cook things well, so I think if you come here for a steak, you probably won't be terribly disappointed. I expected a bit more. All that said, I would come back and drink gallons of that soup.

Once at the top, everything is clearly signposted, with access to the Ben Lomond Track trailhead as well as the luge. We opted for the 3 luge ride package, which was the minimum number of rides that you have to do. The process is well organized, with separate lines for first-timers and returning riders. On our first run, we received a quick safety briefing and after that, we were off! There were two tracks you can choose from for the ride down. Overall, it was a really fun experience, and we had a great time!

They do a gondola and 3+ luge pass that was so much fun. One thing I'll caveat though is the clientele and safety is much more reckless and lax than the Rotorua location. There were a few times when customers stopped completely on the track or rear-ended other customers, which was really concerning. My mother-in-law got rear ended pretty hard at the finish by a reckless customer, which was really scary. There's only 2 tracks currently open and you can get some air on the dart track. They're doing a lot of construction on the tracks, so hopefully they add more tracks soon. If I were to do the luge again, I'd do the Rotorua location since the tracks are longer and more scenic and seems safer.
