Went to Escape New Haven and played Double Crossed. We took a group of high school students as a reward trip and to say they had a blast was an understatement. The woman who worked with us was kind, but very reserved. Do not mistake it for anything other than quiet. She was incredibly helpful to the kids and kind. The room, as always, was so intricate and well thought out. This is easily one of the best escape room venues I've ever been to. Super fun experience and would highly recommend for anyone who likes games, mysteries, or just a fun and unique night out! I booked the Double Cross escape room for my birthday with a few friends. There were 5 of us with varied escape room experience ranging from none to limited. I have always shied away from escape rooms because I don't like being frightened by highly suspenseful situations or surprises, but Mike, our host for the game, patiently went over all of the expectations and assured us beforehand that this room was not considered scary, nothing and no one would be jumping out at us, and we could simply open the door and leave at any time. After being put at ease, we entered the room and had a total blast! The puzzles inside were just the right level of challenge to be fun yet satisfying, and Mike was great - he made his support over a two-way radio known but not pervasive, and was very respectful in offering, but never pushing, tips when we were stuck on a particular puzzle or clue. The room - both decor and technology - felt of good quality and clean, comfortable, and well kept - it is clear this place is managed by good hands and is a labor of love - there were so many fun and thoughtful details to really keep you immersed in the game/story for the full hour, and everything worked smoothly. After the game we had a chance to go over the room elements and ask questions about how things worked - and our host seemed genuinely interested in any feedback we had to continue to improve the room for future players. In short, the time flew by and we all left in great spirits, ready to try more of what ENH has to offer! read more

Time: Jan 2023 A fine establishment! Even the non-room areas were very on theme, and you can tell that they put a lot of thought into curating their space. When you first go enter the store front, you have to go down a flight of stairs. You'll see posters of all the room themes they offer and you will also see a couple of monitors for you to sign an online waiver. They had really cute, type writer themed keyboards!! There's also some merch you can buy, and a map with a bunch of pins detailing where players have come from. The lobby/waiting room was also in-theme, and they had score boards with some of the local top times. Their coat room was a joy-- with vintage board games decorating the wall as wallpaper. I found my experience super fun and fulfilling. We played their most challenging room: Before Moonrise (three rooms)! The puzzles were also very well thought out! It was challenging enough where you do have to think and try several possibilities, but there was never an impossible mental leap. It was also created in a way that allowed us work together as a team because the puzzle set ups weren't linear. Our team could split up to work on separate pieces that would eventually come together. I also love escape rooms because of the team building aspect; various members would step in if they thought they saw a potential solution to the puzzle. The storyline was coherent and the puzzle answer pieces were nicely spaced such that we solved most pieces before the next room, but still had a couple puzzles that we would have to rely on stuff from the previous room for. The special effects were also wonderful! We definitely exercised our flight-or-fight response a couple of times! We finished the room within the last minute (time limit was 60min). The game moderator was also very experienced and knew how to help us in a way that still made the game challenging and satisfying to solve. He would offer us clues if we were stuck for too long, which definitely helped us with the time management. I also appreciated the debriefing session afterwards so we could ask about some things we thought were puzzles but ended up not being anything or about the other potential endings. Overall, it was a very very fun experience! I would definitely come back for another room. read more

We had an absolutely great experience at Escape New Haven! We had a team of 4 of us, three adults and one 10 year old, none of us had done an escape room before. Most of the group was super excited, I was a little more reserved in my anticipation. I'd seen that only 30% actually finish, and that you shouldn't go into it expecting to finish, and I was curious about the difficulty level. Well what that 30% finish percentage doesn't tell you is what percentage of people get MOST of the way there! Our group dove right in, each person added different input and perspective on solving the puzzles, our 'engineer' gave us a couple of hints when they were needed (haha don't get ahead of yourselves!). Finally, We got to do it! ... you have to book these way in advance..they are always running full, you'll be able to squeeze in with other groups if you are 1-2ppl but if your party is greater than that I recommend you make an appointment a couple of weeks ahead atleast. They are so much fun. The complexity of the puzzles itself was not too hard as much as figuring out what exactly needs to be done. We did the "Game show" room.. if you have a whole group participation you surely will be able to break out way before the end of your time. They are very similar to the escape room game apps that you can download on your phone but being able to physically solve these puzzles is another experience in itself. I had team bonding with my softball team at Escape New Haven and we had a blast here! I have been to multiple "escape the rooms" at different areas and this experience was my favorite out of all of them. There was a bunch of us that went so we all split up into different teams and rooms. My team did the game show room and it a cool concept. I enjoyed the thought that went into the theme and how you really had to work together to solve the challenges presented at hand. Unlike escape the rooms I have been to before, I really enjoyed how there could be multiple tasks going on at once but it all came together. We played Before Moonrise with four players and were impressed by the unique puzzles and challenges. Many escape rooms are just locks upon locks - there were very few locks in this game and the puzzles were so well done and quite sophisticated. We had a large group for a company event and utilized the Space Station. They allowed 9 of us in, but fire codes prevented our 10th player so the boss stayed out and watched us from the cameras (which he quite enjoyed). This place looks really fantastic, especially in the beginning scene. It is a great team building event as various skillsets and strengths of the players will come into place. It's cool to see the ideas that come out to resolve issues and how people can come together. The puzzles were really well conceived and the event was enjoyable. We failed - we probably needed another 15-20 minutes to complete it. It was hard! I'd suggest this room for people who have done puzzle rooms before -I was the only one who'd been in one before so a lot of time was lost before people realized that you really have to look at everything closely and think outside the box. I think if we had done an easier one first and worked up to it - we totally would've succeeded! Still fun! I've been to 3 different escape style rooms in 3 different states now. I was apprehensive because a. I'm super competative but didn't want to get impatient with my fam if we were all working on a team b. I wasn't sure if it was going to be horror themed and I hate haunted houses. I was wrong, WE HAD A BLAST. It was father's day and daddio wanted this for his bday. Teens and parents picked the room called the Crypt so we would be by ourselves with our team of 4. They gave us the schpeil on how not to breqak anything etc and how to know if we ere getting a hint from the staff or how to ask for one etc. I will not give anything away but it was very well done. Lots of connections to make and you really need to communicate with each other. We ended up solving within seconds of cut off time but full disclosure they gave us hints :/ we will do it again! My friends birthday was coming up so we decided to celebrate with an escape room, The Crypt. We had originally played Before Moonrise in March for my birthday. We did both rooms virtually and our host Mike was absolutely wonderful and the reason why we came back. Very enjoyable hour. We were in the Art Gallery. Unfortunately, we didn't escape but we had lots of fun trying. The staff was really great. We got clues when we got stuck and they took the time at the end to allow us to finish (with his help). The hour flew by. You have to think outside the box and be good at puzzles but it a lot of fun to work through the challenge with a group of friends. Just played their Gallery game (Escape Anywhere version) via Zoom today with 3 co-workers and we were all really impressed! The personable game host did an amazing job making you feel like you were actually in the game room with him and incorporated into the story line, everything in the room was positioned easily to interact with and well lit, the flow was smooth and well paced, no one stepped on each others toes trying to solve the puzzles, and everyone got their fair share of puzzle solving. I must say, after playing another "virtual escape" with another company, my expectations were pretty low and this company blew it out of the park! We did the Before Moonrise this weekend and it was just okay. We've done other escape rooms before and loved them so we were super excited about this one but we were underwhelmed. We didn't finish it, which is fine, but when the gentleman came into the room the show us the few steps we had left I noticed one of the clues was broken and we would have never figured it out regardless (it was a clock that you set the time and a door opens.. when the worker did it, he was puzzled why the door didn't open and had to bang on the clock to un-jam it)... seems like regardless of the other clues, we wouldn't have completed this due to that technical difficulty out of our control. We also would have loved if there was more of a story or understanding, we didn't have much background or know our goal of the room. Overall it was fine, but we have been to better escape rooms. read more

My teenage daughter purchased 4 passes to the Crypt event for our family as a Christmas gift. We went this past Sunday evening. I cannot say enough good things about it! I've completed a number of other escape rooms and this was by far my favorite. The puzzles are so creative, the story line was very clever, and the rooms were very clean and easy to navigate. The gentleman that was running the event, Joe, was SO helpful, SO friendly, and you could tell he absolutely loved what he was doing. That can make all the difference - in any line of work. I cannot wait to go here again! I'm excited to check out the log cabin attraction. Joe was kind enough to give us a sneak peak (he made certain no spoilers!) - it looks sooo cool. I can't wait! I highly recommend this. It's very rewarding, super satisfying, and totally comfortable. The ONLY thing I'm hoping is they do lift the new "proof of vaccination" requirement very quickly. Will you succeed? Your very survival depends on it..." Oh how awesome this was!!! Upon arrival on a rainy Saturday was a friendly face aka our puppet master and mastermind, Adam. I have been wanting to do an Escape scenario for a while now and I had a BLAST! 60 minutes to solve puzzles, unlock every impossible lock imaginable, try to figure out some twisted riddles, and avoid opening clues in envelopes at all costs! My room mate and her boyfriend were tempted and kept asking if we could open a clue envelope but I would rather have perished in the poisonous gas than take the easy way out. Once we escaped at 54:28, Adam came to congratulate us and take our photo to celebrate. I cannot wait to go back and Escape another room! We managed to book a four person spot for the workshop escape room. I'm not going to ruin it for anyone so I'll stick to the before and afters mainly. We arrived, filled out the disclaimer, were given clearish instructions and then shown to the room we would be escaping from. Having been to other escape rooms I feel it could have been a little more creative. Though it was still fun. On escaping we were given a board to write our group name and time, which was posted on Facebook. Well, we came, we saw, but we did not conquer. Most importantly though, we had a great time! This Escape Room Game was certainly challenging and fun and keep us on our toes the whole time. The tour guides were clear about the rules, but definitely made us feel comfortable and reminded everyone that it was about having a good time. The puzzles ranged from the easy to difficult, and even with 7 of us we still ran out of time in the Studio. Apparently only a sampling of people have been able to make it through in the allotted time. This past weekend, I had the pleasure of attempting "The Crypt" Escape Room at Escape New Haven. We weren't sure what to expect as we hadn't been to Escape New Haven before, but the staff was friendly and informative, and the location had a ton of street parking. There were two of us and we were paired with another couple to make four. The people we were teamed with were excellent (luckily for us)! The story line, puzzles, and the room itself was done well and was definitely a challenge. "The Crypt" has to be one of the best rooms I've ever had the pleasure of escaping from! This was certainly fun, but I think they need to regroup. Maybe shut down for a week and spruce things up. In general the rooms seemed more beat up than other similar ventures I've been to and one malfunction ruined the finale. A bit more staffing high traffic shifts is also needed. Three large family groups and only one person to help? Overall the big disappointment was that we solved a puzzle but, due to a malfunction the it didn't open as it should have. We didn't know if we made a mistake. We tried repeatedly. Obviously our staffer wasn't watching us. I don't blame him, that's the companies fault being cheap and not booking a second person to help. When we finally were convinced we indeed had the proper combo, we radioed him we were told this jams all the time. They should really really fix that. Pretty disappointing and anticlimactic as the climax of the game. I really blame whoever is making the money off this place and not reinvesting it on both staff and equipment. read more

They opened a couple weeks before my birthday so I knew I had to get a group together to celebrate. Nine of us entered the Studio and we were the first team EVER to successfully complete it! We had so much fun! As only ~20% of teams escape, I didn't think we had a chance, but while it did come down to the 10 second countdown we made it out just in time! Honestly, the hardest part may have been finding the parking lot, but once we got in we found a welcoming host and some small games to keep us busy while we waited for everyone to get there. The only annoying part was redoing the waiver all over again even though we had completed it electronically. Once in the room, everyone split up and starting looking for clues. It was so much fun tearing up the room and figuring out all the puzzles. We had tons of fun and even if we didn't escape I'd be recommending Escape New Haven to my friends. Escape Room: Workshop The workshop is a room that allows 4 individuals to work together to escape from the room. I arrived with 3 of my friends and we were very excited to get started. The groups for all 3 rooms arrive at the same time and enter the room together. We were told that the workshop is the most difficult of the room because it required you to 'think outside of the box" more than the other rooms. We entered the room and immediately began to solve the various puzzles/clues. There are a lot of locks that need to be opened in the room. The time went by very quickly but happily we were able to finish the challenge and escape from the room. The escape allowed the 4 of us to work as team and we saw the individual strengths that each of us had. I've been to Escape New Haven twice now. The first was to experience The Crypt, my second escape room ever. My return visit was to experience The Game Show, my 27th room. The Crypt was fun for me and my family. The scenic elements weren't overly interesting or elaborate but felt appropriate given that you are mostly supposed to be in a dressing room or backstage. Having not done many other rooms around the country I wasn't aware of just how elaborate rooms could be, but even as newbies it still felt pretty sparse. Regardless, we found it to be a solid challenge and thought some of the puzzles were clever and it required a great amount of communication. As far as CT goes, was an overall fine room. Middle of the pack, nothing to rave about but got the job done and a fun way to spend an hour. Overall that room by itself would earn 3.5 stars. Having a lot of escape rooms under my belt, I was excited to return and try The Game Show, which had a description boasting "A tech-driven experience full of bright colors and flashing lights, with a competitive aspect that will keep you on your toes. We've taken some design risks, so keep an open mind and become the next contestant!" The prospect on a creative twist on the standard escape room format was enticing and I think in theory this room *could* have been really cool but unfortunately the execution left much to be desired. Everything felt home made. This can be fine, and even charming, in some rooms, but the room was being sold as something it was not. The "bright colors and flashing lights" amounted to flat painted walls with little decor, a few LED color strips and a set of different color lights akin to what a low rent DJ would bring to a high school dance gig. The "tech driven experience" involved a small monitor with a screen that had 80s-esque computer graphics and a clunky interface that didn't feel like you were figuring out puzzles so much as just pushing a few buttons are the right time. There was a lot of different mechanisms and game mechanics to learn quickly and it didn't add to the excitement so much as feel like we were getting really bogged down in learning rules. Ultimately the game show competition aspect of the room felt pointless and unsatisfying. There is a twist that happens, that I won't ruin for anyone still wanting to experience this, which I appreciated, though narratively it was questionable. What bumped this from a 3 star review down to 2 was that one piece of tech stopped working during the game. We had already figured out what we needed to do to solve that puzzle fairly early on and attempted to do so, but the tech wasn't working. A screen clearly rebooted and was just showing computer code not intended for the game. We attempted to get the attention of our game master multiple times and consistently for about 8-10 minutes before it was rectified. It was the second to last step in the room and it left us with 3 minutes to complete the final puzzle and it just wasn't enough time. When the game master came in after the time ran out, we told her about the issue and she insisted that it didn't affect our overall experience because she corrected it as soon as she realized. We said we had been trying to get her attention for a long time before anything happened and she said that no she fixed it right away and it didn't affect our game because there was still other things to work on. This is not true, many of us (since it was a group of 8) were left standing around feeling frustrated and waving at the camera. Had that issue been fixed sooner we would have started on the final piece much sooner and with plenty of time. Now I've been in rooms where things don't work before and I get that it's often a one time thing, but to have our concerns repeatedly dismissed was very disappointing. I don't know if she thought we were all going to demand a refund or something, but a simple acknowledgment that the tech failing was a bummer and perhaps offering us three minutes to finish it since we lost 8-10 would have been a totally fine way to resolve the issue. Our consolation was when we were told we figured out a puzzle without needing a single hint, which "nobody" ever does. Well if 99 teams out of 100 need a hint to solve a puzzle, that's a poorly designed puzzle. Which brings me to my main issue with Escape New Haven. It's just not a great overall customer experience. You walk into the reception area and you see the game room monitors not even half hidden by a folding wall. It's clear each room is not getting it's own dedicated game master, which really impacts the overall experience. There also just isn't any WOW factor. You are unceremoniously told the premise of the room by an employee before being brought into the room and the timer starts. There is no "ta-da!" moment upon completing the room (when we finished The Crypt we didn't even realize we had finished it until the employee came to get us). read more

Such a wonderful time. I went with 5 other people and we had an awesome time. We did the library room and the difficulty of the puzzles felt perfect for our group. The workshop room was amazing, and our time flew by. In our group of four, the puzzles allowed each one of us to play to our respective strengths in a variety of puzzle types. In working toward the final 'escape', the process was as collaborative and as individual as needed. I expected Escape New Haven to lean heavily toward a certain type of logic game, but ended up being delightfully surprised in its accessibility to the players, who are required to be creative beyond what any video game or craft kit can offer. The puzzles in our scenario were either very tricky, well hidden, or easy. I guess it does help to have played virtual escape games, since they help you think outside the box. I loved seeing the setup of the rooms, which involved artwork from local artists! Too bad that previous groups wrecked some of the artwork, though. We played The Crypt and had so much fun. All the puzzles are well thought out and the staff do an awesome job of helping you with clues if you get stuck or need a hand. And they walked us through the final puzzles (we got about 90% of the way) which I appreciated because I really wanted to know how it ended.
