Let me start by saying that Luciana was absolutely amazing for the lymphatic drainage massage. She was knowledgeable, kind, and made me feel very comfortable throughout the session. Unfortunately, my experience with the front desk left a lot to be desired. I've attached screenshots of our text exchange, where I was asked three separate times to change my appointment time. It was incredibly frustrating and felt very unprofessional. At one point, I almost canceled because of how disorganized it was. Another issue was the pricing. The website clearly states $80 for the massage, but in person I was charged $100. That kind of inconsistency is misleading and disappointing. The ambiance was just okay... nothing fancy or upscale, more of a basic setup. Because of the poor communication and the pricing issue, I honestly do not think I will be returning, which is a shame given how great Luciana was.

They offered me water and tea, showed me around the space, and made me feel comfortable right away. The spa itself was spotless. Everything was exceptionally clean, well-maintained, and had such a peaceful, calming atmosphere. It immediately put me at ease and made the entire experience even more enjoyable. Noel took the time to explain the crystals in the walls and encouraged me to sit in different areas to experience the unique energy they create. I thought that was such a thoughtful and interesting touch that made the experience feel even more special. My massage therapist, Brayden, was outstanding. He was incredibly kind, professional, and made me feel completely relaxed. Throughout the massage, he checked in several times to make sure the pressure was just right, which I really appreciated. It showed that he genuinely cared about making sure I was comfortable and enjoying the experience. After the massage, Brayden brought me a cup of water and walked me back to the sitting area, which was a nice finishing touch. Overall, the entire experience was peaceful, welcoming, and relaxing. The staff truly goes above and beyond to make you feel cared for. I highly recommend this place, and I'll definitely be coming back!

From the moment my treatment began, the body scrub attendant's demeanor felt cold and unwelcoming. Her tone of voice came across as harsh, and when she spoke to me, it was loud enough that other guests looked over. Since everyone is undressed during these treatments, that made me feel especially uncomfortable and vulnerable. The body scrub itself was much rougher than I expected. I wasn't asked whether the water temperature was comfortable, and the pressure felt unnecessarily aggressive rather than relaxing. I left feeling more sore than refreshed, which isn't what I expect from a spa treatment. This was also the second month in a row that I was assigned to the same body scrub attendant, even though I've never had her before and had always been treated by someone else in the usual wet room. It struck me as unusual, especially since I had previously noticed her speaking very harshly to other staff members. I'm sharing this feedback in the hope that it's taken constructively. I truly enjoy this spa overall, but I hope more attention is given to making every guest feel comfortable, respected, and cared for during their treatment.

Sometimes it's fine, sometimes it's "meh," and then every once in a while you find the one and cling to them for dear life until they inevitably disappear into the void. (RIP to my former favorites Riddhi and Sessie. Sessi, if you're out there, I miss you and my shoulders miss you even more.) BUT. Today?? Today I hit the absolute jackpot. Andy. Let me just say: if massages were an Olympic sport, Andy would have multiple gold medals, a sponsorship deal, and a documentary narrated by Morgan Freeman. I walked in feeling like a human knot. Not "a little tight," not "slightly sore"--no, I was basically a walking pretzel who had made several poor life choices. I walked out feeling like I had been gently reset to factory settings. Like...who authorized this level of transformation?? First of all, he LISTENS. I mentioned a couple of problem areas, and instead of doing the standard "nod and ignore," he actually focused on them like a highly trained muscle detective solving a crime. Every time I thought, "wow, that spot really needs work," he was already there, handling it like it personally offended him. Second--his technique?? Unfair. Illegal, even. The perfect balance of pressure, precision, and whatever sorcery he's clearly trained in. At one point I genuinely forgot what stress felt like. I may have briefly considered canceling all responsibilities and just living on that massage table forever. And the result? I floated out. Not walked--floated. I'm pretty sure I'm 30% lighter and 100% less cranky. Now here's the part where I struggle morally: I almost didn't write this review because I selfishly want to gatekeep Andy forever and keep his schedule wide open for me. But honestly...that feels illegal. The man is too good. The people deserve to know. Andy, if you ever leave, I will absolutely spiral and have to start this whole emotional journey over again. Please don't do that to me. 10/10. Life-changing. Book him immediately before he gets too famous and impossible to schedule... but like, respectfully, not before I get my next appointment.

Unfortunately, my recent experience was really disappointing. Since my friend wasn't available, I booked with a different therapist and asked for the deep tissue upgrade. Before we started, I clearly explained that I'm a distance runner and was looking for something between a sports massage and deep tissue: focused work, but not the kind of super intense pressure that leaves you sore for days. The massage therapist was so nice and I really thought we were aligned. But pretty quickly, something felt off. It took me a while to realize what it was, but there was no music playing at the start of the session. The therapist didn't turn it on until 20-30 minutes in, which made the whole beginning feel awkward and not very relaxing. There were also some basic details that were missed. I had forgotten to put my hair up, and instead of helping manage it (like placing a towel over it, which most therapists do) my hair kept getting caught and falling onto my neck. Rather than addressing it, the therapist just avoided working on my neck altogether which is an area that really needed attention. As for the massage itself, the technique just didn't meet expectations. At times it felt like the therapist was attempting pressure point work, but without enough pressure to actually be effective. I did mention that I could handle more pressure, but there wasn't much adjustment. Overall, it didn't feel like a deep tissue or sports massage, more like a very light, unfocused session that didn't address what I had communicated beforehand. I left feeling frustrated and honestly pretty upset that I had used my monthly massage on an experience that didn't meet my needs. I typically tip 20-30%, but this time I only tipped 15% because of how disappointed I was. I ended up sitting in my car afterward and crying because I was so frustrated--both that the massage didn't help when I really needed it, and that I hadn't been more assertive in the moment. To their credit, when I reached out afterward, a manager named Jamal was kind and responsive. However, he said he wasn't local to the Marina del Rey location and would pass my concerns along. That was a week ago, and I haven't heard anything since. The lack of follow-up only adds to the frustration. Since I'm locked into a 6-month membership, I'll have to give it another try, but moving forward I'll likely only book with my friend and won't continue after my contract ends. Overall, this experience didn't match the level of quality or professionalism I expected from a place with Burke Williams' reputation.

In three decades in this profession, I have never encountered anything quite like this. I had frequented this business repeatedly and had seen this particular therapist many times. I appreciated her work enough that I returned and booked a two-hour massage with her. I was subsequently informed that my appointment had been canceled because I did not "tip enough." Let that sink in. A gratuity is, by definition, voluntary. It is not part of the agreed-upon price of a service, nor should continued access to a therapist be contingent upon meeting some undisclosed expectation for additional compensation. If a business or therapist requires a particular amount above the advertised rate, then that amount should be reflected transparently in the price of the service--not enforced after the fact through cancellation of a returning client. Whether this reflects a management problem in which therapists are not being adequately compensated, or simply the expectations of an individual therapist, I cannot say. What I can say is that management apparently allowed a longtime returning client to be refused service because of an allegedly insufficient gratuity. As someone who has spent 30 years in this profession, I find that deeply unprofessional and contrary to the spirit of what gratuity is supposed to mean. For the record, I tipped 20% on my previous two-hour massage. But the amount is ultimately beside the point. I have treated countless people over the course of my career, some of whom tipped generously, some modestly, and some not at all. I have never "fired" a client because I decided their gratuity wasn't sufficient. Massage therapy is a professional service. Charge what your work is worth. Pay your therapists what their work is worth. But don't advertise one price and then quietly impose an unwritten financial test on clients afterward. After being a frequent customer of this business, I will not return.

Made an appointment over a week in advance for a massage, and I don't know how many times they asked me to confirm, once I had already confirmed. Annoying and unnecessary; if I confirm, it's confirmed, stop calling and texting. 2. Was told to arrive 30 minutes early (which is the norm at any spa) so I called back right after making a 10 am appt (since they open at 10) to ask about arriving half an hour early. She confirmed that they open their doors at 9:30 am, so that was fine. 3. Arrived at 9:32 am, asked the concierge if she could direct me to the spa. She told me to do down the hallway to the elevators and take it down to the ballroom level. I did. I exited the elevator and looked for signs to the spa: there were none. I walked to the left and saw a door to the outside, leading to the pool, so I went the other direction, and started walking down the other hall, but saw nothing. Still no spa signs. I went back to the elevator and waited to see if anyone would come by, and finally a lady came out of a door (possibly an employee?) so I asked her if she knew where the spa was. She pointed to the first place I went and said "towards the outside." I said, "Oh, I already went there, thank you." She left and I proceeded toward the outside. NOTHING. I finally went OUTSIDE and lo and behold, there was an entrance to the gym and spa near the pool. Who knew? This was actually OUTSIDE, not toward the outside, ugh. 4. After wandering around for all this time, it was now 9:37 am, the lights were out and no one was at the desk and the glass doors to the spa were closed. I stood there waiting, and waiting, and waiting. I finally decided to call the front desk of the Ritz and ask if anyone was coming to the spa, when the lady who told me to go "towards the outside" arrived from inside the spa and opened the doors. Why she didn't tell me that no one was there, or she would be with me soon when she knew I was going to the spa, is beyond me. I told her that I was told the spa opened at 9:30 and she said that it does, but the opener didn't come in (no apology for the wait or confusion.) 5. She had me sit in a little room to fill out the ipad questions, and I was shocked to see a pile of boxes like it was a storage room (see pic.) Honestly, this did not feel like a 5 star experience, it was a disaster. 6. Same woman took me to the tiny locker room and quickly showed me how to use the locker and where the toilets and showers were and was gone. Luckily, I showered at home before arriving or I would not have had time to shower due to not being able to get into the spa on time. I was really surprised at the size of the facilities. I've never seen one so small in a (supposed) 5 star hotel. 7. Thankfully, my massage was good and Sarah was very pleasant. 8. I used the shower (the water was coming out of the wall more than the showerhead, which I had to report to the front desk when I checked out.) Looked for a sauna, but only saw a steam room (what 5 star spa doesn't have a dry sauna?) 9. The pool area was beautiful, but there were plastic cups, a menu and another item (which probably blew onto the ground) when I first arrived, but I figured staff would come by and pick them up. While I saw staff walking back and forth a lot, when I went to leave over an hour later, everything was still on the ground. I picked it all up. (Note: while we were on the lounge chairs, no one ever asked me, or a lady next to me, if we needed anything or to check on us.) 10. When I was ready to leave, I looked for a swimsuit spinner and plastic bags, but couldn't find any. Had to walk out of the locker room carrying a wet swimsuit! They said they didn't have a spinner, but gave me a plastic bag. It's like their first day running a spa, I did not have a relaxing experience, tbh. 11. NOTE: when I was in the locker room, two other ladies were discussing the sauna, so I said, "Oh you found it?" so one lady took me to the steam room and said, "Here it is." I explained that I was looking for a dry sauna, but took the opportunity to ask them if they found the spa easily (it was their first time, too.) They both exclaimed, "No!" and said how they wandered around for a long time trying to find it! When I checked out, I asked at the front desk about signs and the lady said, "Oh it's the digital display when you come out of the elevator, you just have to wait for it to show." Seriously? Someone is going to come out of an elevator and watch a series of advertisements, waiting for directions to the spa? (see pic) NO ONE IS GOING TO KNOW TO DO THIS, how difficult is it to get one SIGN?! 12. Overall, I would NOT recommend this spa. The people need to be better trained, the facilities are bare bones (only two showers and I believe one hair dryer, no sauna, no suit spinner, bags, etc.) The best thing about my experience is that I went to UOVO afterwards for lunch and it was insanely good.
