I walked past Escapade and the displays in the window simply beckoned me in. Escapade are serious about costumes and their wide range of stock proves it. Available is a wide range of characters from TV and film such as The Simpsons, Rocky Horror and Flintstones which in many cases include an outfit and a rubber mask to fully immerse yourself into a character. A lot of these costumes will attract serious attention at parties. Accessories such as wigs, make up and other basics are available at the front of the shop too for those who don't wish to get too dressed up or who just want to add a few finishing touches to their costume. The shop is spacious and easy to browse your way through with the stock all displayed clearly with lots of sections to explore. The staff are very helpful and seem to enjoy their work which adds a fun atmosphere to the place. The prices are also reasonable and not out of the price range of most people. With Dress up being my most favourite hobbie on earth, even my mum will vouch I change my outift seven times a day! It is probally the largest fancy dress shop I have seen, with pretty much everything you could want, the massive furry suits which make you about 8 feet in height, with heads so big you think your neck might break Whips, ears, noses, tails, swords, oooo and lots of wigs! i like wigs, maybe its a girlie girl thing.. but theres something so fun about choosing ' ooo! what hair will I have tonight?' Oh Escapade, do I give you 3, 4 or 5 stars?! Because I can't really decide, I'm going to sit in the middle and hit 4. This shop used to be based further down in Camden, and was tiny - now it is HUUUUUUUUGE! Seriously, any costume or prop or accessory you could possibly want, is sold here! I left with 2 wigs (I am not going to disclose what they are, as they are a surprise, only to be revealed on and around Halloween! :P) and some fake blood. They were kinda average-to-a-bit-pricier-than-I-wanted-to-pay but I am pleased with what I bought, so I'm just gonna suck it up and forget about the money. Hmmm, one thing that was a little annoying, was when I asked one of the staff if there were any wigs anywhere else in the shop, apart from on the wall at the front, and he said no. The kind of wig I was after (ok, ok, this wont give my costume away, so: a short blonde curly wig) was not anywhere to be seen on this front wall so I started to feel a bit disheartened. Then, I wandered around a little bit and found the wig I was looking for in a different aisle. Shame on you, Escapade employee, for not knowing your shop and stock well enough! The other gripe I had - I had to QUEUE to get in. Are you kidding me? I had to queue to get into a fancy dress shop? The worst part was, that I did it. But, damnit, I was getting a little desperate to get the final items for my costume, and in the end, it was worth it to queue. The only embarrassing point was when someone came up to me to ask what was going on in the shop ("is there a celebrity in there or something?") and I had to admit that the whole line of people that went round the building, were in fact, just waiting to get into the shop to buy Halloween supplies! Not visited shop but ordered on line a witch outfit fir my niece. the ordering on the net was easy to use and delivery time was quick. The outfit Is good quality and looked amazing however the lights in skirt was not working even with new batteries. Phoned up and they then discovered there was a manufacturer fault with all of them. This did not impress me however they did then in the end refund me the complete value of item and said I could keep it for the time and trouble of going out getting new batteries etc and due to manufacture fault on item. So the customer service is brilliant and they do really listen and care about solving issues. read more

I tried to avoid this store at all costs, but was at a wall in finding a proper feather duster for a french maid costume. Wandering in past the mannequins of the Mad Hatter, a giant creepy looking pig and I dream of Jeannie-esque arab costume (we all know that arab nations would never allow Barbara Eden in their countries wearing that costume...unless she was going to a brothel for a ruling sheikh. or Dubai, the land of debauchery..but I digress). I got a bit lost trying to find the accessories, but once I figured the layout out, I ralized it was actually quite intelligently laid out. Accessories are up the stairs. Wigs on the first floor and downstairs for all the extensive body costumes and sexy times costumes. I would have only given it 3 stars, because paying £5 for a bloody feather duster is ridiculous but their selection is quite extensive and impressive (and it was a NICE feather duster). I wished I'd gotten over by aversion to the store in time for halloween two years ago, when I ventured to Angel's fancy dress in Covent Garden...a HIGH improvement over THAT place. This is a very popular and organised store, and the staff are very friendly and helpful despite how busy it can get at times. Their website too, is well presented and easy to navigate, and you could look on there first and call them before you make the trip to Camden itself. The range is extensive, and the costumes are affordable and good quality, between £30-£40 for most. You can also just hire if you like, but be sure to get there early for popular dates like Halloween. There's also a ton of accessories, wigs and party goods. My personal favourites are the ballerina gorilla outfit and the gingerbread man from Shrek, just waiting for my fancy dress invitation! read more

Taking a look around you can get many different ideas, almost spoilt for choice you might say. It is in the centre of Camden town which is fantastic as Camden has so much to offer with its huge variety of vintage clothing and the food.well you are always spoilt for choice. I feel this shop is in a perfect location as it fits in with the atmosphere and theme created by this part of London. You can get absolutely anything from a playboy costume to a superhero,even a multi-coloured wig. I was so stressed out when I was invited to a superhero party I didn't have a clue what to wear, so I went on loads of different websites and this one just stood out. It's really useful that you can order on line but I think it is best that you go and take a look yourself the whole experience is fantastic. AVOID THIS COMPANY bought outfit for Halloween on Wednesday and paid an extra SEVENTEEN pounds for Saturday delivery. Come Saturday no sign of the package and their customer services were closed. Escapade Fancy Dress doesn't give a damn about their customers once funds are in their accounts. I ordered goods from them, paying their exorbitant delivery fees to ensure that what I had ordered would arrive with ample time to spare prior to us needing them. However, the delivery date came and went... no order and not a boo from Escapade. Now, I have dealt with other online stores with higher than normal delivery charges and my experience with them have gone one of two ways: 1) Goods arrive on or before the promised delivery date, or 2) Receive an email or call informing me of the delay and offering options regarding the order. Not the case with Escapade. I had to contact them via email as their telephone number appeared not to be working. I emailed them on the day after the expected delivery, then three days later informing them that I NO LONGER WANTED OR NEEDED the order, and then again the next day (now to all the listed email addresses on their website). Finally a response after 6 days spinning sob stories and offering a refund of my delivery fees - obviously caring more about their bank balance than dealing correctly with customer service. I DON'T WANT IT ANY MORE!!!! Now I have to return it and hope that I will be refunded for the order and full delivery costs. Stay away - even if it costs more elsewhere, it will work out far cheaper in the end! read more

SHOCKING SERVICE - no pun intended!!!! I had an urgent order (worth £350) that I needed to be delivered next day for my boss so I called and spoke to the online sales customer service team at Escapade Fancy Dress. They said that as long as my order was placed by 3pm that it would be delivered the next day. I placed my order in the nick of time and got my order confirmation at 14:29. I then called to make sure they had received it in time and was told yes and that it would be delivered the next day. The end of the next day was soon approaching so then called them again to ask about my order. I was only then told that my payment had only been processed at 15:01 the previous day and had therefore missed the cut off and would now take two days to arrive which is totally ridiculous, especially after I had called especially to check and was told that I had made the cut off. The lady I spoke to refused to do anything to make amends or give me a refund on my postage (I paid for next day delivery and didn't get it) and was not very polite or apologetic. This is appalling service, especially for a customer who is spending a lot of money. I think, if anything, a little bit of polite and friendly customer service would've gone a long way and I would not have even written this review had I been given the correct information or have been showed a little compassion. I tried for 3 hours to get through via phone (as no reply by email) and when I finally did they told me the reason nothing has been delivered was because the costumes were not in stock (had already taken money from my account 10 days before) however no one had let me know. Great selection of fancy dress outfits. Most of them are the pre-packaged popular outfits. I recently went before Halloween and it was super busy. If you are going to get a Halloween outfit go in advance as alot of the outfits were sold out. We managed to get a couple of vampire capes and bought some fake blood to complete the outfits. read more

Terrible customer service, this is the second time I have ordered from this company and the second time I did not get my item in time for when I needed to use it for. I ordered various items which valued as an £80 order and paid £12 for next day delivery, the item did not come yesterday and I called before close of business to find out the progress of the parcel to be informed that Royal Mail had a "back log" and they stated it would be delivered today, they issued me with a tracking number. However, no delivery has been received today and the delivery man stated there would be no further deliveries today, I called Royal Mail to check on my parcel and they have no record of the delivery number, I also asked about the "back log" to the delivery driver and to the representative from Royal Mail on the telephone and they both stated the information I had been given from Escapade was incorrect, there was no such issues. As stated this is the second time I have ordered and the second time the item did not arrive when it should have. Unreliable, dishonest service, avoid. read more

Totally agree with Nik N's review. Bought a wig on friday, long queue at the till so did not try it on - my car was on a meter and I was confident that the shop's return policy would mirror that of their online store. Got home, tried wig on only to find that it was an exceptionally small fit so drove back to Escapade within 24 hours with goods and receipt only to be told by the duty manageress (a different one it seems, a magenta clad fairy to whom customer service is obviously an annoying diversion standing in the way of some higher vocational calling) that I could neither obtain a refund nor exchange the item - there was no point in me exchanging it anyway because wigs only came in one size. Never mind the fact that I might have wanted to exchange it for something else! I was so annoyed I left everything on the counter and walked out. Won't be going there again, especially as I have since found out that most of their stuff is also available at a fraction of the price from a variety of ebay sellers. read more

I placed an order with escapade and paid a large amount of money to guarantee Saturday delivery for a Halloween party I had. Saturday arrived and no costume. I went online to track the order and found that it hadn't even left the warehouse. We ended up not attending the party and our weekend was ruined. I e-mailed Escapade to complain and cancel the order before it left the warehouse and to have my card refunded. I received no response from them. The following Wednesday my order arrived with an item missing. Later that day I received an e-mail to state that one item was out of stock. Once again I e-mailed escapade to complain and to organise a return of my goods and full refund. 10 days later I haven't had any form of response from Escapade about my order. I am absolutely disgusted in the customer service from this company. I haven't even opened the package that arrived from them. I don't recommend using them at all however if you do, don't waste your money on priority delivery, it wont make any difference to when your goods arrive. read more

watch out for the manager of this shop with regards to returns. the other staff are very nice and helpful but having bought a cigarrette holder which was too wide to hold a cigarette i took it back the nexct day with a fag to show them. in the queue i noticed a sign that said 'no returns on :... blah blah....then a long list'. i thought surely i will get a refund as the product is faulty, the cigarette just drops right out, right? nope. i had to argue till i was blue in the face, and i was told it was 'just a novelty product' over and over. i kept up, and kept stating that it had to at least hold the cigarette. the manager accused me of chewing the end of the holder before bringing it back, and the whole thing was getting quite upsetting, especially as it was only over £2.50 and i just wanted to swap it for a different holder that was tapered. in the end he swore at me, then shouted at the poor guy working there to 'just effign refund it' then then threw the faulty holder on the floor. it was really embarrasing and i will not be going back there again. read more
