I was in need of a 1920's costume for a fancy dress party. My go to in the past had always been Angel, where the staff are pleasant and incredibly helpful. When I entered this store, I was directed upstairs to the very limited and tired selection of dresses. No one stayed upstairs to help me or answer any question. Mind you, this is 5:30pm and the store was EMPTY. I pulled a few things to try, and given that I was short on time to find something better I chose something I could add accessories to and "work with".
I ended up renting gloves for an extra £5 with my outfit. These were handed to me by one of the two owners/managers. I honestly didn't think to try them...I would have thought he would check before handing them to me, or suggest I check them if he hadn't. It was 27 degrees out that day, so the first thing on my mind was not to try on a pair of gloves to check they were one of each hand. When you buy shoes in a shop, the salesperson usually checks both sides to ensure you don't end up w yep left shoes...I was, naively presuming the same here.
Needless to say, I received two left gloves. I didn't realise the error until I the evening of the event, which was not even in London! I returned the costume promptly at the one week mark, at which time I pointed out the error. The other older gentleman (also presuming he's an owner) was there at this time. He blamed ME for not trying the gloves, and was not only rude and insulting but also refused to refund me the £5 extra I paid for the accessory. Trivial in expense, but out of principal I don't think it was an unreasonable request. The level of rude behaviour and unprofessionalism I experienced when I returned to the shop was absolutely uncalled for. I will not ever frequent this shop again, nor would I recommend them to anyone looking for a fancy dress costume. Spend a little extra and go to either Academy Costume or Prangsta instead!! read more
