We wanted our wedding photographs to be highly creative and unbelievably elegant, Erum delivered exactly that. A week before the wedding we had a detailed meeting with her for planning timeline of events, things we would/wouldn't be comfortable with, details of venue, entrance, lights, group shots etc.; she listened to all our requests, made a plan and made the whole experience as comfortable as it could possibly get. We also had a request for outdoor shooting for which Erum researched the area, found a great location, fit it into our day's plan and got some amazing shots there as well. I'm someone who believes in karma and doing good. I turthly didn't want to leave a comment because I believe in forgiveness, but I thought about it and decided to let others know of my experience with Erum. After all a wedding is a very important and special day. I got married last year, and did not have a good experience with Erum. After our wedding we didn't hear from her for months. We tried calling, emailing and texting her and finally heard back months after. Our wedding photos were delivered electronically 6-months after our wedding. Our USB drive, with our high resolution photos, was delivered almost a month after that. One issue that I was upset about was the fact that we did not have family formal photos and I as the bride do not have a photo of myself alone with my dress elegantly. I was told later by her that we did not give her a shot list, but it's a wedding... What photographer doesn't shoot family formals? We are taking our family formals with our family this summer, but NOT WITH HER. Honestly the thing that upset me most was the lack of communication and service. Your wedding photographer should respond to calls, texts and emails... Again I really didn't want to write a review, but it really has been bothering me inside... read more

I've had the pleasure of working with Erum both professionally and personally. We've worked a wedding and styled shoot together and she has also covered an event for me. Erum has a very artistic eye and it really translates into her work. Her photographs truly tell a story and speak for themselves. Erum really went above and beyond for the wedding that we worked on together. She was involved in all the details to ensure ideal conditions for the best photos. Erum is the best wedding photographer in DC. She's an awesome person. Before we got married, my fiancee and I met with Erum in Washington DC. She explained every detail to us, online galleries, coordination with my wedding planner, printed albums, and pricing options. We met with four other DC Wedding Photographers and we ended up choosing Erum, because she's a wedding photography magician! as well as an energetic, passionate, and charismatic lady all around. Our package included an engagement session - the photos were AMAZING! We flew her out to NYC, she spent the day with us as made our way through the city - she made this painless and actually enjoyable - she got some great shots of us "being ourselves." Before booking anything else, I just had to make sure that Erum was available to shoot for my sisters wedding! Erum came highly recommended - she had been the photographer at three of my friends' weddings. Erum is the most professional, helpful, pleasant and highly organised photographer I have ever met!! We wanted a creative photographer with and eye for detail. That is why we contacted Erum Rizvi. When speaking to her she seemed kind and proffessional. Who would of known that she is RACIST!! She stated that she would love to shoot and non-American wedding and the wedding date July 26, 2014 was available. Indian Weddings are her specialty but she would love to take a break from the exhausting 3 day or more it takes to shoot and Indian wedding and do our one day wedding. I thought is way very strange when she asked me my nationality. When I stated that we were African American her high energy talkative tone turned into silence. She promised to e-mail us a price list and meet us within a week to discuss the wedding. After 3 days of waiting for her to e-mail me I called her. I asked her that I did not get the price list yet. Her excuse is that she was so busy and she will send it and call me later that night. Days have passed again and of course she never e-mailed us or called back. Sorry to say that I can not change the color of my skin. I know she did not want to shoot our wedding because we are black. Not only is she not proffessional but to discriminate against some people is so wrong ( all she had to do was make up and excuse of why she could not do our wedding)Instead of not calling us back. I first contacted Erum 10 months ago to inquire about her availability for my September 2015 wedding. Erum is a rising star in the photography industry and despite her busy schedule, she made time for an initial phone consultation before I even booked her. During the call, she went out of her way to learn more about me, my fiance, and our vision for the wedding. Within minutes I knew I had to hire her. While South Asian weddings may seem like her niche market, after speaking with her I knew she could capture the beauty of my "fusion" wedding. (I am of South Asian descent and my husband is African American.) On our wedding day, Erum effortlessly built rapport with the venue staff, my wedding coordinator, the videography team, and the DJ/lighting crew to ensure that all my vendors worked in unison to achieve the perfect aesthetic. Most importantly, she put me and my husband at ease with her approach, and was kind and respectful to all our guests. She has already given me a sneak peak of some of the images and I can't wait to see our complete wedding portfolio. We invested a lot of time and effort in counting on Erum as our wedding day photographer, but she ended up disappearing on us, only a couple months before our wedding. Similar to the scenario of an earlier yelp-er. We drove over an hour to meet her at a location convenient for her, we had cancelled other potential photographers/meetings since she verbally agreed to be our wedding photographer, not to mention she spent hours and hours selling herself the day we met with her. Despite the promise of doing an exceptional job, she didn't send us a contract with multiple repeated attempts at contacting her, and had maintained just enough contact to give us hope that she would come through. As it got closer to the wedding, we started to wonder, sent her multiple phone calls, texts, and emails requesting a contract, and finally received an email response stating her email was deactivated. Though, we know she was shooting other engagements/weddings, because she happily advertised on her facebook page throughout this all. If you decide to go with Erum, I would recommend demanding a contract upfront before she decides to flake on you. We hope she treats future clients with more professionalism and respect. read more

We just started the search for a photographer for our daughter's wedding, and came across Erum's website. The photographs in the gallery certainly caught our imagination and we were all excited about the possibilities. We called Erum and had an absolutely delightful conversation. She was fantastic. To start with, she was honest that she was booked for the dates we wanted. But having said that, Erum was very helpful in giving us pointers to what we should be looking for, how we should be planning the small to big things, and took the time to talk us through several issues.
