I wanted to write a review after seeing some of the other ones complaining about bikes being late. Bike demand has been sky-high while bike parts aren't being produced fast enough and no one has been able to get bikes in reliably. It's like this everywhere and Ernie's has no control from when they put an order in. It's sad people are harassing them for stuff they can't fix. They also don't need to offer discounts for police or military. Not everyone does and it has got to be hurting them when they can't sell bikes. If they can't sell bikes they are going to be making much as-is and tacking another discount is just going to run them out of business. We bought my wife's bike here and they were fantastic, got everything ready to go and perfectly sized for her. Will be buying bikes here again! read more

Was very informative and guys took time to teach you and make sure you know what to do in basic situations. Would highly recommend taking the class. Fair price and worth the time. Great place to rent a bike! Looked like a good place to buy and service a bike, too, but I only rented there. It's conveniently located in the middle of a (supposed) 30 mile bike trail along a canal, and the path is level and well groomed. If you go north from the shop, you get to Canal Fulton, a small town with some places to eat, after about 8 miles or so. Service at the shop was great. We were helped by a really personable person despite the shop being very busy on a holiday weekend. We rented a hybrid and a comfort bike, and both were in great condition. Rates were really affordable-- only $5 an hour! I'm not sure we'll ever make it back to Akron, but if we do, we're coming back here! read more

Not knowing much about bike's, I visited Ernies upon the recommendation of two fiends in search of a fitness/casual bike for myself and my girlfriend. I couldn't have been more impressed with the service or selection! They have a ton of bikes, mainly Trek and Specialized, with a wide variety of styles from cruisers to performance. In addition to the wide variety of bikes, they carry about 6 different styles of bike racks. I can't remember the gentleman's name who was working at the time, but he was very informative and helpful. The most important factors for me were that he wasn't pushing us into buying a bike or to purchase the most expensive rack/items, he gave us informed decisions on how we could get more for our money by buying one of the upgraded models than the standard and what we might want based upon our riding level. He also informed us of a sale that Trek was having in April so we could save some additional money on a bike if we wanted to wait until then! I was very impressed. As I live in Akron, there are many bike shops in the area from Eddys to Wheel n Wrench, but I'll always make the 30+ min drive to Ernies due to the great customer service I received. read more

I've come both in small and large parties to Ernie's to canoe and have been extremely pleased on all occasions! The staff is very accommodating and extremely friendly. Their canoe rentals are fairly priced ($10ish per person) and make for a relaxing trip through some beautiful scenery! I've done both their canoe trip lengths and would recommend both. The 6 mile trip took about 2 hours (without any breaks) while the 3 mile took a little under an hour. The river is mostly shallow and very easy to navigate. If you don't mind the hour drive outside of Cleveland, check out Ernie's! And make sure to stop by the cafe next door for a sandwich or some ice cream . read more

This used to be a great shop. No accountability left, three separate occasions they have "forgot" to order things for me. First a rear derailleur, second a push bike for my daughter and lastly a unicycle. Service is incredibly overpriced and not all mechanics are equipped to do repairs. Had to adjust my shifters after pick-up on the last 2 services I had there. This is ashame, I used to enjoy riding with some guys that used to work at the shop and have purchased 6 bikes there over the years. As much as I want them to be great, they have tripped over themselves to prove they don't care anymore. Go buy your cheap towpath bike here, that's all they are worth. Time to sell the shops to someone who still has passion or continue to ruin your once good reputation. Would not go back for any reason at this point! read more

I've been here a couple of times, ended up going here for my day off. They offer bikes for $5/hr and tandem bikes for $10/hr. You can head as north as Cleveland, although I did not try this. Overall Impression: I'd go back and I would encourage others to go back. I recommend this place. read more

I usually do business with the Ernie's shop located in New Philadelphia, OH, but recently I was in Massillon, OH and in need of a bike rack on a Sunday. I was surprised and glad they were open. I had never been to this Ernie's location, so I decided to stop in. I'm glad I did, because they had a HUGE selection and a very friendly and knowledgable staff. They were not pushy, either. I received help when I was ready and they did not pester me beforehand. All the questions I had were answered and when I bought the bike rack, one of their staff showed me how it worked on my vehicle. They are located right on the Ohio-Erie Canal Towpath Trail and have great, close parking. Do yourself a favor and pay 'em a visit! read more

Can't say enough about this place been something special to me since my Grandfather bought me my first real bike here from Ernie and ever since have held on to the memories of this family owned business. Will have to make a return trip here to get a new bike and even have it shipped back to Denver as I have yet to find a place that matches Ernie's service and friendliness. read more

If I could give less than one star I would because of how rude and awful Ernie of Ernie's bike shop was to me. I have bought two bikes from this store and have had many repairs also done here so I have spent plenty of money in this store. I had an older bike that needed the handle bars raised so the piece was $20 and with labor it was almost $60. If that wasn't bad enough, when I saw the bike it had a 5" inch rip in the seat which I know for a fact it was not there when I dropped it off. I brought the bike back in so Ernie could do the right thing by me but that was not the case. He was unbelievably rude and and a downright jerk to me. He accused me of bringing it in this way. I explained to him that I was not pulling anything I just thought he should make it right. He had and employee try on a $8 seat bonnet which he expected me to pay for. I explained to him that I just spent $60 on the center handlebar and I was not putting any more money into this bike. He took the bonnet back, turned around and mumbled "oh well" and walked back into the building. I can not believe a business owner treats people who spends their money in his store like this. I wish I knew this before I bought two bikes there. I will never recommend this awful person to anyone. Shame on you Ernie!! read more

I have bought 2 bikes from this bike shop and had many repairs done. I took my daughter's bike in for their $29.99 tune up which they said includes adjusting the brakes and proper tire inflation. When I got the bike home, the brakes still did not hold and the tires had not been touched. I'm quite sure I paid $30.00 for the bike to just sit in Ernie's shop for 2 weeks. I bought my first real bike here. Ernie's carries quality bicycles and products. Their service is outstanding. The prices are competitive and the employees are informative without being pushy. Employees suggest a bike for your riding style and let you try it. They show customers patience and answer questions clearly. Their bike maintenance classes are terrific. After the seminar, ​significant discounts are given. I will go again next year. I definitely recommend going to Ernie's first for anyone interested in bicycling. read more

I have never written a Yelp review before, but I am signing up for an account just so I can say how upset I am with the way the owner, Ernie Sr. treated me. I brought my bike in for a fix and when I called to ask a simple question about pricing and what was being done I was basically yelled at unexpectedly and made felt like an idiot. When I asked who I was talking to because I wanted to let a manager know when I picked up my bike how rude the person I spoke with was he told me it was Ernie Sr and got really defensive saying he couldn't believe he was "hearing this crap," and mind you I was not anywhere close to angry any time during my few simple questions, in fact I actually burst into tears as soon as I got off the phone, which I have never had an experience that bad with a business before. I will not be supporting Ernie's ever again, which is a shame because I chose them because they are a local family business. Beware! read more

Customer service is not their strong suit and they don't seem to value their repeat customers. My wife and I bought a bike for our daughter as a present and were told we could pick it up in a week or so. It was the bike she wanted, but not the right color. After a few days, we decided to see if we could get the color she originally wanted so my wife called and cancelled before they called to tell us that it was ready. She then stopped in for a refund on our credit card and they refused to credit back the full amount and charged a "Restrocking Fee" of 10%. Are you kidding me? It was a total of 5 days from purchase to cancellation and they had still not called that it was ready. All of the sudden, it is ready and there is a 10% fee. By the way, the 10% restocking fee is listed on the bottom of the receipt, but was never discussed with my wife. Seems a little shady in the way it was presented. When I stopped by to discuss, the owner's wife was very inflexible and while the dollar amount is not material, clearly valued the small dollar amount over a repeat and prior supporting customer. As a result of this, we shopped around and found two stores that were extremely helpful. "Ride On" in Wooster and "Mountain Road Cycles" in Akron. We eventually purchased the bike in the right color and they offered to ship the bike from their store in Cleveland to Akron and when I offered a credit card, they said no worries and just pay when we pick it up. Neither one has a "Restocking Fee" policy. The story here is that you have other options and can deal with business owners that value your business. When your total motivation is money over customer loyalty, then I would recommend spending your dollars elsewhere. read more
