Everything about this place goes well about two times a week when I call in late, close to closing time. They are always friendly, it's my favorite place to eat here in Santa Cruz. I love the pilgrims progress sandwich and all of the soups (except the chicken and rice, because I've never liked rice). I usually get the half sandwich combo because it's still a good size sandwich and the house salad with tuna salad. It's wonderful. I usually end up just eating one or the other for dinner and saving the other for dinner the next night. So the value is excellent. The service at this Erik's location is beyond horrible. Last week they forgot my chips (they seem to consistently mess up orders). I called to request a refund and the young man who answered had the audacity to suggest, "How about store credit instead?" Who in the world offers that in this situation? It was so bizarre. I firmly said no and stated I needed a refund. He took my name and quickly said, "It's done. Have a great day." I found it odd that he didn't take a moment to check anything or confirm any details. When I asked when I'd see the refund, and he said, "by tomorrow" and hung up abruptly. It's been 7 days and still no refund. Although this wasn't a large amount of money, it's the principal - this was not just a mistake, it was a lie. Pretending to process a refund and never actually following through is not only inappropriate but unethical and feels like theft. The only way to make this somewhat right is if the manager took proper action by compensating me and holding this employee accountable. If the manager is reading this, it is the young man who was working last Saturday 12/7 around 12:30pm. read more

Great food and friendly service. They have a parking lot in front with lots of spots. There is lots of seating inside. They also do to go orders and now have an online order and pick up system. They are pretty fast at getting your food out however when we've asked for no sprouts or extra ranch on the side they have gotten the order wrong a couple of times. This ain't it! The sandwich was half full and looked like they just thrown together. For the price there are way better spots in town.

I love their half sandwich cup of soup deal! My favorite is the Reuben with Tomato Basil soup.

I keep hoping for better, but alas, it continues to be disappointing. Number one: STAFF: Stop hiring young cashiers who haven't a clue about customer service. Even if the food is half way decent, these employees are the only staff members that customers directly deal with. It's a real turn off when not only are they are unfriendly, but they're rude. (Five times this year, and interestingly, none of them seems to last long). I know Erik's is struggling, but to pay inexperienced and rude (mostly) teenagers minimum wage to handle customers is counterproductive to the company's longevity. Number Two: FOOD: I Ordered chili, and it was lukewarm and excessively watered down. Supposed to come with bread and/or crackers; neither was provided. Additionally, I ordered a half veggie sandwich soup combo. They charged me nearly a dollar for half a slice of cheese for the half sandwich. (The sandwich didn't come with cheese, but $1 for half a slice of cheese?) Overall, when you order from a restaurant, interaction with staff is very important. Almost more important than food quality or quantity. (Food can be great or mediocre, but what stays with the customer most is how she or he is treated.) I want Erik's to thrive, (have patronized them since the 1970's) but at at least the Capitola location, management really needs to carefully evaluate the recipe for success. read more

Have been to other locations but I was the only person there and they managed to completely screw up my order. I ordered a sandwich and a bag of chips, they charged me for a meal, handed me a drink cup, and included a "mystery soup" in my bag. They didn't even ask what soup I WANTED, I just got a soup. They assured me it was fine and their mistake and all the stuff I hadn't ordered was free (checked my card later, it was not). Then I went to where I was going to eat the sandwich (the beach) I found out it was the wrong sandwich entirely. Not even close, I ordered roast beef on sourdough and they gave me a chicken caesar salad wrap. Anyway, I ordered two salads tonight for delivery , and both had something missing, one the protein , and the other the dressing. I was so bummed because that was my dinner and next days lunch. Well, all good things come to an end. Erik's used to be a well-run restaurant with food quality / prep that has remained consistent for decades unlike other chains. However, as of 2024, this location at least has really nose-dived. Don't know if there's new ownership or what, but my last several orders have all been missing at least half the items I order. When you call the restaurant, they refuse to issue a refund (they offer to take your name down and put it on a post-it note by the register for next time you come in...!??). That's illegal BTW and a violation of their merchant services agreement. Then this last time I ordered I redeemed a 10% off coupon they gave me for screwing up my last order and what'd they do? Yup, left half the items out of this order. That's called irony. Or incompetence. You choose. When I call the restaurant for help, I get two young ladies neither of whom speak English well and all I get is "manager no here". This is completely unacceptable. Whoever is running this location and doing the hiring has completely failed on training staff, ensuring quality and attention to detail. Shameful. AVOID. read more

The decor here is always the greatest with classic pictures and Artistry of local artist and vendor I highly recommend coming here. 12 bucks for a sandwich chips and a drink. There are plenty of cakes sweet items to counter your sandwich. I also love the mason jars that they serve you with. I highly recommend making yourself the Arnold Palmer. Which is lemonade and Tea unsweetened. If you were in Capitola and making a drive I want to spend the day at the beach and have no place to barbecue and you want to pick up sandwiches I highly recommend coming here to pack your lunch for the day. read more

I don't frequent this establishment as a whole. Oh sure, the food is fine but there's no verve here, nothing really stands out from another. I ordered through Yelp and sure enough, they never saw the order until I came to the register. "Oh!," they said, "That's on a different computer and we don't normally check it!" Not a good sign. Great. I love Erik's in Scott's Valley, and this location is even nicer! Finally got around to trying the soups. The clam chowder was excellent, so was the butternut squash! Absolutely highly recommend the "Natural High" or "Abbot's Habit" sandwiches... Hard to decide which is my favorite between the two but they are both heavenly! Before eating at an Erik's, I was always the type of person to take tomatoes & onions off of sandwiches after a bite or so, or just not get it at all, and I don't like mustard either, but something about the produce here maybe, I don't know? I eat the entire sandwich the way it's made (as long as there's no peppers!). Only problem is I need to stop eating here so much, for real, because I'm going to get burnt out on it really soon...
