Late night the close the street to traffic so you can make the stumble to your next bar. A number of the food places are open late (I would seriously suggest Nick's Tomato Pie) and in the summer, the Night's in Syracuse are perfect for out door drinking. If you want a good beer, Blue Tusk is your place. A ton of beer on tap plus outdoor seating. Awful Al's is a cigar bar and one of the few places in Upstate New York that allows indoor smoking. Empire Brewery brews their own and generally has some pretty good music. Syracuse Suds Factory also brews their own, though not quite as good as Empire, however the large space and lack of crowds tends to make this my default starting spot for a night out.

The shops are still a little country flea meets antique fair meets boutique but somehow it all works together. This most recent trip, I saw vintage Vera Bradley bags, sparkly jewels, Pokémon Stickers, stunning blue glassware, punny plant picks, handmade clay ornaments, vases made of milk glass, locally made honey and mustards, ceramic bowls, and a bunch of furniture. They are still operating a cafe at the back of all the shops. The grilled cheese on the menu sounded sooo good. Totally worthy of a visit if you're in the area, go for the shopping, stay for lunch.

This new shop takes eco-friendly to a new level. They are located in the atrium of the commons…read morelevel (bottom level) of Carousel Mall in a oversized kiosk that is lit by the skylights above them. It is, of course, built with all eco-friendly materials. The store carries three brands. The first brand, Sympl Jeans, which includes organic denim and a line of soft and lightweight tees that are made from superfine 100% organic Peruvian cotton. These reasonably priced knits come in several styles and great colors. Sympl Jeans also carries denim for both men and women that are available in a variety of washes and fits. I bought myself a pair of of Simpl jeans that were on promotion for $59.50! They're fantastic feeling, haven't stretched out at all after 3 wears, and fit very nicely. They run big too, so, purchasing a size smaller than I usually wear was nice :) Eco University is the store's second brand, which is a line of young preppy knitwear that includes polos to rugbys. These are also made with 100% organic Peruvian cotton, so they're very soft, have a great fit, and comfortable feel. Lastly is the store's namesake brand Clothing for a Better Earth. This consists of several men's tees that have front pockets with complimenting logos, graphics, and slogans. When I was there, they were BRAND new and were having lots of great promotions. I ended up walking away with a free hat with the Clothing for Better Earth logo on the front. (I will have no problem being a walking billboard for them!). The sales person working when I walked into this unlikely fashion hot spot was extremely friendly, helpful, and informative. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here, recommend it to everyone, and look forward to seeing it grow.

Over 50% of the children's clothes that I looked at had the price portion of the tag ripped off and was marked up. $5 for a toddler size t-shirt, just because it's a specific brand, new would cost $7-8. I found a dress shirt for $4.99 and the cashier said it was a mistake should have been priced $12.99. Really? For a used shirt? Local sports team shirts all priced around $8, when they are $10 new at Walmart. Too much time on your hands to be digging through and repricing every single item. Ridiculous. Nothing "thrifty" about this store. It's a wannabe boutique.
