I usually take my boats to Boat Center. Last week I decided to take it to Erik's Outboard 's because it's closer to my house and they quoted me a cheaper price over the phone for a tuneup on my Yamaha outboard. I dropped it off on Monday, didn't hear from them on Tuesday, Wednesday Ryan calls me and tells me that my engine's to old (2000) and the compression was low, so they declined to work on it. I have never heard that from any mechanic in my life. So I pick it up on Wednesday and there was no charge. Fast forward to that weekend where I drive all the way down to flamingo, put my boat in the water, and as soon as I turn the ignition, the alarm comes on and the boat won't start. Turns out the mechanic forgot to put the kill switch back in and I wasted my Sunday, spent countless money on preparation, gas, tolls etc. not to mention I was embarrassed and inconvenienced my friend who was with me. when I told Ryan about this on Monday, all he could do was apologize. What could've been the start of a friendly business relationship as I have to Boat, has turned in my inability to recommend this business to the many people I know who own boats. While I'm a little mad at myself for not diagnosing the problem on the water, the bottom line is I am not a mechanic and that was not my responsibility to put the kill switch back in. Needless to say I am extremely disappointed And still without a tuneup. read more

I just wasted a week of my time chasing these guys around to sell me an outboard. Ridiculously bad customer service. Had to harass them to get a quote for an outboard (red flag) then finally was able to get them to give me the loan application. Got approved by Yamaha for the loan same day, over a week ago (Tuesday 5/2) and was ghosted ever since. Tony is the person supposedly responsible for Outboard sales. He doesn't return phone calls and straight up lies when he says they're working on it and will have it done by days end. I guess they're making big bucks with other jobs and a 10k Outboard sale isn't worth it to them. I went to Boat Center yesterday and got everything done by this afternoon (thank you Boat Center!) ZERO excuse for this treatment and timeline. Still haven't heard back from Tony since we last spoke 3 days ago. I wouldn't buy a screw from this place. read more

Been bringing my boat here for service/electrical work for about 5-6 years now. Ryan in service is very helpful. Returns calls quickly and tries to get you in and out asap. Parts store has everything you might need for your Yamaha and boat. Prices are pretty good but they won't match if you find a cheaper part else wear. I've had issues with the electrical work they have done but nothing I cant handle. For example, when they installed my new Garmin gps/sounder, they did not put a new water resistant fuse holder or the right amp fuse. Guess no one is perfect but for the most park this is the only place I trust to service my Yamaha. read more

They declined to work on my 2005 F225 because it had a "rough life". It's got 300 hours. I just wanted a 100h service, and the service guy wanted to add on a tank cleaning and conditioning, then clean all the fuel steps and basically add up a shit ton of work I could do on my own. I can't remember the last time I had customer service at this level. From the first call made to the shop inquiring on stock, to the greeting upon entering and finally the completing of the purchase transaction, the staff at Eric's was knowledgable, kind and incredibly helpful. Parking is ample in front of the shop as well as along the street, for those with large rigs. The showroom is clean and well organized. They have a ton of Yamaha parts in stock and they always have Yamilube available, which cannot be said for many of the shops in the area. The guy at the desk treats everyone like a long-time friend, which was very welcoming. The service reps are knowledgable and getting a service quote was a breeze. Overall an excellent experience. These people are crooks of the worse kind!!!! Took my boat for one simple thing and they ended up doing a bunch of things without consulting me. Second time this happened, both times they ran the bill to 1k, I guess that's their quota per boat even if you just took it for a simple thing. Just as an example, the first time for an electrical problem they rebuilt the carburetors that had just been rebuilt and change the water separator that was new!! I took my boat to Eric's with an issue of the 200 Yamaha 4 stroke giving me an alarm when I pulled back on the throttle. I explained in detail what was happening and hoped for a resolution. What I got was the basic "you need an impeller" reasoning that didn't turn out to be the case. I was stuck out in the bay just after taking it out of service at Eric's and thought they'd be able to rectify the problem sooner than me waiting another week for a service appointment. I asked them to place motor on computer to look for faults but they didn't. Good people that have gotten better over the years but not correct diagnosis or listening to customer in my case. read more

They service my engines annually, but during the last two years their service has diminished and they make up engine issues to extend the repair. I realize Eric is growing his business with Contender Boat Sales, but his service department is not forthcoming. I recently caught them in a bold lie and it seems they are willing to commit fraud to generate revenue. Hats off to these guys. My friend and I called in sometime last week around 4 p.m. looking for some emergency parts for our outboard, which of course they had in stock for a very fair price. Rush hour traffic had my friend delayed in getting to the store before they closed at 5, so he called to make sure they were still open and was informed that they would hold the doors open for him.
