This location is old AF and the aesthetic pales in comparison to NY locations, so set your expectations upfront. The staff, however, is very nice. Very mixed demographics and clientele here lol. Saw a little bit of everyone but a surprising number of middle-aged and older folks. Came here for the Aescape massage. Not really worth it unless it's discounted. Anyway, I don't like this nearly as much as other locations or even other gyms in the area like Club Studio. read more

This Equinox location is by far the best location in the DC area. I have never seen it packed which is such a nice luxury. The pool is also very nice especially since few gyms even have a pool let alone a steam room. One of my favorite aspects of this gym compared to others, is it isn't filled with personal trainers hogging up all of the equipment or asking "how many more sets do you got?" People do give this location a bad rap because of the bring your own lock situation but I personally love it. In the locker rooms, they have a leave your lock section where you can have your own locker each time you come visit which is so nice having extra clothes available. I have also dealt with way more issues with gyms having built-in lockers where they can easily get jammed, and you have to call the front desk on the phone. Is this the best Equinox location I have been to? No, but it still super nice. My one complaint is I do wish that the gym had a little bit more space available. At the end of the day, it's still a great gym, and I'll be back many times. read more

It's a basement gym. The free gym in both my apartment and work buildings are nicer and have a better view (but no classes). As for the classes, I liked most of the Pilates and yoga classes. The treadmills are good. Otherwise, the place is a mixed bag. Lifetime is better. The Peloton is better. read more

*Man I wanted to love this place but didn't. *Front door staff is the best! They are helpful and cheerful but have a minimal role. *The personal trainers can be meh. This might be because they bill them out a high rate to the customer but pay them very little. They come and go and need second jobs. *The vibe of the place is very downbeat. Doesn't give off positive energy to help push you through your workout. Oh--and the constant drone of those TVs set to Fox News. Talk about a downer. *It's not social. They try events periodically but they don't think of ways to promote the social side, so it doesn't feel welcoming. *The pool is nice! *The pilates reformers classes cost a lot! Whenever I walk by the reformers they're not being used. Such a waste. *There isn't a recovery area like at Club Studio which has a huge recovery room. *I've thought about the air quality down there in the basement of an office building with no windows and when I asked I didn't find the answers reassuring. Office buildings are already notorious for not letting fresh air in. *You can find similar equipment and better vibes at a much much lower price at the Gold's in Clarendon. (no pool tho!) *You can find what you probably hoped to find at Tyson's Equinox at the Club Studio down the road. It's huge, bright, classes incl in the price, pilates including, pool, recover room. I joined Equinox at this location about a year ago, and have really enjoyed my time as a member here. Every morning, I'm greeted by the staff who always has the most up-beat and welcoming energy. Their initiation fee is $500 alone and there is a one year probationary period, where you will be fined extra if you cancel your membership. The way they treat their employees is deplorable. I always see new faces constantly, meaning they keep losing their employees. They don't even let their employees sit down. It's no wonder they are constantly losing workers. read more

I'm really disappointed to share an unfavorable review of this location. While visiting family in the area for Christmas my partner and I stopped into this location to work out on Christmas Day. My parent is a long time member of equinox and has 8 guest passes. Unfortunately the very abrupt manager wouldn't allow him to use a guest pass for me. She said I could work out for a $75 charge. It was 12:45 pm and the gym closes at 2:09 pm. I said no thanks! They also wouldn't let me go downstairs to fill my water bottle and I had to practically beg to use the bathroom while my partner was working out. The facility is fine, a little small but not very busy. The group fitness instructors and classes are wonderful, I've taken many classes over the course of my 2 year membership. My biggest complaint is a common one with the fitness industry as a whole--which is ultimately cancelling your membership. Canceling was an absolute nightmare with several phone calls with manager Erika, who assured me multiple times that she would cancel my membership, and when I still got charged, she assured me that she would refund the cost. I would not join this club in its current state. -Equinox has a reputation for being the cleanest in the industry. The cleanliness at this club in the last months has been unacceptable. There is mold / mildew growing in the mens shower, the floors look like they are never mopped in the locker room, water fountain spouts have pink build up, dust in almost any area, dumbbell weights are beginning to smell, and the list goes on. -Hours have been reduced due to COVID and there has been a lack of communication if these hours are now permanent. When hours were originally adjusted the only update was via a paper at the front desk. I have credit to use in the shop but literally is closed at all time when I'm in the club. -Maintenance is non-existent in some areas. There are lightbulbs out for months (still out as writing this review), severally worn countertops, rust in the steam room, etc. -Group fitness instructors + trainers are great. I'm writing in this not to just complain or get out of my membership, but because I really want the club to be better. I joined because I wanted a clean, nice gym but in the last months everything has gotten drastically worse. I reached out to Equinox club management and concierge in separate inquiries but have not heard back. Seems like they don't care about the Tyson's location. read more

I've been to a lot of Equinox's and this is easily the worst. They refuse to upgrade the equipment and when something brakes.... You might as well fix it yourself. Top 3 complaints 1. The gym equipment is super old 2. The trainers act like they built the gym and they have no regard for you using the equipment. They hog up lots of different areas to let you know if you aren't paying for their services then go away. 3. The locker room and shower area just continues to get worse and worse. Petty club. I have been a member twice and this second time around they wouldn't cancel my membership. They failed to mention it was a one year agreement when I was signing up. The contract link did not work - so no way to actually view what I signed up for. Steam room was out of order for months, they claim it was one month, but every time I would come (once or twice a week) it was never working. It is WAY overpriced at $2,500 a year. One year contract. The locker room needs a makeover for a so called "luxury" health club. Plenty of gym "dicks" (like who leaves their dirty sweats and gym bags a over the limited bench space while they go shower?) Pool hygiene rules enforced: zero. Sure, the little workout towels are wonderful, but it's ridiculous to pay $700 a month for a membership for a family of four. Halfway through my personal training sessions, they fired my personal trainer for whatever reason, then refused to refund me the remaining sessions (I did about 9 out of 14 sessions). They said that my only option was to work with another trainer which I wasn't willing to do. They called a few weeks later and threatened that I'll lose my remaining PT sessions if I don't pick a trainer to work with for the remainders. When I asked if such a policy actually exists they scrambled to say yes. That's aside from countless annoying things like crappy opening hours, frustrating parking policy, annoying and pushy trainers, beyond bad management, overpriced membership, overpriced PT, and the lack of BB court. Equinox earned one star from me for the indoor pool and amenities. I am livid right now with how they were being so unprofessional handling some customer situations and getting away with it. It is a nice gym, given you are paying much more for it. Recently I have checked my monthly charges and it is way higher than the agreed corporate price. My boyfriend and I heard multiple times of the agreed price during the tour, so we were not just assuming it. When I took this to Equinox they were giving me some PR response about how the price varies per year and I was just unlucky. Well, then why promising the cheaper price to me while charging me higher? Why nickel and dime me while I am already considering joining the club? It was my mistake to not be careful and look at the contract in full detail while I was signing up. Equinox members get 15% off first time purchasing merchandises. They did not put in the discount until I asked. Again with the generic response of "oh usually they put the discount in right away". There are other little things that did not make the experience much better. Now I have no other way to cancel my membership. This is hands down my favorite gym. Im a bit of gym rat so I work out everyday religiously. Ive tried planet fitness, la fitness, golds gym,24 hr fitness and xsport. Here is my pros and cons about this gym: PROS: - peaceful atmosphere - genuinely sweet and kind staff - you don't get hit on by some sleezeball every 5mins - guys don't stare at you when you workout - you can really tell that fitness is a lifestyle from the people there - extremely clean - trainers are so genuine, they dont pretend to help you (unlike planet fitness) - you're surrounded by people who are fit and want to work hard on being healthy. Beautiful, cleaned basement gym with plenty of parking and luxury spa towels and showers. I'm reviewing the class, Muse: A dance fusion of aerobics & weights with non stop movement to slow electronic music. If you're not accustomed to using weights, even light ones, then you will likely find this class to be very challenging. I know I did. 25 mins in and thought my arms would fall off so I did the transitions weightless. You spend a large portion of the class holding either one or two three-pound medicine balls. That said, because the workout is low-impact, I don't find that you need to have particularly good endurance. Not many students took breaks but everyone in this class looked in shape; no one over size 8. And even with the ballet elements, I didn't find that you needed a dancer amount of coordination to learn the routine. I wish she went through the five basic ballet poses and some Pliés but it's a good workout. read more

So as a potential new member I was little disappointed in the actual gym itself. I had been a member of Vida Fitness for a couple of years in DC for $110/mo and so I expected more from Equinox for a $153/mo price point. I workout 5-7 days a week so I want to be comfortable in my workout space everyday and this just was not for me. The entrance is contemporary and modern and the staff is very polite. To the left is a clothing store with some really cute clothes and accessories. There is also a cafe which is great for pre and post-workout and to the right is the membership office areas. Upon walking downstairs where the entire gym sits I found the ceilings to be very low and the cardio machines were bumper to bumper to each other. I do some fairly unique workouts on treadmills and I just could not see myself doing these so close to another person. I also came at peak time around 6:30pm on a Monday and I found myself really feeling claustrophobic. After exploring the weight lifting areas, there seemed to only be 1 of each machine so if you plan on doing supersets, it will be hard to tie up 2 machines to get your workout done. Weight lifting is very important to my workout routine and this just was not going to fit if I was going to feel interrupted or rushed. I decided to take a Vinyasa Yoga class to provide me with some additional options and I really enjoyed the class with Susie Farnick. She was warm and friendly and very hands on with her class which I appreciated. The class was a little long for me at an hour and 15 minutes but I felt stretched out and very relaxed post-class. I would say the barre class that left was very crowded so it appears to be one of the most popular. I also wanted to see what the women's locker room had to offer and this probably did them in for me. The "Kiehl's products" they offer is 1 body lotion in the common areas with Barbasol shaving cream. I saw a mouthwash area but that's the extent of what I saw. Perhaps in the showers they have more to offer but it was very basic. It did not feel luxurious at all. And the bathroom stalls need a serious update. It feels like high school bathroom stalls, a few of the stalls I visited had pee on the seat and by the 4th stall I went into, it had chips on the seat like it had been through battle. The whole luxurious bathroom experience completely fell short. Positives: Saltwater pool Eucalyptus cold wet towels Nice staff Negatives: Expensive monthly membership Cramped cardio areas Not a variety or multiples of machines I really wanted to like this place but I just cannot bring myself to join. So, I decided not to renew my membership to Equinox after my year was up and am updating my original 4-star review to 2 stars. Here's why... One of the main reasons I loved Equinox was the classes, but over the past few months, I feel that the class selection has really decreased, and in addition, two instructors whose classes I took regularly have both left (for various reasons), and I really just wasn't a fan of the new instructors. (Regular gym-goers will agree that an instructor can make or break a class!) I realize that instructors have other jobs and commitments, but when you're paying as much as Equinox charges, I just didn't feel that the value was still there. Out of the 3 classes/week that I took regularly, only one with the instructor that I like still remains, and frankly, that's spinning, which you can find at almost any gym. As much as I loved everything else - the cleanliness, showers, yoga studio - it was ultimately the classes why I joined and why I decided to leave. read more

I don't get why would people write negative reviews . I've been a member for a year and NEVER had any issue with billing, sharing space/equipment, management communication or the space not being clean. Yes, it's above what you normally pay for your gym membership but it's SO WORTH IT. I workout on average 4 times a week. The place became like second home to me and I look forward to my workouts. It's always clean, smells good, people great each other which creates a sense of a community. Always good music, fun classes, super motivating trainers. I was a loyal equinox member in NYC. After referring two of my friends to join me I moved near DC for work. I left Manhattan and the quality of Equinox degraded like a NASDAQ crash during the dot com bubble. Rusted equipment, outdated treadmills, and horrible service, lack of trainers haunt this gym. They do not have wet towels, steam is overheated and the bathroom is unclean, I will withhold the 250 dollar payment until IRS shows up! This is not what I signed up for! read more

Wow, had the worst customer experience at this location. I have had a spinal injury and am looking for a gym with a pool since I have to change my workout routine and can no longer simply use heavy weights. I have used the Equinox in LA several years ago and had a great experience (although it's incredibly crowded there), and wanted to check out the Tysons location. I was looking through the equinox website and saw that you could get guest passes, but the site wasn't working. I called Tysons on 12/16 to inquire about visiting and using the gym with a day pass on Sunday (12/17) , and the rep told me that I could just walk in. I walked in with my brother and we were both taken back with the rude service from the three front desk reps. No greeting or welcome, just blank stares. They didn't say anything to us and simply waited for us to say something to them first. Great welcome desk guys. We told them we were visiting and again, they gave us blank stares as if they didn't understand why we were there. Eventually, the reps took my brothers information down as if they were doing us a favor. PLEASE... if I wasn't serious about touring and joining the gym, I would not have stayed silent about their discourteous behavior. One girl gave us a tour of the gym, which was fine. She seemed really rude at the front desk but was better while she was giving us the tour. When she asked us what we were looking for and what would make us join that day, my bro answered and mentioned that we'd have a better idea of how we feel about the gym after a workout there. I think this is something that any serious prospective member would want to do before signing up-- vibe and gym culture is an important aspect that either encourages or discourages you from going everyday, and if we're paying Equinox prices, we better love the damn gym. After nearly spending 40 min there, the girl tells us that we're not allowed to work out because it is a private gym and only for members. I find this to be an interesting rule, but if it's a rule, what can I say? I only wish she had told us that at the BEGINNING of the tour, especially when it was clear that we were hoping to use the facility because we had mentioned it twice AND also had our gym bags. Honestly, I expect more from Equinox. If I'm going to pay 150+ a month for a membership, I'm not only paying for the gym equipment and space; I'm paying for great, well-trained staff who contribute to a great, overall gym experience. In fact, the website encourages people to come check out the "Equinox experience," but this was 100% the most disappointing gym experience I've ever encountered. Last summer my husband and I were so excited about things starting to get back to normal so we decided to sign up for memberships at equinox. The location was convenient to us, and they were one of the few gyms still offering child care so we went with it despite the steep price tag, small dated facility and several unprofessional hiccups that we had in the initial sign up period. The kids club was something I needed as a stay at home mom with a little one at home, and we mentioned that several times when signing up for our memberships. A few months into our membership the kids club closed. I tried to make it work without by doing virtual personal training, but when my husband finally had to go back into the office I couldn't make it work anymore. I requested to pause my membership, given things had changed and the kids club was no longer available, and I was only allowed to pause for one month because that was their policy. I get times are weird and the kids club needed to close for whatever reason, but they offered no flexibility at all after being members for months and my husband and I both doing regular personal training (which was also a little shaky on my husbands end, with his trainer constantly rescheduled sessions at the last minute.) I was incredibly disappointed with their lack of flexibility, especially knowing the friend that referred me to the gym in the first place had paused her membership several times before, and for longer than a month just because she wanted to try other gyms- the lack of flexibility but also lack of consistency for enforcing "policies" is super annoying... All of that said, I can't say I would recommend the Tyson's corner Equinox. Given their membership rates/facility/lack of flexibility, you can do MUCH better. read more

I was treated very poorly by the front desk person named ACI. I Had a day pass to check out this location and Aci scans the pass very rudely without welcoming or saying hello he touches my phone. I ask if the pass scan went through ok? He says yes. I go in. After I go into the locker room and I come out he's out there looking for me and tells me I can't use the facilities. The day pass was valid but he's on a power trip and cannot let me check the facilities I seriously was about to sign on a year membership But he treated me so poorly and made to look like a peasant. He didn't let me workout or even look at the rest of the place. Didn't even get to see the equipment area. !!! What a waste of drive and getting ready to workout then wasn't allowed to. If this is how ppl are treated when they're trying to impress you to sign up and take your money I can't imagine how the rest will go. I think the staff want to keep the place as low volume as possible so they'd have to do less work but the management need to know this is going on they're literally turning people away that are becoming new members. Because of ACI I didn't get to workout. I didn't get to see the gym. And I didn't sign a year membership. I guess I'll go look into a diff gym. I have been an Equinox member for about 6 months now and I love it! I really like this place because it has top-of-the-line gym equipment, locker rooms are clean and stocked with Kielh's, and they have great gym classes- I am a total fan of Boot Camp (which is no longer offered), yoga, triple threat, and pure strength (Jenn Blackburn is an amazing fitness coach). The staff is super friendly (from the front desk to the personal trainers). Yes, the monthly expense is higher than other gyms in the area, but cheaper than any gym studio nearby, for example orangetheory fitness, pure bare, core power yoga, etc. I was previously a member at Orangetheory fitness which I really enjoyed but it was not helping me with my fitness goals, so that is when i decided to switch over to Equinox. I prefer equinox because not only can I do my own workout but i can take any class that i would like. This is the BEST gym that I have ever been to, hands down. The facility is gorgeous, the fitness instructors are experts, the showers and bathrooms are impeccably clean. I LOVED my free trial here. If only it wasn't so expensive, I would join this gym in a heartbeat! While there, I tried a Running Interval class, Abs class, Bootcamp class, and Vinyasa Yoga class. The instructor for the Running Interval class knew it was my first time, and really focused on pushing me to my limit. I went to her abs class after and that was also really good! It was a really great workout. The Bootcamp class was alright, the instructor was a little too aggressive for my liking. However, he definitely knew what he was talking about and I was so sore the next day! My favorite class was the Vinyasa Yoga class. The yoga studio is absolutely beautiful, with special floors made for yoga. The instructor herself was so relaxing and it was a wonderful environment to be in after a stressful day at work. This is the only yoga studio that I have ever been to where they cover you in a blanket at the end of the class, offer aromatherapy and read meditation. Truly a one of a kind experience! Also, this is the only gym where I have felt comfortable showering. I chose to shower here instead of at home because it was so nice! They have Kiehl's shampoo, conditioner and body wash! Equinox will change your life. Okay...maybe that's an exaggeration, but I've been consistently waking up at 5 AM every single day this week just to attend class (yeah, it's worth it). FYI I've never been a morning person. If you're currently sick of your work out routine and looking for ways to switch it up, I promise these classes won't disappoint. I wanted a variety so I was debating between Equniox and a boutique gym, but I'm totally happy with my decision...and here's why: PROS: - I'm kind of a germaphobe so I hate showering at gyms...I literally tip toe around other gym lock rooms. EQUINOX on the other hand, is sparkling clean. I love showering and getting ready for the day here after my work outs (which is super convenient for work) - People here seem really nice and friendly - Eucalyptus towels. YASSSS - Mats are cleaned for you after fitness classes instead of being half-heartedly wiped down by everyone - It's never crowded...especially at night - Fitness instructors are really motivating and pay attention to each person - Kiehl's shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion. No watered down crap which I've experienced at other gyms. CONS: - The gym is kind of small...I was pretty underwhelmed when I took a tour - You have to get parking validated for the garage very time - There aren't many choices for 6 AM classes so I go with whatever is available for the day (thank God it's not the same type of class) - No lounge area (am I expecting too much? idk) It's only been a week so maybe I'll update this review after some time.
