A nice small-town festival, but light on the strawberries…read more I love little fests like this, particularly if they're food-related. I was hoping for all sorts of different things with strawberries in them: maybe assorted deserts, of course, but also who knows: strawberry chili? Chicken with strawberries? I saw strawberry shortcake, chocolate-dipped berries, pie, strawberry lemonade. Overall, that part was a letdown, but hey, strawberries- any are fine! As a nice little street fair, it was fun. Decent parking, lots of fair food, people-watching opportunities. Plus a car show- AC Cobras- that would have been worth the trip on its own. $10 rides for charity; too short, way fun. I'd go again.

This is a rather small festival. Went with high expectations (30 year old festival this close to…read morecolumbus?) and I guess I was a little underwhelmed. The fair rides were mostly geared towards kids. There's a large food selection, but a distinct lack of strawberries. Most of the booths were cheesy. The entire time we were there (a little over an hour), they were running "toddlers in tiaras" girls across the stage introducing themselves from other small town festivals throughout ohio. What got me was the lack of fresh strawberry options. Driving 40 minutes each way I should have thought that I would be able to find more than a paltry strawberry shortcake made out of frozen strawberry topping you can buy in your neighborhood kroger's frozen dessert aisle. The nice thing is that at least it wasn't overcrowded. It was easy to park, easy to get to (as easy as the 45 minute drive to London is for me), and fairly cheap. I might focus on bigger closer festivals in downtown or inside the loop of Columbus.

Finally got to actually see the festival after 6 years of marching it!! The Jackson Apple Fest…read moreholds a special place in my heart as one of the biggest parades I got to march in middle and high school, and the true appreciation the community has for the bands and other groups that perform. Actually walking through the festival, I have to admit, was a little disappointing. I love fair food as much as the next person, but I was really hoping to see more booths about the community, the apples, and maybe more music considering what an important role the marching bands play in this celebration. I saw only one booth selling apples, out of dozens of booths. I didn't see anything explaining the significance of apples to the festival or Jackson. Most of the booths were the same fair foods, church advertisements, or cheap Ali Express knick knacks sold at a higher price. The rides were squeakier than my hometown county fair's, so you definitely couldn't catch me on them. I definitely didn't hate the festival, but I just wish it had more community and celebration aside from the parade. From the band/marcher side, I was sad to see after several years, they still have not invested in more covers for the wires on the ground. Even as a pedestrian, I was tripping over them, and I remember how dreaded these wires were during parade marching. I really hope they cover these to avoid accidents and just provide easier mobility. The groups that perform deserve that. In my opinion, the parade is what makes this festival. Bands compete for ratings, but they also have fun and celebrate each other. I recommend coming after 7 for the parade. There are lots of floats, lights, and fantastic musicians. That is where I really feel community.

Where are the APPLES?! The Apple Festival has slowly turned into a fair. Good luck finding a candy…read moreapple in that place! Only found 2 places at the entire event that sold candy/caramel apples. What a let down. If someone opened an apple only kiosk they would corner the market. Truly a let down. There's always the pumpkin show which never fails to disappoint.

This is a great small German town Oktoberfest! First off, beer comes in HALF GALLON MILK JUGS! Yes,…read moreI said it. They know how to drink their beer here. Normally there's TV's and a big screen saver u to watch the football games too if you're into that (it's a big Ohio State and Notre Dame fan area). There are 2 long food tents with your normal Oktoberfest faire, and some normal festival food if German style is not your thing. Fyi, they tend to run out of sauerkraut balls pretty early because they're delicious. There's a large artisan area that takes up 2 large tents. There's also some kiddy games here for the younger crowd to play to get little trinkets and prizes. There is a seller from Germany that is always selling hats and the pins and feathers to go with them. It will always be busy, just wait your turn and ask questions. They're super helpful! They'll even measure your head for just the right size hat for you! There's a tent on the other side from the artisan area that has some gambling and adult games if that's your scene; pull tabs, black jack, poke, chuck-a-luck/big 6, mug slide, etc. There's tons of portapots and beer trucks scattered at every end and intersection. There is craft beer, including ciders scattered around, but the main beer ticket buying spot is right in the middle. They take cash or credit! There are bands playing all over the grounds; the gazebo normally has the traditional oompa-pa band, and local favorites who play a variety of music that everyone can dance and sing along to are in 2 tents opposite it. You never hear the bands over each other which is nice. There's plenty of picnic tables throughout the grounds, and they have a great parade Sunday afternoon around 2 that goes down the main Street. So it's definitely a festival for all ages. Just know it normally gets a little crazy later at night with half gallons of beer being passed around. It's definitely worth a drive to check out!

The end of the summer is a perfect time to stock up on beeswax candles for the upcoming cozy, mystical autumn days-- I'm so glad I did that this year! After we shopped, we checked out a mead tasting in the library just off of the main road and had a blast trying all the different flavors. I walked away with a bottle of orange blossom honey raisin mead for myself plus an extra bottle to include in a wedding gift. A new vendor addition was a shaved ice truck that had honey drizzle for all of the shaved ice. Yum! It's, of course, always a little more fun if it's sunny given the theme, but I still had a great time this year too.
