Steve and Sharon are pretty awesome people, and I talked with Steve for more than an hour. He's got a ton of stories and they're amazingly interesting. His barn isn't really enough to show off what he has (his barn is actually his workshop). So after looking around there I and my two travel-mates were led through their house, where they have so much more (including some seriously old and amazing things). In addition to looking through what they have at their home, Steve will look for you if you have something in particular you want. These people are genuine and have their heart and soul in their business, it's endearing and welcoming. If you're around Portland and interested in legit, unique, found-nowhere-else items call them up and arrange a stopoff at their place (until they find a store to display it all, that is). We stumbled upon the China Sea Marine Trading Co., and since we both love random, crazy stores we had to peek inside to see what they had. Its like a crazy antique store that deals solely in marine-related objects, perfect considering its location in a port city. The first moment you walk in, its very overwhelming and feels like a room filled with piles of junk that are randomly placed, but after the initial shock the objects fall into place and you can see the path meandering between the stacks and shelves. Items include clothing, telescopes, ship lamps, ship steering wheels and many other objects related to ships, maps, medals, photos, and art collected by the ships (I mostly saw African art while we were there). Its so much fun to peruse through all the items, there are incredible finds hidden everywhere! Our only problem was the objects we really wanted were *ahem* out of our price range. But this store is definitely a place to check out whenever you are in Portland.

I especially love all the 1960s clothing and kitchen wares and am a collector of clip on earrings and fun costume jewelry. We were very happy to help. I did spend 15 minutes looking through the store and they had a nice mix of stuff, but I didn't find anything I wanted...well other than my 3 books.
