This is a small bar/lounge on the side of the market that is popped up during the day but of course me and my friend are eating near midnight because we are still on Vegas time. This was one of the closest places to us that had an open kitchen. They invited us in for drinks and a great time. I ordered a ginger ale because I wasn't feeling well and my friend ordered some Coke. We took a look a quick look at the menu and my friend decided to order a pizza. She meant to say just cheese but instead order a 4 cheese pizza with no sauce. I took one bite and noticed 1 of the 4 cheeses taste very weird. I then ate only the crust. The best part of this place was the people.They employees were dancing around and having fun. They were really relaxed and just hanging around with the locals. Again the place is a lounge. They had music inside, EDM (which I was very pleased with) and they had girls dancing and some of the employee couldn't help but stare. These girls were in tight small shorts and then the fun began. One employee took the girls attention while the other took a picture of her butt. Usually i would be mad and angry but it was really funny and the guy saw me see him and they showed me the picture, it was blurry and dark but he then proceeded to hit on me and my friend. Ambiance (4/5): Open Baladin looks a lot different than your typical Roman establishment. Bright colors, quirky decor, and a beautiful bar area are some of the highlights here. We sat at a table as we wanted to avoid the bar stools (no back support so I've never been a fan). Service (3/5): Typical Italian service. Not terribly attentive or friendly but gets the job done. We had to track down our waiter once or twice to order a beer and close out but that's standard fare in Europe. Food (3/5): My partner in crime had a burger while I had a sandwich with proscuitto and cheese. Pretty much your typical Italian sandwich. Fresh and adequate. Though a bit overpriced. Drinks (4.5/5): This is the highlight. Open Baladin has a fantastic selection of beers including those that I would qualify outside of your typical run-of-the-mill. They have a Belgian beer section of the menu which is always an indication that a bar takes their beer seriously. And most interestingly, for me, they have grape beer . . . say what?! I had never heard of it either. Beer made with grapes, that's a first. While it's not something I would order often, I very much enjoyed trying something new and unique like this. And here I thought grapes were just used to make wine! If you're looking for a cool spot to grab a brew, with a fantastic beer list, and a different vibe than your typical Italian bar, make sure to check them out!

The back wall housed the bar which had bottles stacked up to the ceilings - this made for a really striking focal point. The color scheme was mostly dark woods and warm colors which fit well for being a beer bar. The menu had a large selection of beer, I decided to go with one of their holiday varieties which was quite good. They had a small food selection, and I specifically noticed they had a variety of homemade chips. These seemed like the ideal snack so I ordered some of their original variety which came with homemade ketchup. These were great - not greasy and the ketchup really made it something special. Service was good, everyone was friendly and overall we had a great experience at Open Baladin. Even if you're not the biggest beer drinker, there's enough variety to find something for most people, and the food shouldn't be overlooked.

At this point, we had been eating lots of pizza, pasta, and sandwiches for the last two weeks, but I guess we just couldn't stop! Being from California, we desperately missed our beloved breweries. Not a one in sight in Italy, until Bir & Fud. Finally! A location, at last, that had a beer other than Peroni and Nastro Azzurra. We marveled at the beer list! Beers of all types from all over Italy, it was truly heaven. We settled on a Saison and an IPA, delicious. Now we get to say we had an IPA brewed in the hills of Milan! Next, we split the cod fritter to start. It was mixed with fresh fish and potato and fried to perfection, yet it remained light and wasn't greasy. We split their pizza that had a lot of roasted chilies, unfortunately I can't remember the name. It was just the right amount of spicy and rich with just slightly toasted mozzarella. I'll let you in on a little secret shame: we were full yet so in love with the atmosphere and food that we ordered another pizza. Yes, another one! We split the classic Margarita pizza. We didn't finish it, though. So I guess we aren't that gluttonous. The pizza wasn't the best, but we honestly went for the atmosphere change and beer. Moral of the story: we didn't want to leave and probably stayed way too long. But, it was the perfect way to round out a once in a life time trip.

When you walk in, you're faced with a long bar and countless taps. It reminded me of places we have at home in Philly. I found it somewhat difficult to order because they have their beers listed in chalk and spread out behind the bar. I looked at the ones closest to me and then double-checked them on Untappd before ordering. For my beer, I had the Vlaam by Birra Mastino. While it wasn't bad, it was high in acidity, which made it hard to finish such a big glass. I would've preferred the option to do a flight here, especially since they offer such a large variety and I'm not the biggest fan of getting drunk. After a bit of time at the bar, my friend and I migrated to a table in the back. It's a nice area -- very open -- so you have some space to enjoy yourself. Since we weren't exceptionally hungry, we ordered a basic pizza and split it. While I didn't find the pizza to be mesmerizing, it was pretty good. Splitting it was perfect. Abundant places in Rome still open in our neighborhood of Trastevere. Let me tell you, this plus, really close to us just a few feet, and when we first walked in, looks questionable, but this hits every part of you and fulfills your late night cravings. I forgot his name, but he is from Bangladesh, speaks English perfect and a a real gentleman and nice guy. Ordered the big burger and completo with a couple of fries. When we brought it back to our apartment, and opened it, we were amazed at the size and quality. It was so delicious and filling. If you're ever in Rome and crave some late night food for a great price, 5.50 for the Big burger, this place is for you. I might go back again tomorrow night! Thank you guys! Ciao
