Loved it! It's a beautiful intimate space and attracts a cool crowd-mix of different ages. Had the spinach fatayer for an app and the pastry was just delicious. Got the cauliflower app with dinner and the spices + light crisp were just right. For dinner, ordered the vegetable plate with falafel on top. Ultimately the falafel was good but not the memory maker (which supported my theory that this resto isn't gonna deliver life changing versions of any staple Lebanese dishes but rather will offer some fun and interesting specialties). Every bite was more delicious than the last and I have absolutely no regrets lol There was one other person in the restaurant when I got there so it wasn't very hard to social distance. However, I chose to sit inside this little nook that's around the corner from the entrance because it had a little more privacy and a beautiful glass door. Best seats in the house! However, the other tables are spaced out pretty well and there was hand sanitizer on each table which i thought was nice. It was a beautiful day and every once in a while I felt a nice little breeze sneak in from the glass door while I sipped on my art basil cocktail. Which if i might add was refreshing, strong, and tasty! Just when I thought it couldn't get any better..my appetizer shows up! The Al-Raheb was to die for!! Epice means 'Spice' in French and so when I came here I was expecting flavors galore, which is exactly what I got here. Although not knowing what exactly Lebanese cuisine is, I pictured light/not heavy Mediterranean-style food. Although the names of the dishes may be hard to pronounce and unrecognizable the fresh ingredients are all things that I look for in a good meal. If you find yourself in the hip and trendy neighborhood of 12 South this is a great stop to make! My friend and I had reservations for a Thursday night and it was pretty busy for a weekday evening. We were about 15-20 minutes early for our reservation but we were seated right away. The first thing I noticed about this restaurant is that it is very simple and there is not much in the way of decor. However, it has a modern feel and the ambiance is nice. Now on to the food and drink... Cocktail: Hayatee ($10): Bourbon, mulberry, mint, lemon and bitters. I'm not usually a bourbon gal but all the ingredients sounded so good I couldn't pass it up. You can taste the bourbon but it is not overwhelming and the other flavors really balance it out. I would order again. Appetizer: Hummos ($8): Pureed chickpeas and tahini. If you are like me, you'll think why order something at a restaurant that I can get at a grocery store. However, the waiter said "this is the best hummus in the state of Tennessee" so naturally I was intrigued and had to go with this recommendation. The homemade pita chips are crispy, seasoned well and have just a slight sweet hint. It is served with triangles of pita bread as well which also goes great. I would order this again as it definitely was some of the best hummus I've had! Entree: Samak ($26): Spiced fish filet served over grilled vegetables and pilaf. All of the grilled entrees come with a "peasant salad" as well. This salad was light and nice (can't quite understand why some Yelp reviews have raved about it, but it is good). The Samak was a great choice for an entree. I don't usually order fish at restaurants but this was light and wonderful. They offered this dish with either cod or salmon and I got it with the cod and I'm so glad that I did. The cod was flaky and perfectly cooked. I boxed up half of this dish not because I couldn't eat it all but simply because I wanted to savor the flavor for later!! Service was great and our server was very attentive. Overall, a great experience and I would come back. In my opinion, not quite a 5 star experience as I wouldn't necessarily crave anything that I got or be rushing to come back. However, still a great and very solid place and I could see it being consistently popular in Nashville. Well done, Epice! read more

The inside is very hard surfaced, so it can get noisy, but the large patio offers a delightful alternative. We started with hummus, which was served with both plain pitas and some brilliantly seasoned fried pitas. Then we shared two entrees: Sayeda is seasoned fish. The night we were there it was a delicate barramundi. The accompanying rice and grilled zucchini were just okay. The pistachio crusted rack of lamb was superb: perfecly cooked and seasoned, and accompanied by a delicious black been and rice mixture. I was really excited to try this place out, as Mediterranean cuisine is one of my favorites. Even better, they seemed to have a cocktail bar that is on par with their caliber of cuisine, so I was doubly excited. I should have made reservations for the Friday evening I went but was not able to commit to a set time. I ended up walking in around 7:15. My interaction with the host was a little off putting. I don't want to decimate him on a public forum, but he gave off an air of pretentiousness and was a bit abrasive which rubbed me the wrong way. We put our name down and was told it would be a 20 minute wait. I wish we could have sat at the bar sipping cocktails while we waited, but they seat patrons their for dinner. After wandering outside for a little over 30 minutes we decide to walk back in to follow up. We didn't have to say a thing, and the host grabs menus and seats us right away. Makes me wonder if we were ever going to be contacted or if we caught him right at the time he was going to call us? My mood and experience shifted as soon as we interacted with our server Aaron. He was so amiable and a pleasant change from what felt like a stifling first impression. We started off with cocktails, my husband a gin negroni and myself the "Verano" which was a mezcal based cocktail. It was superb. For an appetizer, we went for the basic but classic hummus. In all honesty, it wasn't out of the ordinary, but it was good. I haven't really had bad hummus. For our meals, I ordered the ever popular Samak, which came with a choice of seared ahi tuna or sushi grade salmon. I opted for ahi tuna. It was a great dish. The thin slices of lemon were one of my favorite additions to the dish. My husband ordered the Fassoulya (lamb shank), and as I would expect, it fell off the bone. It was a very hearty dish and was accompanied with stewed white beans. We do not normally do desserts, but the rice pudding with orange blossom honey caught our eye. Absolutely spectacular! Wine list is incredible, food divine, and service top quality. I have lived in Nashville for 8 years, and have always wanted to come. My main reason is that I avoid 12 south at all costs, but was in the area and decided to stop in. The olives and hummus are some of the most authentic I've had in the city. I got the Lahmeh and my wife got the Sayadeya, both were really good although I liked mine the best. Some unique food in Nashville. Stopped here with my family on the way through Nashville. If you are looking for traditional Nashville food then this isn't your place. However; it is really good if you are looking for something different. My wife and I really enjoyed the food. The patio is a great place to eat and hang out for drinks. The service was exceptional. Healthy yet satisfying meal? I'm in. The ambiance was nice and the surroundings are slick. I enjoyed the lentil soup, with bits of chard and a lemon zing. It was presented beautifully, with a lemon slice on top and small pink salt on top of the lemon. Then I had the labneh, which has soft cheese, olives, and tomatoes (see photos). Something on the plate spread and made a couple pieces of pita slightly soggy, but otherwise it was delicious. The cilantro potatoes on the side had a great mix of seasoning and light oil. The fresh greens salad was refreshing and I could eat a whole plate of it if given the opportunity. Park in the street or luck upon one of the side spots. We came right at 12 on a Friday and were seated almost immediately. It took a little while to get drinks and orders, but once we did, the food arrived pretty quickly. Prices are reasonable. Wow. I am extremely pleased with Epice and the fact that they have been open 3 weeks while providing an almost flawless first meal for myself and companion. Impressed. We had to start with the hummus and Labneh, a soft cheese spread/dip with cucumber and olives. Both were outstanding. I usually go for hummus but must admit I liked the cheese slightly better. We decided to go big and ordered the Lahmeh entree, which was pistachio encrusted rack of lamb with a lentil side dish and some kind of heavenly crumble on top... WOW. It was epic. I ordered the Mujadara, lentils and rice pilaf with a side of these insanely amazing potato wedges and vegetables. Not to mention the presentation was outstanding. Both entrees came with the peasant salad, and I LOVED it. It was light but flavorful at the same time. That can be extremely tough to do, but they nailed it! I'd say that was theme of the meal, tons of spices and flavors that melded extremely well and created a unique flavor. WOW. I was blown away. Despite having to box up leftovers, we had a sweet craving and ordered the pots de crème. It was light but still delicious and came with a very unique chocolate chip cookie sort of thing. It was heavenly. The service was top-notch, and we were checked on multiple times and were never without a full glass in front of us or with empty plates wasting space. A plus! I had a really quick 48 hours in Nashville and dinner at Epice was THE highlight. We had a really lovely server and she helped tie break between dishes because we wanted to order everything. We started with the hummus, cauliflower, zaatar bread and then shared the zaatar roasted chicken and fish. We came with a vegan and a vegetarian and there were loads of flavorful options for them. I only regret not trying the fattoush salad. We left feeling like we had a light satisfying meal, not too rich or heavy. I am admittedly a huge fan of Lebanese food and have had it all over the world. My two favorite Lebanese restaurants (outside of the Middle East) are now in Nashville and in Copenhagen.
