In addition to i9 Sports, Police Activities League, and many other groups offering basketball play during a specified season, there were also weekly basketball clinics where we could just drop in. One such clinic is run by 808 Basketball Club held at Roosevelt High School gym on Sundays. The year round clinic teaches fundamentals and is for boys and girls from preschool through high school. The participation fee is $8, but discounted to $5 if you purchase and wear an 808 Basketball Club t-shirt. Each player needs to bring a basketball. I could tell my son was nervous, but he did his best to follow the coaches and other players. Afterwards, he told me he really liked it and wanted to return so thank you to 808 Basketball Club!

The instructors taught a variety of moves, the kids don't get bored. The instructors are helpful and everyone who attends is encouraging. Kids would demo moves and everyone would cheer them on after their demo! I liked being able to sit and watch and get some good pics in! I like how they group the kids by age and how the kids get some free time to shoot hoops. For $8 and an hour and a half you really can't go wrong! Bring money for ono snacks after!

I signed my son up for one class for fielding workout. I went online to their website where there…read moreare all the classes with specific time slots. They only allow a certain number of students, so when that is filled they will close the class. You pay online and show up for your class. Parking is tricky since it is a small parking lot. There are a few customer stalls, but it is limited. When facing the warehouse it is in the far right inside corner. You must walk upstairs to the second floor (no elevator). There is a small waiting area for parents and the rest of the warehouse has Astro Turf and netting for practice. There's no check in desk, so you just come during your time and go see the coach. My son was having a bad day, so he missed the first 20 minutes of class. However, once he went and tried it, he ended up having a lot of fun. We have not had the opportunity to go back yet due to a busy winter season, but I am hoping to put him in some private lessons.

It's a dog eat dog lot at the Honolulu location. Friendly good morning when I came in, and checked in with my phone number since I have a membership. It's smaller than Honolulu but they use the space effectively. After I got off the stairmill, I walked around to look at the equipment. He: Hey Mike Me: Yes. He: Your membership only gives you access to the location you signed up at. Me: Oh, I didn't know that. I signed up online. He: But you are good to work out here today. You just might want to look over your membership. I think there's a level that gives you access to all. Me: Thanks! Jason was great! Polite and courteous and made me feel welcomed even though I didn't read the fine print...LOL! I would definitely be back if I change to the next level of membership. Again, it has a great layout!

A Truly Special Part of UFC GYM Kailua…read more I just wanted to take a moment to recognize Kavika, who works in the childcare at UFC GYM Kailua. This isn't about one specific interaction...it's about the way Kavika consistently shows up for the kids. Every time we come to the gym, he is so loving, caring, patient, and genuinely playful with them. He makes the childcare feel like a place where my kids are not just being watched, but are actually cared for and valued. My kids get excited to go to the gym because they get to see Kavika. They talk about him all the time! As a parent, there is no better feeling than knowing your children are with someone who genuinely enjoys being around them and makes them feel safe, happy, and welcomed. Kavika deserves to be recognized for the impact he has. The consistency, kindness, and positive energy he brings to the childcare absolutely does not go unnoticed. Employees like him are incredibly valuable, and I truly hope UFC GYM recognizes what a special person they have in him. I hope and pray they are able to keep Kavika around for a very long time, because people like him are hard to find. This is a very relaxing members only club on the Windward side of Oahu. They have youth sailing…read moreclasses and many yacht regattas throughout the year, including el toro and laser races around that island at the beginning of the Gilligans Island tv show. My dad (the legendary) Hawaii yacht racer Les Vasconcellos Jr has raced it many times (and i've joined him a couple times on more casual races. The club is very family oriented and they have many holiday parties all year long. The dining room is amazing and they also have a great walk up snack bar. I'm 51 now but i grew up here (and a few other other clubs around the island) and when I go back like I just did, old timers remember me even though i'm not the little kid they used to throw up in the air as a baby. Btw, if you need a boat bottom repair or cleaning, give my dad Les a call!!
