I made an appointment online, which I highly recommend utilizing the online booking option! I called around multiple places for about five days I couldn't get in anywhere. The majority of the salons didn't even answer the phone and the ones that did were booked out for over a week. The fact that they offer the online booking option made it extremely convenient and solved my issue of getting an appointment. I needed to get in to fix a cut that was done poorly by another stylist out of state where there was no framing done, and it was blocky and chopped looking. Taryn has a very calm relaxing, positive personality and enjoyable to converse with. Taryn gives a great shampoo and head massage. She corrected the issues left from the previous haircut with ease! Booked myself a partial highlight & cut to pamper myself for my birthday. I've never colored my hair before so I just wanted something subtle to just brighten it up. Shaylee was my stylist- and let me tell you- she has great customer service and easy to talk to. She took the time to explain things if I had questions (since I'm new to this coloring business). My color- turned out perfectly. I am so happy with everything she did with that. It ended up being a complete highlight vs a partial- but it looked fantastic. My cut unfortunately is up there in the top 3 of worst haircuts I've ever had. We were cutting off quite a bit of length (6 in). She cut the length initially before starting the highlight process. The hair wash and scalp massage were awesome- but after we washed the hair, it all went south. You know when you've got your hair wrapped in a towel, you take it off and let it fall so now the hair is just laying there every which way? THAT is how she started cutting it. Most hairstylists I know find where you part your hair normally- and then begin cutting. I actually had to stop her and part my hair for her. Then she cut off another 2-3 inches off of the length making it far shorter than I wanted. The layers are a complete mess: choppy and don't blend at all. 1 side was an inch and a half longer than the other. Overall, I like Shaylee as a person. I love the color. Absolutely hate the cut. Unsure if I'll go back there for a different stylist or just find someone else on island. read more

When i went the lady wasnt friendly at all and when i said that i didnt wanted to cut my hair she said that i was scheduled a hair cut and pretty much i had to pay "next time" ,i still was charge for it without telling me and my hair was so ugly! Booked an appointment with Taryn for hair color. Just a little nervous when I walked in and didn't know what to expect. Taryn greeted me with a sweet smile. Right off the bat, i know this experience is going to be amazing. Taryn was absolutely amazing! I told her what I wanted and she exceeded my expectation. My brother went to this establishment for a little trim half inch maybe and they took of at least two inches. His hair was like a beautiful lion mane with blonding tips and now his hair is ruined it will take months even years to get that hair back to its lion mane. He did the exact opposite to his hair. I just got married in Kauai a few weeks ago and found Epic Hair Boutique while doing research online. With further research I found Crystal. She's awesome! I love what she did to my hair... she totally understood what I wanted, and between the trial run and the day of my wedding she came up with the perfect style. The intricate details were a bit covered up by my haku lei, but my hair looked exactly how I wanted it to look. I'm including photos before I put on the lei, and then after: how perfectly the lei sat on top of the style. My sister and my 9 year-old niece also had their hair done by another stylist and they both looked amazing. Not to mention the laid back atmosphere and overall good vibes of the salon. Curly whirly anyone? You'll love this place. I've got my fair share of curly hair, and Crystal is fantastic. She's super sweet, and makes cutting curls look easy. I've been here twice now, and both times I've left extremely stoked. Everyone is nice and the atmosphere is laid back. If you're trying to find the place: It's just across the street from the Kauai Beach House Hostel. You'll probably see an ambulance parked in a little 4-space parking lot... just keep going down the driveway to the back, and you'll see the boutique. There's lots of parking in back. Enjoy! Moving to Kauai 4 years ago, I was worried about finding a new hairdresser to do blonde highlights. I found Crystal, and I couldn't be happier! She is amazing with color and is very talented at cutting hair as well. Can't recommend her more highly! I have other friends I have sent to Crystal- everyone loves her! Had a lot go on here from cancellations to the waxer Cindy scaring my daughter out of shaving her legs telling "never shave" to just to turn around and say "we don't do any waxing for under 16 years of age". Cindy asked my daughter how old she was while I was getting my brows done right in front of me and with my daughter at 13 years old, if I want to have her legs and brows waxed, it's my business. She also talked badly on Vietnamese waxers at the nail salons saying they don't care what you look like, which is whatever but if you are gonna talk bad on someone, perhaps try to conduct yourself better. Cindy also burned my face twice with products I asked her not to use since after all I know my body better than she does and explained it would happen if she used it! Also, be aware, if you fill out their form on allergies etc... just know they do NOT read it and will pretty much ignore what it says if they do read it. Full on disappointing and for those prices they should really get it together. read more

Got a cut & color- ruined my hair!!! Never going back and want a refund. Went to Epic and originally requested a certain lady for my cut & color because I knew she was fantastic and had a great experience with her last time, but she was unavailable then. Decided to take my chances and still book my appointment with Epic and shouldn't have ever wasted my time or money. Although the staff is always friendly, this particular hair dresser I got was just not experienced and did not understand at all what I wanted. She had to ask another hair dresser what to do and I could tell she still wasn't confident in it but gave her the benefit of the doubt because I *had* faith in Epic's artists. Not only did it take an insanely long amount of time, it was absolutely NOTHING like the multiple photos I showed her or what I had described. Horrible streaks of weird blonde/orange/light brown when I asked for a natural, seamless, beachy balayage. The lights in the room made it look somewhat okay and I figured that was all she could lift at the moment so I asked her if I can schedule another appointment to finish and fix it up- she said she could tone in. TONE. When it looked nothing like it was supposed to- she apparently thought it did! It wasn't until I paid $180, went home and looked at it in the sunlight that I got to see how horrible it actually looked. I could only compare it to as if I went in and asked to look like Halloween in the flesh. I had to beg my private hair dresser (who is fully booked and had to open her doors on her day off) to fix me and spent even more money and time. Shouldn't have let this fly and wish I got a refund but I didn't ever want to go back into that salon. The lady was sweet, I'll give her that, but honey, if you're not comfortable doing balayage- DON'T DO IT and pass that client onto your co-worker who is. If she would have told me she wasn't experienced and/or comfortable, I wouldn't have gone through with it, because hair is expensive and delicate, and when you sit in that chair you are putting your TRUST into that person. Can't tell you not to go to them for balayage because I've seen some of the other girls work and they seem to do a great job, just pray you don't get who I did. read more

My hair feels fabulous every time. I get asked if I've had the Brazilian Blow out...I say nope...just a regular haircut at Epic;) Heidi is my hair stylist and she also does my boyfriends hair. I'm surprised I'm only the second person reviewing epic. This place holds true to their name. They are epic! I love everything about this place... Except things are a bit spendy but considering your getting quality, its worth it. I've spent more money at macys salon and they can't even wax my eyebrows the way I tell them to. Here's a story. A few months back I decided I'm going to go light brown/ blonde. Since I didn't have money to blow I went and got box dyes. 6 rounds later my hair was bright orange/ fried and smelt like I had just been struck by lightening. I called my friend who is an esthetician and she recommended I go to Darci at epic. Well Darci was busy, actually they were all super busy. I walked in with a shamed face and a hat on my head and I was immediately greeted with friendly smiles and warm welcomes even though they were clearly slammed. Mind you, I don't know them personally. I'm not a close friend writing a review I'm more of a friend of a friend of the owner so I didn't get "special" treatment because of it. So when I showed one of the hair stylist what I had done to myself they got me in the chair within 15 min! I had never used aveda hair or dye products before and it was a truly awesome experience. No harsh chemicals no awful smell. The dye smelt good actually. Because I had made my hair from black to bright orange and the damage was bad I decided not to bleach any further. Instead I let her pick out a really nice brown. Think allesandra ambrosio brown (victorias secret) I was stoked not only did she give me a color I didn't even know I wanted she also got all the orange out and my hair felt not as good as before I bleached it but a lot better than I had felt after. I have tried to get a hair cut but they are too busy for me and I'm a spontaneous person that wants things now. Therefor I do get my hair cut at supercuts without a problem (my hair is easy straight and simple. Not reccomended for rebellious hair) but I'm thinking of dying my hair again and I think epic hair boutique is worth the wait. read more
