What a sweet little shop. Came in around 5:15 (they close at 6 which is lucky for us 9-5ers) and was. Immediately greeted despite the owner talking to others. He finished up with the other customers and promptly made me feel welcome. I proceeded to explain some issues I had with my bike cables and he let me know they were twisted (hand to forehead). He explained this to me without making me feel silly or dumb for my mistake. He then fixed the cables and added air to my tires. He proceeded to tell me the condition my bike was in through casual no pressure conversation. He stated it was good for now but would need work eventually. I loved how knowledgeable he was and I could tell he wasn't trying to sell me anything. Unnecessary. I then inquired about a replacement tube (he just ordered them so I'll have to come back soon) and a bike bag. I settled on a nice bike bag for under the seat. Pricey but handy and just what I needed. It was $25 which is standard for this sort of thing- I just prefer used things usually so full price scares me. Ha. Honestly it felt good to support an authentically kind local business even if it was just a little. He was willing to help at no cost and that goes a long way. I'll certainly be back soon read more

Came in with an older mountain bike and they happily fixed my issue with eager excitement /happiness in their eyes that someone was still riding an old rigid 80s beast. Gave me suggestions on where to check out for riding, very nice folks here who ride bikes and can help you out with a smile. read more

Friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating with a large selection of bikes and gear. I highly recommend this nice shop in the cool little town of Black Mountain, away from the chaos of Asheville. read more

Epic Cycles is not epic, nor do they sell epic merch, they do offer a wide variety of stuff and a friendly atmosphere. They do not, however, encompass generations, futile quests of lives lost and longed for. If you're in the area, stop in, they appear to have decent prices on bikes read more

Watch out, sales person and owner tried to shame me for not buying a used bike after they freely offered and proceeded to tune up the brakes on it. What kind of manipulative sales tactic is that? read more

Had a great experience here buying my latest bike, a Kona Big Honzo. There are lots of bike shops in the area, but Alan makes sure you feel respected and heard. (I'm saying this as a woman customer). Also, it was a really fun, laid back, and friendly environment. I noticed that not one person wasn't greeted and attended to, from little to big purchase. Best of all, I feel that I can trust this shop to continue to meet my needs during the duration of the ownership of my bike. Just felt that they really cared about getting me what I needed and were committed to making sure that if what I bought wasn't what I needed that they would continue to help me find the right fit. But no need, I love my bike even more than I thought I would. Thanks and good job guys! read more

I went to mountain bike on a trail near black mountain and soon after I started riding my derailleur broke and so i walked back to my car. I looked up the closest bike shop near me which happened to be Epic Cycles. I walked into the shop with my bike and there was only one employee working because the other two were out due to medical situations. He had many bikes he was working on but stopped to help me. He quickly found the problem and even found a used piece to save me some money. He threw it all together and even gave me a quick tune up. I was able to drive right back to the trail head and have no problems at all during the 10 mile ride. I was beyond impressed with his attitude and his knowledge. I would 10/10 recommend this shop. I live in Asheville but would come back to black mountain if I needed any work or gear. Thanks Epic Cycles! read more

Stopped in today because I needed my brake pads changed. Half way through my ride my rear pads went metal to metal and I wanted to ride the next day. The "Regular" mechanic wasn't in the shop but the fella doing routine maintenance on the bike was there. He hadn't changed many pads like mine but decided to give it a try. He did a great job and got me back on my bike. Great "can do" attitude and very friendly staff! read more

I wish there was a way I could add a couple of extra stars. Absolutely the very best customer service I have ever received. Had the bike repaired and safety checked. In and out in 2 hours. Very reasonable prices with first quality work. The staff answered my questions and unloaded and reloaded the bike. I would highly recommend this shop for all your bicycle needs. read more

This is "the place" for the cycle enthusiasts and bike afficionados. Josh helped me out with 2 bikes and had them ready to go in no time. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and hardworking folks --- they will make you happy! read more

Very nice local bike shop in the sometimes-sleepy little town of Black Mountain. Alan H. and his staff are top-notch and ultra-responsive to your biking needs. They will work with you to get (or build) the bike you really want... Only downside I've noticed is that they're sometimes low on in-store stock of certain bikes -- e.g., sometimes "still waiting for Jamis to deliver our new shipment"... But their prices and service are definitely a notch above the bigger bike stores in the greater Asheville area! read more
