I'm adding an update since it's been 4 years since my last review of this park, but please also see…read moremy 2 earlier reviews. They have completely rebuilt the fire tower adding an accessible ramp. While we are able to climb stairs, we enjoyed the ramp a great deal. I'm not a huge fan of open stairs and found this wide ramp that is intended for both wheelchair users and walkers to be a very pleasant way to reach the viewing platform and return to ground level. The view from the top is amazing on a clear day. We also walked part of the sunset bike trail as an out and back which was lovely. We started at the beach, headed toward the lighthouse and continued on to the bluffs/cliffs before turning around. It was about 6 miles round trip and had lots of wildflowers and beaches along the way. This is a great trail for anyone who doesn't want to navigate a lot of tree roots or rocks. Other updates: The lighthouse is being refurbished and is scheduled to reopen later in June 2026. There are now food trucks near the beach if you don't feel like bringing a picnic lunch!

To access the park, you have to pay a vehicle admission pass at the visitor center. Daily pass for out-of-state plates is $16. The rates are different for Wisconsin plates and senior citizens. 12-month pass is available as well. The small gift shop in the visitor center has magnets, stickers, paper weights, shirts, etc. There are also comfort rooms inside. It was raining when we visited. The rain stopped for a bit and we were able to see Eagle Bluff Lighthouse. We weren't able to go in the lighthouse because it was still early and not yet open. It was okay from the outside. We also went to see the Eagle Tower. Since it was raining and dark clouds were all over, we did not see the nice view that this spot is known for.

I was in Door County for a wedding one weekend and decided to do something fun, other than the…read morewedding. I looked for information about kayaking, and came up with a few places including kayaking tours offered by Bay Shore Outdoor Store. They had quite the selection of tours, so I went with one that I could do by myself (for some reason, none of my friends wanted to go on an 8 am tour on a Saturday. I wonder why!) Sure enough, the day I was supposed to go on the tour, it was raining. So they cancelled the tour, but tried to reschedule it. I wanted to go the next morning at 8 am, which apparently was even less popular than the Saturday 8 am tour and no one else had booked a spot on that one. Finally, I was able to make it to the 1 pm tour, and by this time I was almost not interested, but when I went there and met our guide, I got all sorts of energetic about it. KC (Casey? I don't know how to spell his name) was one of the most wonderful guides I have encountered, and I have met my share of guides and "teachers." He was very good at going over the basics and necessary techniques. During the tour, he was very good at pointing out interesting points and kept on giving us pointers. He even slowed down and came back to my friend (it was easier to convince her to go on a 1 pm tour) and me to politely tell us to speed things up to catch up with the rest of the group. Unfortunately, the water was too choppy, and we couldn't go out into the lake. But we did get a solid 3.5 hours of kayaking in, and it was wonderful. If I ever find myself in Door County again, I am definitely going to go on another tour with this group.

I left it on the beach and went out to a concert, forgetting to bring it up to the camp for pick up. When I called them to explain and apologize, they were like, "OK!" Very cheerful and chill. Just super nice people, really nice equipment too. We had a fabulous day paddling the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan! All my cousins tried paddling, and I made a little cairn for everyone who gave it a go. #balance

Glassware, plates and pretty settings are provided. Go to the stores and indulge in local produce, coffee, honey, cheese, butter, pastry, beer, wine... Anne at the desk was sweet, thoughtful and so helpful! When you stay here you are given a loaf of fresh made bread, a jar of delicious and novel preserves (I selected a savory sweet potato butter but there were many more options!) The beds are soft, warm and comfortable. You can easily, comfortably have six adults sleeping blissfully. There is a fireplace, a charming Christmas tree, painterly views in every direction and stargazing at night. Television for those who don't want go out or hike and explore. Cozy furniture for reading. Lots of open space for outdoorsy play. Our beagle was lovingly welcomed. He was so happy to romp the trails and be welcomed in local places with treats! My one and only suggestion should you visit in the winter is to bring a hair dryer. I wish one was stocked here but don't forget to bring your own. It is cold outside!
